Latch snaps firmly, keeping lid tightly sealed
The lid and latch close with a tight "snap". I don't know if it's actually air-tight, but it's got to be pretty close. The latch snaps upward over the lip of the lid and has a tight grip. I can't imagine how someone's pet is going to figure out how to open this (unless they have Wonder Dog at home). I suppose it could be knocked over and then messed with enough to get the latch undone, but it wouldn't be easily done otherwise. My vet advised me not to loose fill the container (to avoid bacteria growth). This bin easily holds an 8 to 10 lb of bagged food (with the top of the bag trimmed down to allow the lid to close smoothly). I have the clear base almond color and I appreciate being able to see the contents inside. Yes, I know it's got dog food in it, but in the future I may want to use it for something else. I have enough bins around the house that I have to actually open to remember what's stored inside.

Can't beat it for the price
Very strong chemical odor that washed away very easily with regular liquid Palmolive and a sponge. The lid also came off with little effort once opened to 90°, for cleaning. I just wiped the inside of the lid down with a damp paper towel, I didn't want to get water trapped behind the weather stripping (seal). Locks surprisingly strong for a plastic container, feels solid as you're locking it. I'm using mine indoors in a base cabinet to store cat food. It held about 3/4 of a 16LB bag of Purina One Adult cat food, so about 12LBS. Purchase is not regretted, thanks for a great product at a good price.

I compared several and this container seemed like it had the best reviews and was the most ...
I bought this to keep cat food in to keep our cats from getting into it, to keep the food fresh, and to make it look a little neater. I compared several and this container seemed like it had the best reviews and was the most appropriate size. This container seems sturdy, the lid latches easily, and the wheels move smoothly. I also like that this container isn't clear, as I feel like that protects the food inside from the sun. I ended up buying another one for the dog food, and am considering a third to keep cat litter, not that it needs to be kept in something like this, but to get the box out of the way and make the kitchen look nicer. I would buy this item again.

Airtight and very happy! Can't beat the price. Pros and cons identified in review and I will be buying another one.
I was leery about the hinges and airtight quality after reading the reviews. Maybe I lucked out, but I am thrilled with mine and it seals airtight perfectly. The only negative I see is that the lid doesn't have a resting spot when opened which puts pressure on the hinges. It does not seem durable enough to keep doing this, so I make sure to rest the lid on a chair or against the wall when I open it to keep pressure off of the hinge area. For the price, it met my expectations just fine. I'd rather have to be careful than spend an arm and a leg. All I had to do was snap on the wheels and it works great. I was surprised that I was able to cram a brand new 38.5 pound dog food bag into it - bag, scoop, and all. The plastic had a strange odor so I didn't want to pour in the food by itself. I listed the cons for information purposes, but I am very happy with my storage bin. The seal is tight and the wheels are smooth to roll around! I also like the smokey color of the bin. Thank you.

Excellent product for 50lb bags of feed!
This review is for the 67 qt IRIS containers. I am ecstatic about this purchase!! They were needed for my feed room to hold 50lb bags of feed. They do the trick with room to spare! Nice and compact vs barrels. I bought 9 total and pleased with every single one. All were in perfect condition when they arrived.

15 quart Holds a 12lb bag of cat food perfectly!
Perfect size for the 12lb bags of cat kibble we buy. My cat started ripping into his bags of food (even with a full bowl! Silly kitty!) so we needed a solution-- I was worried about buying this online and it holding enough, but as you can see, there is more than enough room in the 15 quart size for an entire, full 12lb bag.

Perfect to store dog food
We use this Iris premium storage tote for our German Shepherds dog food. They work so perfectly we bought another since we feed 2 different foods based on our dog's needs. Each tote holds about 50 pounds of dog food depending on kibble size. Two 30 pounds of Taste of the Wild or Sport Dog fits almost perfectly - due to the small kibble size. The wheels snap into place, staying in well. The lid isn't 100% air tight but it will keep the bugs out. I clean the surrounding area with essential oils including peppermint, cloves, lemongrass and tea tree oil to further deter any potential pests (cuts down germs too!) Since I store their food directly in the totes I periodically wash these totes with Dawn or orange cleaner (cuts the oils) before refilling. Highly recommend!

