She gave it a try and was amazed. Another unit sold
Black & Decker has come through again with this tool. We live in the mountains so the ground is rocky and hard. Not a problem for this unit. I did a spectacular job for its size and battery operation. I had a friend stop by yesterday to take a look at it after I told her how well it worked. She gave it a try and was amazed. Another unit sold.

Great small cultivator
This is one of my most used planting flower tools. It breaks up clumps of soil for planting and keeps weeds down between the flowers. It is not a rototiller, so don't expect to use it as one. I gave one to one of my sons and one of my daughters and they love them. My son uses his in his vege garden to break up the soil that he dug up with a shovel. This one is a replacement for an 18 volt one that got destroyed in a garage fire. That one was years old and still working well, so I expect many years from this one as well.

Great for gardens
This has been one of the best garden tools I have purchased in years. It is comparatively lightweight for me to handle easily (I am 66 years old). I have just used it this past two weeks to prepare several fall planting beds and if has preformed wonderfully. I bought an extra battery and while I can get a LOT of work done with one charge, the extra battery has kept me going till each job is done. Really helpful around the yard. Has never once stopped or become wrapped up in roots. Cleans pretty easily with the hose washing the tines.

Breaks up big clods of dirt
I'm a fan of the no-till/deep mulch gardening method. However, I needed something to help me prepare garden beds from scratch (read: lawn) in compacted, unworked ground. Enter this tool. This is a cultivator, not a tiller. As such, it works on prepared soil, breaking up the larger pieces. It won't really work on previously-unworked soil, so I had to dig first and then run this cultivator over the area. If you don't want to go through cutting sod and digging, and you want to till deep, get a hefty tiller to do the job. Here's how I used it. First, I removed the grass with a hoe (a sod cutter would have been better); next I used a regular shovel to dig and turn over the dirt, leaving large clumps; and finally, I used this cultivator to break down the clumps and leave a light, fluffy, fine layer of soil on top. It worked fantastic for that. I wouldn't use this to turn over the soil repeatedly, but it worked just fine for the initial bed preparation. It was easy to hold and to adjust the length of the tool. There's a safety button you have to hold in for it to turn on, so you're unlikely to turn it on by accident. Noise level wasn't bad--my B&W battery weedeater is much louder than this cultivator. Assembly was a snap (sorry for the pun). A tip--make sure that you stop every few minutes to clear out the tines. Clay and roots can get compacted inside them and prevent them from working as well. Note that the tines don't rotate 360 degrees--they move back and forth. Another tip--don't forget to always top off the charge on your battery. If you leave a B&D battery with less than full charge, it drastically reduces the lifespan of the battery. Happy gardening!

did a good job in my garden
Bought this when I had an injured foot and couldn't handle the bigger Mantis tiller. Didn't have high hopes for a good tilling job. Our soil in the garden is loose from previous tilling and has compost worked into it, so when I attacked it with this cultivator I was surprised how well it turned over the soil. What I really liked about it is that it would literally pull the weeds up so I could rake them out of the garden area. The tiller just chopped them up and buried them in the tilled dirt. End result is that I had fewer weeds in my garden this season. Added bonus, light and easy to use so no sore muscles. This is now my go-to garden tiller. Oh, and batteries. I have a B&D weedeater and drill that use the same battery, so I have 4 batteries. It lasted about 30 minutes while I was cultivating.

Used, very good was actually new, re-packaged
I bought this used from amazon warehouse. It was like new. As far as the tool goes, I used it to cultivate a spot to plant some garlic. I knew I might have some problems because we have been having quite a bit of rain lately and the soil was somewhat wet. I did have to clean the tool several times, but it worked well. I believe in drier soil, it will work even better.

This little guy works its heart out! Love it for small garden work! Great back saver!
My husband used to do all of my digging in the garden . . . then we was severely injured. I had to find something that would loosen up the dirt for me. This cultivator will work up 4" deep soil at a time. You don't need to press heavily on the cultivator - it does the work on it's own. This isn't really for continuous long amounts of time for cultivation, but it will work on those smaller jobs of planting annuals, etc. If it gets a little warm, that's normal. I just let it cool down for a few minutes. It is important to remember not to run this with the lithium battery not fully charged. I purchased an extra battery so that I could easily keep working. One last thing, in the directions when you are putting on the tines at the bottom, it refers to the two cotter keys and tells you that you should put them on until they "bottom out". When you put the cotter keys on, you push them on to the MIDDLE part of the cotter key, not all the way to top of the hairpin looking part cotter key. Hope that helps, because the directions were a little confusing. I would recommend this to small gardeners and also suggest buying the extra battery. Happy Gardening!

Avid gardener and I love it
I love working in the yard and have bought several different hand powered hoes, garden weasels, rake or what not to help turn the soil in the flowerbeds. I buy commercial quality lawn and garden equipment and do not like cheaply made stuff. My back has seen better days and physical work makes my lower back ache and the pain can be severe at times. I saw this cultivator accidentally while looking for seed on Amazon, liked the idea and thought I'd try it. The blades do not actually spin in circles but instead twist back and forth. I am amazed how well it works. It is very comfortable and easy to hold while it's working. I let the tool do the work and can do all my flowerbeds without tearing up my back. It tears and uproots weeds and grass the beds too. The battery lasts a fair amount of time. I have Black and Decker's 20 volt leaf blower as well and it takes the same battery and uses the same charger. So now I have two batteries I can use on either tool. I am really pleased with this and how well it works. It is my new favorite tool for sure.

Easy and effective garden tool...
This little "egg-beater" garden took has become my new best friend. It loosens dirt adequately to about a 4" depth and keeps me off my aging knees. scoop the loose dirt out and go down another 4-5 inches. Great for planting or or loosening hard packed dirt. I have no strength in my right arm due to re-construction surgery on my shoulder and the tool is lightweight and makes me a rock star in my garden!
