I bought this 4 years ago. Put it in the walk-in closet where we sometimes put our baby down to sleep in the basement and basically forgot it was there, with the exception of occasionally wondering if it really does work. Well....this week we found out. The alarm went off in the morning, I pushed the reset button to turn it off (I appreciate that there is a different beeping pattern to indicate low battery vs. dangerous carbon monoxide levels) and the alarm didn't resignal, so I kept wondering if it was a fluke or if I should do something about it. Finally, I decided better to play it safe than sorry given that several of my kids had been feeling tired/headaches the past couple days (could've been coincidence) and called the fire department for advice. They came out and sure enough, we had abnormally high levels in the basement. The gas company came out with more sophisticated equipment and pinpointed our furnace--turns out we had a cracked heater exchange that was emitting carbon monoxide. So thankful we had this detector!

I'm afraid to rely on just one cheaper china no brand detector so I feel much better having this one as well in the room I sleep. Can be a real lifesaver I've read lots of horror stories like one man who's detector was going off for low batteries so he removed batts before going to work & came home and his wife and kids were dead in their beds. Don't skimp out on these have at least 2 in the room you or family sleep just to be on safe side.

Seems to work well, as recently I cooked in our propane fueled stove, and after turning off the oven the detector alarm went off. We then realized that we smelled a bit of propane gas. We could have just gone to bed and had it leaking all night long. But the alarm worked.

Having just received these today, I can't leave a rating on durability, but I was delighted at how easy they were, first, to get out of their packaging (who ever heard of a rip strip on evil plastic packaging???) and second, to install batteries and place in appropriate places. I ordered one for a propane heater, one for a propane fireplace, and one to give as a gift. Instructions were also easily understood. VERY well pleased!

Works well, although I never had any CO to test it, I do check my home with a professional version at the beginning of every heating season. Not much else to say, batteries last a long time and unit is easy to mount.

We rent, and this is the exact unit in our apartment. Woke up in the middle of the night to it going off (didn't know what the sound was at first). Turned it off and opened up our windows. I wasn't feeling well, but I thought I was just getting sick (I hadn't been feeling well for a few days). That morning (a few hours later) I decided I didn't want to just ignore the alarm, so I called the local gas company. They were out within minutes and found the leak- our heater (which wasn't even being used) was leaking CO. They shut off our heater (the pilot light was on) and we've called our landlord. We were lucky to only have gotten a headache (hubby) and feeling feverish (me). It could have been much worse. And thankfully our pets were okay too.

One of my carbon monoxide detectors had reached it's "end of life", so I was looking for a simple, inexpensive, replacement that just does its job. The Kidde KN-COB-B-LPM Carbon Monoxide Alarm fit the bill. It costs under $15. It runs on two AA batteries. And it installs in minutes. The alarm is loud, and its features are very basic. You have a test button and a couple of LEDs to show the alarm's status. That's it. If you're looking for a fancy detector loaded with features, this isn't it. If you want simplicity and low cost, this detector will do the job.

Tragically, a local father and his young son recently died as a result of CO poisoning and that was my motivation for this purchase. Even though I have a CO detector on every level of my home, including the basement, they are all hard wired, meaning they won't work if the power goes out. I also don't know how old they are since I'm not the original home owner and I believe CO detectors have a certain life span before they become less effective. I have owned Kidde (pronounced Kidda not Kiddie) products in the past and thought they were okay products for the money so I went with this one. The minimum level to activate it is 70ppm whereas I've seen other detectors at 60ppm. I don't think the extra 10ppm matters. I didn't want the plug in type since it constantly uses electricity. I thought about getting the sealed battery type with the 10 year Lithium battery, but I won't be in my house for 10 years and I don't want to get one that's been sitting in a warehouse for 2 or 3 of those 10 years as some reviews have reported. I'm okay with spending a few bucks every year to replace the batteries. I also didn't want one with a display or backlight. For one, a display/backlight will use up more battery power and thus require more frequent battery replacement. For another, I don't need to see what the ppm reading is. If the alarm triggers, that's enough for me to know there's a problem. I don't need to see a digital readout of how close I came to dying. This unit is compact so it makes placement easier and it doesn't make itself as easily spotted as larger devices. I did NOT experience any issue with the unit beeping when it should not be beeping after inserting the batteries. It also has a 5 year warranty. I was so satisfied I ordered a second unit today for the second floor. It's inexpensive insurance. Regardless of what brand you go with, every home should have at least one.

Knowing that all states don't require carbon monoxide detectors in hotels, we have decided to bring our own whenever we travel. This product makes that very easy.

I tested my smoke detectors when we changed the clocks and found one of them, even with a new battery was not working. They say that they are only good for about 10 years, we have owned our house for 8 and they were here when we bought the house, so bought two smoke detectors for our two upstairs bedrooms. Since we heat with gas, I thought it would be good to add a CO alarm. Have one on our main floor and in the basement with the heating equipment, but nothing upstairs. Nice little unit, runs on batteries, so just installed on the wall. Hopefully will work if we ever need it.
