I stuff the back with timothy grass hay, and really pack it in there, then put pellets in the front. My rabbit tears that hay out of there all day long, and so far has not tried to chew the feeder. Everything else is shredded, but that and the litter box remain untouched. Good size for one rabbit to fill with fresh hay once every day or two. I think it would be too small with more than one rabbit, so I'd want a second.

I got this to hold hay for my guinea pigs, who didn't take to a hay rack. I needed something that wouldn't easily tip over, that was fairly deep, and not too tempting to use as a bed. I have it just sort of sitting on the ground and attached it to the grids just above. I was just going to use the front half, but discovered I could slide out the bars that make the rack, and now it holds about twice as much and can be reached from the sides. Hay gets everywhere, of course, but they love it.

I was nervous about purchasing this for my guinea pigs due to some of the reviews saying their guinea pigs climbed into the back hay area and we're getting stuck. This feeder is absolutely perfect and my piggies love it!

This thing has lasted for 4 years with literally no wear and tear. It holds up great, has sturdy metal hooks and does its job where the animals cannot tip it and dump all of the expensive food out. Now we just got angora rabbits and I am about to buy more of these same ones because I spent a LOT of money on expensive bowls for our ferrets and this was the only one that does the job, our girl ferret still has this bowl in her cage! For any reviews you read about this looking 'worn or used' Please note, this is a super smart design made with wood and plastic so that its safer than most materials for when your pets, inevitably, chew on the bowl. All of the bowls will look different because they have pieces of wood in the plastic. Best feeder to buy and its cheaper than anything comparable you can find local. I went to two tractor/ outdoor farm stores today and could not find anything like it.

I bought this item with the idea that it could save on food waste for our guinea pigs. The hay openings are wider than on most other hay hoppers which allow the animal to get at the hay easier. The guinea pigs can't seem to get at the hay if the bars or openings are too close together. Any loose hay can fall down into the dry food dish which saves it from being wasted. What I don't like is that this newer model has a wire door that closes the top opening of the hay hopper. Our guinea pigs like to stand up and pull hay out from the top and they can't with this "door" so I've removed the wire type bars that hold the hay in so they have easier access to the hay. That defeats the purpose to some extent, but it still works. Hopefully the Quick Locks on the newer model don't break like the one we bought before this one. So far they appear stronger than older models and are holding up nicely. I have it sitting on the floor of the cage with the Quick Locks attached to the cage wires to keep it in place as otherwise the piggies will move it around. To me this saves space in the cage having a dry food "dish" in the same unit as the hay hopper. I do recommend this product and will buy it again if this one ever needs to be replaced! It is made very well and should last a long time.

I recently got a bunny as a therapy animal (the university calls it something different but I can never remember their term) and decided to get this, even though my cage came with a hay feeder. My bunny loves this feeder and would be lost without it. I briefly tried to get him to use the feeder that came with the cage but the alfalfa I've begun using (he's about 9 weeks at the moment) kept falling into his litter box. Now, it doesn't stop him from being a picky bunny and throwing the long stalks into his litterbox but it keeps a lot of hay from going to waste due to falling when he gets it from behind the gray bars. I love that I can attach it to the cage above his litter box and he loves that he can sit in it (and pee in it much to my dismay).

Some hay and food will always make it to the cage floor no matter what, but I am really pleased with these. I have one rabbit in particular who I've tried all sorts of food dishes with and even he doesn't even make a mess with this one. Before this he had a j-feeder and I had even used additional zip-ties to fasten it to his cage and he STILL managed to spill half his food all over. So far so good with this dish. And I love that it doubles as a hay feeder, as most feeders are prone to getting hay all over the place. But since these have a bottom, a lot of the hay actually stays in it.

this feeder came in having a certain odor but the odor was just the product being NEW. Odor went away within couple of days. I have washed it and placed it in the hutch, but I only keep hay in it as if I put pettets on the bottom...hay falls over it. My bunny has a bowl of pellets and hay feeder which is this feeder here and he eats out of it without any issues. It clips into the hutch fence and stays in place. I refill daily. I would highly recommend this to any one who has any animals that eat Hay. It is very nicely built. Very hard and doesn't look cheap at all. The size is in my opinion perfect for my bunny. Looks exactly as shown on photo

I have used three products for dispensing hay. This is the best. Pros: Keep hay contained. Holds a large amount. Doesn’t take up much space. Attached easily to wire cage Holds pellet food also Cannot be spilled Durable Cons: First one I ordered was missing parts. Easily resolved. Good customer service. We have a very active adult guinea pig. As for the issue in other reviews, that a guinea pig could reach the hay well; I’m confused about how this could be an issue.
