great!!!
Great product! !! Works really well. I have 40 baby yellow labs inside it. I did have to put a cut up piece of filter on the part that water goes back Into the main tank so the babies don't get sucked through it. Other than that it's great

Perfect way to give new born fry circulating water with the protection from getting eaten from larger fish. I have tried many different breeder boxes internal and external and this is by far the best priced and most reliable I have used. Will be purchasing another one in the near future.

BEST Box to date.
THIS is the best Holding Box I have ever seen, nice and roomy, good water circulation, however it could have been made MUCH better if it came with a grate for the bottom to allow the babies to fall thru until they went thru the standing divider into a chamber for just babies,as it is now,its OK,but the babies tend to fall to the bottom of the tank, and if the owner isnt watchful, the babies can become a treat for the adults.Luckily I had another mesh type cheapo holding box that I cut up to make a grate for the bottom.I am currently working on a video that will show the birthing process of the Red Wag Platy in time lapse, which will be shown on the you know which video place as soon as done.

Using as HOB filter
I bought this to make a hang on back filter for my ten gallon planted tank, and it's working well. It comes with two dividers so you can make three compartments (I'm using the large size box). One section holds a water pump, one section is filled with floss, and the other section has lava rock. I also have pothos growing in there. I used 1/2" vinyl tubing going from the water pump into my tank for the intake (you'll need an in-line pump for this to work, or you can modify a submersible pump). I also have a pre-filter sponge on the end of the intake tubing. The tubing size prevents the lid from going all the way on now, but I don't mind. It was a really cheap way to triple the filter size for my tank. Of course you could cut the lid to allow space for the tubing, which I might do eventually. I didn't try the included tubing with an air pump (which is how you are supposed to run this) so I can't say anything about that, but for me, this is working exactly how I hoped it would. And for $8 I couldn't be more pleased. It's not perfect, but with a few more mods it might be!

Clean water flow through breeder box
I've kept breeder boxes previously, but they all had two options. 1. Plain box hanging outside the tank with no water exchange, essentially a separate tank. 2. Kept in tank to allow for water exchange, but fish fry and shrimplets could escape into the main tank, where they would likely be consumed. By hooking up an airline to this breeder box, water from the tank constantly trickles into the breeder box allowing for fresh clean water to be exchanged. The flow return to the tank is small enough where it should allow small creatures to stay in the breeder box. It also has a small grate to make the holes even smaller. The flow is too slow to make an effective mechanical filtration setup, but if this was loaded with biomedia, slow flow is exactly what you want to give bacteria time to consume nitrogen. It could even be used to house small terrestrial plants for hydroponics.

Great to always have on hand
I have all 3 sizes of these, probably about 6-8 boxes total. I really love these, they make it easy to separate aggressive fish temporarily and a few days for time for a pair to breed. It's also really great to keep young fry in for safety, might need to wrap the grate protecting the outflow port either in a small media bag to prevent small fry from slipping though, I use a small chunk of polyfilter. The partitions are removable and adjustable. My only concern is food does get stuck in the bottom of it quite easily, the flow of water seems to mainly just go across the top leaving the lower portion too stagnant imo. Easy to take out the debris with a baster though. It's by far better than other breeder boxes that hang INSIDE the tank, it's nice to not take up all the top space of the inside of your tank and just have 1 or 2 on the outside as needed.

Fantastic little breeder
We bought some guppies that turned out to be pregnant so I over-nighted this breeder box. I think the design is fantastic. The bubbler tube keeps the water inside the box continuously turned our with the main tank and so long as the water flow if high enough the temperature stays pretty constant. The gurgling noise reported by some other reviewers is only a problem when the air flow is very high but the box comes with a gate valve on the air supply that can be used to dial it down until it no longer makes noise (or at least less then the HOB filter of the primary tank makes). My only regret is buying the medium rather than the large. From the pictures it looked like the large has a slightly better setup for the compartments that would allow keeping a couple of pregnant females in the breeder while still giving room for the fry. In the medium, with the false bottom in place, there really isn't a whole lot of room for the fry and after we started to acquire 25-30 of them we decided to move the adult out and remove the bottom. This ended up resulting in more fry being born in the primary tank which we had to hunt down and scoop out before they were eaten. No fault of this product though.

as it causes unnecessary noise and water disturbance
This box is designed and produced so well and economically that the make should charge an extra $10 and include a Rio 50 convertible powerhead pump with it. All Rio powerheads are provided with an accessory output valve so that you can control the amount of water flow.I used a 1" piece of pliable siphoning hose to connect the pump to the tubing, then turned the flow down to mild trickle. I did not use the turn down cap with a hole in it, as it causes unnecessary noise and water disturbance. Interesting note: my male betta figured out the hole in the lid and it was just large enough for him to jump through and flop his way back into the main tank. I don't know of too many fish that will stick their eyes out of the water and plan a land-based escape, but bettas are known for moving about from one small puddle to another to find a better place to live.

Impressed with a simple bubble
This HO box is a fantastic saver for me in many ways. I use it as a 'time-out' box for an overly aggressive fish and let them stay in there a few days and put them back in, or as an isolation box to have injured individuals heal up - All without setting up my iso tank which takes a good 30 minutes to do. with this item it only takes as long as to place it on, fill it and catch the fish. I enjoy that I don't have to worry about temp and levels when moving to different tanks. So i have to say just putting them in and out is a great deal of stress off my mind knowing the water is 100% the same. any hobbyist needs this in their tool kit.

Only Thing Like It
I’ve found this breeder box to be invaluable. I can isolate small fish, fry or injured fish without having to find space and set up another tank. I did as another reviewer suggested and bought this along with the submersible water pump to increase water flow through the container. It can be a little tricky to get the box level so that the water doesn’t drip. I like them and use them enough that I’ve bought two. The only improvement I would make on this system is the size. It’s great for small fish but I would like to be able to temporarily house a single cichlid over a couple inches or my dwarf cray babies for longer before having to move them to a larger space. Other than that, it’s great and comes with top, dividers, vent, and tubing.
