This was my first attempt at raising chickens. For use in my brooder, I purchased a 100W Ceramic Infrared heat emitter, and a Zilla Terrarium controller to use with a Reflector Dome for providing a source of regulated heat. The devices all worked well together. The chicks were drawn to it and would huddle underneath it for warmth. I had read that the infrared spectrum of heat more closely resembled sunlight and was better suited as a healthier heat source. There was no need for moving the dome up as the chicks got older to lower the temperature as the Zilla device was able to control the temperature within a few degrees. Made my job a lot simpler.

So I got this and an infrared bulb for my elderly rats as added heat in the winter. I elevated it using a shallow metal storage basket on top of the cage so my babies won't burn accidentally touching the hot metal of the cage. The spring clips this comes with is handy to attach it to the metal storage basket. I've seen the babies hang out under it when they take their 20 hour naps.

Its great it has a ceramic socket which you need for the amount of heat the bulbs put out,the ones at home depot/lowes there rated for 150 but they have a plastic socket.

I use this to keep my cockatiel warm in the winter time. Her doctor recommended it. Tiki loves it. If it is really chilly, she sleeps in her Lovey and the lamp is close. She trills when the lamp goes on. If it is only a little chilly, Tiki sleeps in her Lovey and the lamp is on, but not as close. Both work great. Be careful that the lamp is cooled, before moving it to wooden surface. It gets warm enough to scorch wood. Ask me how I know. LOL

The Zilla Premium Reflector Domes are a great value and holds up well to heat exposure. I use mine in a 55 gal enclosure for a reptile. I use a 150w heat bulb in the dome and it holds up great. This dome comes with a spring that slips on the top of the some to hold the light to an enclosure. I did not want a clamp type dome and this one was perfect for what I needed. Be careful with inserting the bulb if inserted to tightly you will damage the ceramic base. The ceramic base does unscrew from the black metal base at times. If this happens just screw it back together. This is a great dome and I will most likely order again if this one ever goes out. I have had mine for about 6 months and it is still going great.

This review refers to the black Zilla 8.5 inch premium dome reflector. Other reviews mixed in here refer to other models. This is a sturdy dome with a porcelain socket that does have an in line on/off switch. It does not have a hanging loop. However, if you are looking to rest this directly on a screen top it is ideal. Included in the price is a small collar with three attached springs which anchors the fixture securely to the screen. This feature eliminates the possibly of the fixture being knocked or siding off, especially if, like me, you have a top with a hinged, flip up front portion. Considering that the spring clip sells by itself for $3-$4, that makes this fixture a bargain.

After too many cold nights, I came to the realization that my critters were not happy at 66F and would not use the little blankets I bought them. I guess using blankets isn't something ectotherms benefit from. I'm using this dome in conjunction with iPower GLTIMEDWEEK timer and BYB - 100W Ceramic Infrared Heater to control heat my the animals I have in a screen cage. The dome of this reflector gets hot, but so far, it has not gotten hot enough to damage the screen top of the enclosure. I'm not sure what else there is to say. This is a solid, functional, heavy duty reflector dome that works well in my current setup.

I love this lamp! I do not know about other reviews, but I ordered 2 and they both HAVE AN ON/OFF SWITCH, and have the little mounting clamps. This product is only for a 60 watt bulb and it is not deep dome, so it will not work for all bulbs, but I knew that going into it. I have a 60 watt basking light in one and a 60 watt ceramic heater in another over a 20 gallon tank. I'll have to get bigger domes when my lizard grows, but they're perfect for now!

I have 3 geckos (in 3 different terrariums) and picked this up for all of them and it works great. Do note this is the kind of light you place on top of the grate of the cage, it is not a clip on. But this was exactly what I needed for my setup and they've been perfect.

I used this with a 150 watt infrared heat emitter to keep older chicks in the garage warm. I secured it on top of the wire cover and the chicks perched underneath it. I like that it has an on/off switch.
