This was a gift for my brother who lives just over 600 miles from me. He needed a monitor for his security system as his old one was beginning to fail on him. As a early Christmas gift I decided to order him one through Amazon and chose an Asus monitor. My laptop is an Asus and it has been an excellent, trouble-free computer. My brother tells me this monitor was easy to connect as a replacement to his old one. Asus had provided two cables which came as a surprise to us both since most electronics often come without the much needed assessories. I was told the picture and sound was crystal clear and I could hear how pleased my brother was from the tone of his voice. That brought a smile to my face because when I give a gift, sight unseen, and it turns out to be the perfect gift....well that is worth everything to me. Asus has certainly gained my trust in their products.

Great monitor at a very good price. This is my third purchase of this monitor. I bought one for my parents who were still using a monitor the size of a postage stamp. I bought another for my husband when his monitor died and most recently treated myself to a new monitor when I built a new rig for myself. All TERRIFIC! Sorry, I don't have a pic, but it is "as advertised". The only complaint I have is that I am still trying to get my rebate from ASUS. They are still saying it's "on the way" but it has been far longer than the time frame I was originally given. It is only $20, but it is the principle. If I ever receive it, I will update this post. Fingers crossed. :)

I Love it! (Pictures included) Purchased on 5/31, Arrived 6/09. (9 Days) was free shipping over $49. -Box arrived undamaged. Upon opening the box, it had all components. Nicely individually wrapped. It included -Stand -Monitor -Power cable -DVI cable -VGA cable -ASUS VIP Member Notice -Quick Start Guide. After taking everything out of the box it was EXTREMELY easy to assemble. I can't stress that enough, a 12 year old could figure it out. The cords had caps on them to prevent dust and bending of the pins but again were simple to take off. On the back of the monitor, it had -HDMI port -DVI port -VGA port -3.5mm audio port. (Needs input from HDMI cable) After putting it all together, the final product was beautiful. -It worked perfectly! -There were no dead pixels. -The colors were vibrant. -The images and letters were sharp. -The picture is just amazing. -The quality is outstanding. It was just perfect. I LOVE this product and I'm 100% completely satisfied with my purchase. I did not receive a discount for my review either. I would DEFINITELY recommend. UPDATE: It's been a month since I purchased it and still had no problems with it.

Pros: - Great price - Great Brand - bright color Cons: - none Quality: If you are looking for a monitor that you are using on a normal basis and are not looking for some crazy gaming screen then this is for you. It looks great, it functions great, and it is easy to set up. I typically by ASUS monitors because they seem pretty reliable and I really like the look of them. They do not look cheap or cheesy at all. In my opinion, its one of the better brands on the market. Value: The price of this product is extremely competitive with any other brand and model and I think the picture is probably better than most of the competition. Again, this is an everyday normal task monitor but works great. I have been using this same ASUS monitor for over a year now and have had not a single problem with it. I'll continue to buy these.

I have been a fan of ASUS for years now! I have 3 of their monitors and they have been perfect for me. I have the 24 inch, this monitor and a 19 inch display. These monitors are amazing! Crisp picture and easy set up are one of the great things these monitors have in common. I have had two of the monitors for 3 years and they are still going strong. You are not going to be disappointed! PS. You can plug in external speakers to 21.5 inches and above with an aux cable. Works perfectly fine.

This monitor seems to be manufactured by different companies even though they have the same ASUS branding and model number. I ordered two of these monitors and one had the colors spot on with those on my laptop display while the other had washed out colors and reds appeared orange. I couldn't fix the washed out colors with any of the settings provided by the monitor nor manually changing the RGB parameters on the monitor and my NVIDIA settings. I promptly decided I couldn't deal with that and I returned the monitor with the washed out colors and received another one without any hassle. Amazon was great at sending me another monitor as fast as possible without any gimmicks. The two monitors I have now are great and colors are the same. I noted differences between the two monitors with the same model number. I will describe the good monitor first and the bad monitor second. The images will also be in the same order. Packaging 1.) Good: Handle on the packaging box is white. Bad: Handle is black. 2.) Good: Styrofoam protecting front and back of monitor. Bad: Styrofoam protecting top and bottom of monitor. 3.) Good: Quick Start Guide for VS228/VS229/VK228. Bad: Quick start guide for VS228/VS238/VS247 Monitor 1.) Good: Power LED is dark blue and dim. Bad: Power LED is light blue and bright. 2.) Good: Bottom of base is half metal and half plastic Bad: Bottom of base is all metal 3.) Good: Menu is smaller and not that bright Bad: Menu items are bigger and bright 4.) Good: Monitor is physically taller Bad: Monitor is physically shorter 5.) Good: Awesome colors Bad: Washed out colors and reds appear orange 6.) Good: When no signal is present blue screen is a dark blue Bad: Blue screen is a bright blue. 7.) Good: No effect on ASUS logo when turning on monitor Bad: ASUS logo appears from center towards the outside Aside from this small setback, the monitors are perfect for my setup. They have nice colors and work great with anything I throw at them.