My favorite pet food storage containers!
I have always used IRIS brand storage containers and have been very pleased with them in the past. I think the oldest one still around is from at least 12 years ago and still going strong! So when my new cat was wily enough to figure out how to open his old food container (I was using a Buddeez 6 quart dispenser for his food since it fit the entire 7 lb bag inside), I went straight to Amazon to find my trusty IRIS brand containers like I use for our dogs! And, as usual, they do not disappoint! AIRTIGHT LATCH I know some have complained about the seal of the lids on these containers. I have some of the containers labeled premium and some of the regular ones and there is a difference in the thickness of the plastic on the lid and the tightness of the latch. I do not have any problems with ants so I can't speak to that issue which is one I've seen mentioned in reviews, but I found the premium ones have very sturdy and tight lids and the crafty feline is unable to open them so I no longer go out to feed him in the morning or evening and find his food container lid already wide open! CAPACITY After debating between the less expensive 28 quart and the more expensive and smaller 15 quart, I decided it just didn't make sense space-wise to get the larger container since the largest bag of his food is only about 15 lbs and it would be wasted space! So I elected to go with the smaller container then started researching the colors and options for the best price. And even though the capacity listed is 12 pounds, since this is cat food and in small pieces, I can fit an entire 15 lb bag in there which saves on the food bill. AMAZON WAREHOUSE DEALS So I'm going to take a moment to tout the Amazon Warehouse Deals if you happen to catch one! I have used this method in the past and I am again very pleased with my choice! I noticed there were some like new used containers in the smaller 15 quart size that I wanted so I was able to get what I needed but for half the price of the new one! Because it was Amazon, I felt confident I would be able to return it if there were any problems so I thought - why not? They are a very reliable source if you happen to come across an item available from them - especially if it says like new. They really do inspect them and I have never received a broken item or one not as described. My container even came with a sticker indicating it was inspected by Amazon Warehouse Deals. Overall, this was a great deal and the cat food is now safely sealed away until divided out for his meals. Very pleased with my purchase and a big thank you to Amazon Warehouse Deals!

55 quart fits 30 pound bag of Bil-Jac dog food
This is the perfect solution to store our dogs' food. The 55 quart size is a nice easy fit for the 30 pound bag of Bil-Jac select dog food. We can drop the bag in without having to dump it, which is recommended to keep it fresh. Cutting off the top of the bag leaves just enough room for a bowl with the leftovers of the previous bag. I thought this might be too big from the description but I'm glad I didn't buy the smaller version. The sticker on the container says it holds 45+ pounds of dog food, but that isn't true for our brand. The black color camouflages the bag, but looking closely you can see what is inside which might be useful if you had several of these. The wheels roll smoothly, but they are small and plastic so I wouldn't drop the full weight of the food heavily into the container or drop the container when full. There is a gasket embedded in the lid to help keep the seal tight and an easy one handed latch.

Better than other brands
Have had this container for about 2 weeks & am very happy with it keeping the food fresh. Do as the others have suggested & keep the pet food in the original bag - that way the interior stays clean & no accumulation of oils in container. I did feel the container was a bit pricey so I just ordered one when I really need 2 more. I remembered seeing pet food containers at the Wal Martians & thinking they were about sixteen dollars. Went back there & looked at their pet containers, they had a different brand, one with a blue lid & compared to IRIS brand, theirs had a flimsy lid & several reviews said the lid was not air tight. That was enough for me to come back to Amazon & put in an order for another IRIS container. I intend to purchase another one in the coming weeks. Upon arrival of my IRIS, I was totally disappointed because I did not think an 18 pound bag of food would fit in there. Well, it was a tight squeeze since I just left the food in the bag & stuffed it in there. But the lid snapped easily & it has been on the back porch where ants are abundant, but so far no ants or other critters have been seen in the container. Another thing, they are compact & don't take up much room - taller & slim, rather than being wide & short. Update on the Iris containers - It has been a couple of months & I now have 3 of these containers, one for cat food, one for dog food & one for bird seed. The containers are still air tight & no bugs or staleness of stored product has occured. I believe they come in different sizes for larger bags for whatever you are wanting to store. Don't settle for second best at the Wal Martians, you will be disappointed.
