Already beat the harder Final Fantasy IV on DS, but this is so different that is worth a playthrough of the main game again, AND has the Interlude AND After Years included!!! 3 games in one, with bestiary and plenty of cool extras. Controls are tight and intuitive and original sprites look flawless on the PSP screen, this little disc and manual are well worth the price they ask! Must have for any FF fan, new or old!

Just got the game and it works great and it was sealed. Great product and service!

Now don't get me wrong, they are both very good remakes. There are a few issues with each. In the PSP version, the magic defense glitch is fixed, so your magic defense totals from your equipment actually work (whereas in the DS version...). So now you won't be getting one shot party death from Red Dragons and such. But the most glaring problem that I have with this version is the monster speeds. They are slow. Super slow. I found myself getting in two attacks per character before the enemies even hit once. And I fiddled with the settings, turning the ATB to active and bumping the battles speeds up and down but it made little difference. Later in the game it does seem that the enemies improve their speed, but your characters' speed also increases greatly, so it's a bit of a wash. It does tend to make random battles easier. But beyond that one little issue, the game is nearly perfect. With the addition of the After Years saga, this is a must own for any FFIV fan, and it's one of the main reasons I bought a PSP (along with the Star Ocean remakes and Lunar remake). So let me tell you a little about why I love this remake. Unlike the more "3D" style of the DS FFIV, this is a faithful re-rendering of the original. Everything is presented in a top down perspective. The widescreen adds a nice bit of map area which is kind of nice. The graphics have been updated, but not so much that they detract from the experience and nostalgia. There are a few spots where the graphic updates make the game look different than the original, but mostly these are inside houses and inside castle rooms. The towns and dungeons appear to have the same number of 'squares' as the original game. So if it took twenty 'steps' to get from stairs in one cave to the treasure chest over yonder in the SNES version, than it takes the same in this version. Encounter rates seem to be on par with the Japanese version of the game. The dialogue has been updated from the old SNES script. Thankfully they did keep "You spoony Bard!" in the game. One major thumbs up for the game designers is that the music has been remastered, but there is an option to switch to the original score instead. This can be done from the game menu, so you can actually toggle between scores at will (as long as you can access the menu that is). The remastered score is very nice and true to the original. There were only a few times where I felt the new score was changed a bit too much (the few times were mostly during the sappy romance scenes - when Rosa visits Cecil in his room early in the game for example). Many purists might not go for the game as a remake. It does bear a strong similarity to the original. But what is nice is the addition of the 'new' sequel The After Years. This sequel of sorts gives players a continuation of the game with Cecil and Rosa's son as the protagonist. I highly recommend playing through the remake of FFIV first, especially if you have never played FFIV (FF2 in the US). The game is a faithful adaptation, and though there isn't a lot of 'fluff' added (such as FMV, or voice acting), I think this gives a nice amount of credibility to the game. The DS version upped the story line with cut scenes and voice acting, added a mini map and some questionable 'add on' material that changes the game drastically from the original. So the verdict is: FF IV for the PSP is the traditional remake keeping close to the original. The After Years is a nice addition. FF IV for the DS is a remake along the lines of the FF3 DS remake and FF Four Heroes of Light games. I think they are both worthy games though the DS version is much more difficult. Especially with the magic defense glitch. Plus the Dr. Lugae fight is about 99% luck in the DS version. Frustrations aside, the DS version will test even seasoned RPG veterans in the last couple of areas and on some of the optional bosses. I own both, and I play both, though I give the higher praise to the PSP version. It's well worth purchasing this gem on the PSP.

The creme de la creme of the PSP system, in my opinion, is the revised version of Final Fantasy IV. If you played it on the SNES back in the day, it was a great game with a lot of playing time. They enhanced the graphics big time for the PSP version and added the Interlude (worth playing but kind of useless), and the sometimes extremely challenging The After Years. The After Years wasn't very well received by the critics, and I can see why. It gets tedious at times for some of the characters' tales. The After Years isn't perfect, but if you can hang in there and make it to the last dungeon, you will definitely NOT be disappointed. There's gotta be about 60 bosses, and it takes roughly 20 hours to get through. On top of that, the last guy is almost unfairly tough. You can beat him if you slow the battle speed down (not by the spell 'Slow', but by tweaking the speed in the configuration menu), and I would recommend changing over to 'Wait' battle mode. If someone can beat the last guy on 'Active' battle mode on the fastest battle setting, I'd like to see it. I honestly don't think it can be done. Best I did was 'Active' on the 3rd fastest setting. Nevertheless, it's a very satisfying last battle, and a HUGELY satisfying ending. It may have been even getting a little dusty in the room, I'm not sure. They say it's 3 games in one, but it's more like 2 HUGE games. One of the coolest things about the game is when you beat FFIV, the last guy is Golbez. After you beat him, he plays a crucial role in The After Years, has a specific character tale dedicated to him, and you can use him as a member of your party. I even think he is one of the 5 characters that should be used for the last dungeon. Suffice to say, he's probably the most polarizing character in the game after Cecil, and the storyline for him is great. My elapsed playing time for the game was as follows: FFIV - 48 hours Interlude - 4 hours The After Years - 104 hours That's 156 hours of game on one UMD!!!! Granted, that's 98% of the bestiary complete, but even if you took the most direct route, it's still easily over 100 hours combined. I can't say enough about the game, and would recommend it to all patient gamers who love the FF series. You won't have the same experience if you do not complete this game. Then again, that's a lot of hours so it's not for anyone.

Though it was not the cover art I wanted, its still a great game, highly recommend this game to Final Fantasy series, and PSP owers in general

Loving the additional story-line. The graphics are refreshing even though I prefer the old ones. If you want to replay the classic with some additions I'd say this is for you. Who doesn't like more content? Especially when it doesn't mess with the original.

Great version of a beloved classic. I like this more than the DS version only because the DS version has horrible looking sprites.

I bought this because I knew I couldn't resist playing FFIV with nicer 2D visuals. There was a remake of IV for the Nintendo DS, but it did not use 2D graphics, instead opting for, in my opinion, lesser 3D graphics. The resolution of this PSP version, coupled with the widescreen presentation, really makes the game beautiful to play. The monster graphics are stunning. I also felt that the content included in this package was adequate for the price, offering the complete FFIV experience. You're given great options in the menu, too, like the ability to switch the music playing in the game to the original SNES soundtrack. A must own for the PSP.

Pretty good so far. I'm on the last stage of the game. Can't wait to complete this game and move on to Final Fantasy II. Just wish they would put 5 & 6 on the psp or vita so I could play them again too.

Great game. Has the entire Final Fantasy IV series. (PSP version)