Although a fast CPU and plenty of RAM and hard drive space are important, the monitor is arguably the most important part of any computer system. After all, you’ll be staring at the screen virtually the entire time you’re using your computer. I received an ASUS VS228H-P 22-Inch Full-HD LCD Monitor for review about a week ago, and after working out a quirk I quickly came to realize that I really love this monitor! First, let me tell you about the quirk. As with most modern LCD monitors, this one came from the factory with the brightness set just about as high as you can get it. I believe they do this so that if the monitor ends up being on display in a big box store it will appear bright and clear compared to the others on the shelf. Although the super-bright screen was initially a bit of an annoyance, I was able to quickly adjust it to the correct level in the monitor settings. Problem solved. Now for the things I really like about the ASUS VS228H-P… Well, first of all there is the aforementioned brightness. If you like your screen bright and clear, trust me – this is the monitor for you! Next, there’s the clear, sharp text and vibrant colors. If you’re like me and do a lot of reading and/or writing, you’ll love the way this monitor is so easy on the eyes. The focus and sharpness are incredible. And if you do a lot of work with photos, you’ll likely find the colors to be vivid and quite accurate right out of the box. The technical specs aren’t bad either. You’ll get 1920x1080p full HD video capability along with support for VGA, DVI-D and HDMI connections. The package includes both VGA and DVI cables, but you’ll have to lay out a few bucks extra for an HDMI cable if you want to go that route (which I did). While reading some of the other reviews of this monitor on Amazon, I noticed that a few users considered the monitor stand to be a little on the flimsy side. Perhaps the particular units they reviewed had different stands, but I found the one on my monitor to be quite stable. This could be one of those things that get “fixed” over time due to customer feedback. Bottom line: All in all, I like this monitor a lot. I honestly don’t think you can beat it for just a little over a hundred bucks!

This was the perfect monitor I needed to set up my 2-screen PC. I already had a 22-inch ASUS with internal speakers so I didn’t need another one with speakers. I use my computer for work-related issues (documents, spreadsheets, etc), to surf the web, check my e-mail. If you are a professional photographer, movie maker or something requiring super-high quality resolution, my review might not be of such an interest to you. PROS: • Slim and lightweight, making it very easy to carry and install • Different menu functions, screen modes, color temperature which make it very adjustable to your light situation • Colors are vivid and the resolution is very good (this is for what I do. May not be the same for some other people) • HDMI, DVI, VGA and a headphone connectivity (haven’t tried the headphone one) • VESA mounting compatibility CONS: • No internal speakers. Again, it wasn’t what I was looking for, but it might be what you need • Connections on the back go on a 90° angle instead of going parallel to it, which may be an issue if you’re tight on space or want to hang it on the wall • There’s no “cable organizer” type of hole on the back. My older ASUS monitor has type of channel to put your cables through which comes with the mount, and I find it useful to have the cables organized • Stand only tilts. It can’t be adjusted in height, rotation or sideways inclination. Conclusion: I love this monitor and is perfect for my needs. It delivers good image quality and has a good size and the connections I need. If you already own a monitor and want a second one, please measure yours appropriately to see if they will look good side to side. My older monitor is a bit taller which I fixed by putting this one on top of a magazine. If you’re looking for a monitor with much more connections (USB, SD card, DisplayPort, speakers) or with an adjustable stand, go for a higher-end monitor. I totally recommend this monitor.

In addition to the monitor, the package included a 6' VGA cable and a 6' DVI cable, which I hadn't expected. It seems like most manufacturers these days sell you electronics but then expect you to go buy the necessary cables - however, the Asus monitor came with these. It does not include an HDMI cable, but I already have a couple of spare. Since I wasn't expecting the VGA cable, I separately bought one of those for use with my older corporate laptop. The stand is extremely simple to install. I especially like the "no tools" screw, which has a small flip-up flat piece that allows you to tighten the screw entirely by hand. The monitor adjusts to between about -5 degrees forward tilt (if you wanted to put it up on a shelf above eye level) to about 10 degrees backwards tilt (for a tall person with a monitor on a low desk. No significant color/brightness issues. It is easily viewable with only slight color fading at up to about 30 degrees off-angle. Picture quality is excellent - no appreciable lags or artifacts in videos and resolution with a 10 Megapixal camera image was sharp and clear. As soon as I connected the VGA cable and turned on the monitor, it appeared, automatically sync'ed and adjusted to my laptop display resolution. All I had to do was tell Windows how I wanted the monitors arranged (extend desktop and put second monitor to left of primary laptop). Setup took less than 10 minutes, including unpacking, installing base, plugging in and configuring Windows. The default setup is quite bright, but I found that their "sRGB" mode produced a very nice level of brightness. There are several "standard" modes of display - "theater", "game", "scenery", and "night mode" in addition to the "sRGB". Each has a slightly different brightness and contrast mix. You should be able to find one that you like from the standard list, or you can fine-tune the display through individual controls. Update - well - one flaw. The power cord is only 5 feet long, which doesn't quite reach my power bar, so now I need to buy a 6 foot cord. So close, but not quite there... Update - from a question that was posted. While the monitor comes with two connector cables, you should only connect ONE type of cable between a computer and a monitor (any computer and any monitor - not just this one). Either use an HDMI cable (not included) OR the DVI cable OR the VGA cable. Do not connect both the DVI and VGA cables between the same computer and the monitor. If your computer has only a VGA connector (common on older and laptop computers), then if you want to get audio you will need to separately purchase a "VGA with audio to HDMI" adapter cable. This cable will have a VGA connector and a loose "pigtail" wire with a 3.5mm audio jack on one end, and an HDMI connector on the other end. Plug the VGA connector into your computer, plug the 3.5mm audio jack into your computer's headphones output receptacle, and plug the HDMI connector into the back of the monitor and you should be able to get audio output to the monitor.

I bought a pair of these to use with my 21.5" 2012 iMac, which Apple in their infinite wisdom, opted not to make matching lightning display for. These are a near perfect match in terms of color, pixel density, resolution and size.
