These are dramatically different and much better than Cangshan/Dexter/Mundial/Everpride knife guards. The latter weakly grips your knives and easily slide all off. Having owned Cangshan, Dexter, Mundial, and Everpride guards before there is nothing different between them. They are all generic. Yes, Mercer guards are slightly more expensive but that premium is well worth it. As for the felt lining, your knives don't care much about that and Mercer guards have a very similar feel putting the knife into the guard. Highly recommended. For those with Misen knives, the chef's knife, serrated (bread) knife, and paring knife all fit well into these guards.
I have a lot of knives, most of which are top of the line cutlery. Bought this knife after Americas Test Kitchen reviewed it and gave it a top review. It is amazing. Incredibly sharp, easy to handle, cuts through the toughest bread like butter. Bought the "sleeve" to protect it in my knife drawer; fits like a glove. Can't believe a knife this inexpensive can be so GREAT.
I can't speak to durability, sturdiness or value for the money since it's still rather new and time will only prove those three things. I decided not long ago I really needed to invest in better knives, I've been using those real cheap knives from the Chinese houseware stores for most of my life but they do not sharpen up very well, nor do they stay "sharp" very long and before I die (my bucket list) I really wanted at least 2 really good (pretty good, I do not know what qualifies as really good) knives and bought two. I love them, I sit there just looking at them, they are so lovely, so sharp, so beautiful and slice like you wouldn't believe. Anyway, now that I have my beautiful knives, I needed to protect them. I only have about 30" of counter space to work in so I don't have space for one of those knife blocks and the way the wall is you can't put a magnet strip there. Oh, yes, I have one drawer for all my kitchen utensils, flatware, everything. So I'm using a shallow box to keep things I use all the time including my knives which I have had in those rigid plastic knife sheathes but they are open on top and stuff gets in there including moisture/oil in the air (it is a much used kitchen). So, looked around and saw this. My newest beautiful knife was too big for the other cloth guards I'd bought but this one fits like a glove. It feels sturdy to me, the razor sharp knife edge hasn't cut through the fabric (yet?), seems to be protecting my precious knife. In other words, so far, it's working very well and I can easily tell my excellent knife from all the lousy Chinese-made ones just by its cover.
A perfect pair to have with any knife that you care about. It helps protect the blade when not in use and prevents accidents from happening when the knife is not in use. There is a slit at the top to slide the blade into, so you have to be careful putting it away, but knives slide in easily.
I had just bought the most expensive knives I've ever had in my life ($30--- whoa, big spender!! *Sarcasm, if you didn't get that). These work on my 8" santoku and 10"chef knife. I wish they had different colors but, hey, they serve their purpose. Very durable material and easy to use.
I ordered this because of the Mercer Culinary Genesis Steak Knife that i previously ordered and discovered the knife came with no blade protection at all. These knife guards work perfectly with the knife and seem sturdy enough that they should last a very long time. Suggestion: Their very excellent knife should come with one of these guards (same company), just add the few dollars to the cost of the knife. Still a bargain.
This was a second thought purchase, and very pleased with it. The serrated knife is 10 inches and very sharp, it fits snugly and I don’t have to worry about it getting knicked.
I recently bought a bread knife and needed a knife guard so I could put it in my kitchen drawer. The bread knife I bought has a blade that is lover than the handle, so the knife guard needed to be thin and long enough to cover the entire blade. Done and Done! This is perfect. It also holds the blade firmly but is not difficult to slip onto the blade. It's a simple measure, but very effective and the Mercer knife guard performs flawlessly.
Let me start by answering many negative comments. Anyone forcing a razor sharp knife blade into or out of one of these snug fitting guards deserves to get cut! The proper way to insert or remove the guard is to "rock" it. I included a couple of photos. I hope they help someone avoid serious injury. These guards are perfect and work as intended.

Nice Knife cover but not a scabbard
Great knife cover- I was expecting a scabbard but this works great. You will need one- their knives are sharp-

If you care about them, protect your knives, people!
