and nice pour control via the long gooseneck are indispensable features
I’ve had this kettle for over 4 years and have used it daily since. We use it for pour over coffee plus all throughout the day for any reason we would need fast hot water. The precision temp control, hold temp feature, and nice pour control via the long gooseneck are indispensable features. We start with filtered fresh cold water and use various temps for pour over coffee, americanos, tea, and other hot beverages. We also it to heat up the water to 110 degrees for my dogs dry kibble food. Also use it for cooking to speed up the process of getting a small amount of water to boiling for soups or pasta, then transferring to stove top into a pot. It’s so much faster than the stove top alone. We use it multiple times daily. It has stood the test of time. Highly recommend.

Love this pot
This thing is pretty much a staple in my life. I bought it two years ago and have been using it at least twice a week ever since. I use it for tea, hot cocoa, french press coffee, and even for cooking since it gets water boiling faster than my stove top. When I originally bought this, I thought that I wouldn't be using the temperature control feature too much, and that it was probably just a 'bell and whistle' sort of thing, but I use it all the time. I can follow the temperature directions on the packages of different teas pretty exactly and have better quality drinks as a result. For making other warm beverages like cocoa or cider, I can tailor pick the temperature so that its hot but not hot enough to burn my tongue (I'm not always patient enough to wait for the beverages to cool). Its stainless steel, so the outside is prone to getting little finger prints on it but the handle is a black plastic so you shouldn't be having to touch the stainless steel all that often. If you do get finger prints on it, you can just wipe it off, easy as pie. The pot is big enough to get your hand in there and scrub off any scale accumulation easily. Seriously, I've never had any problems with this thing and believe this will last me many more years to come. It was $70 well spent.

A surprisingly useful multitasker
I purchased this kettle when I first got into pour over coffee. I've used it for 10 months now, and so far it has worked flawlessly. It heats up unto 1 liter of water to temperatures of 212F or less and maintains a constant temperature for upto an hour. The heat up time is very quick - quicker than using a microwave for a similar volume of water, but the real convenience is the hold feature, which lets you set the water up to heat and go off and do other things. You can choose Centigrade or Fahrenheit and it will remember your selection. My pour over setup is simple - the filter holder from a Bonavita coffee machine placed over the carafe of a Bodum French Press. The spout of this kettle is very well designed to work with this or really any pour over setup. I have not bothered to buy a dedicated pour over kit, since this setup makes excellent coffee without adding other gadget to my kitchen. In 10 months of use, I have not had it rust, and I certainly do not empty or dry it after each use. And while its primary purpose is to make coffee, I am surprised at how many other uses we have found for it - heating water to boiling to prepare brown rice in the oven, for sterilizing the spoons, forks, and small strainer I use to make yogurt, preheating flasks we use to keep food warm in, making tea - these are just a few examples. For all these applications, the quick heat up time is very useful. About the only thing I'd wish they'd have done different would be to not have to press a "hold" button to maintain temperature; the way it is set up now, if you do not do that, it will heat up and once it hits set point, start to cool down again. It is a minor inconvenience in an otherwise very well designed and useful appliance. Update: About 14 months after purchase, the kettle started showing occasional random temperature jumps while heating. Even though out of warranty, I contacted Bonavita and they promptly shipped me a replacement.

ridiculously pleased
i had finally caved, after having two electric kettles die within months of purchase, and decided to order the Breville Variable-Temperature Kettle. it was way more money than i wanted to spend, and way more kettle volume than i needed, and i wasn't particularly enchanted by the playdough design. but i did trust breville to make a kettle that wasn't going to die for years, not just months, after purchase. so there i was, my cart filled, about to head for the checkout when i see this little guy in suggested products row. and it was everything i wanted. small. variable temperature. all stainless steel with no plastic parts coming in contact with the water at any stage. at half the price and all the features. who could say no?! not i. out went the breville, in went the bonavita without a second thought, and i haven't regretted the decision yet, nor do i expect to. the design is simple, straight forward, and functional, while also being beautiful in its functionality.

This is Perfection but not Perfect in the hands of unaware users.
This is exactly what I needed. I perfect way of heating water quickly and it served my needs well. There is a temperature control and you can switch it to Celsius or Fahrenheit. This is very important because of the optimal temperature for tea or coffee (I like making coffee the old fashion way). And of course, there is an optimal temperature for each kind of tea. But I digress. I really enjoy the ability to control the flow of pouring so this is ideal. It is a good looking kettle so leaving it on top of the counter is not offensive to the eye. It actually elicited a lot of conversation from guests. Users be aware: this is not for warming up lattes. Thank you to someone who did that, my unit was damaged. She bought me a different brand to replace it, but it never rose to this level. It was 2 times more expensive than the replacement I was given, but worth every penny. I'm putting it on my wish list so I get another one for my birthday!

For tea drinkers who want to control the water temperature - this is easy, and works
We use this constantly. It is the only fine-tune (to the degree) temperature-controlled hot water heater i know of, and it is simple to use. I have no doubt that the temperature accuracy isn't perfect, and it wouldn't surprise me if it were off by a few degrees. But, I doubt that the accuracy is off by more than a few degrees, and that's fine. You can set the temperature to any value. It is solid and has not broken down in a year of heavy use. The handle fits the hand perfectly, it is easy to lift on and off, and I should say - there is a feature that we find indispensable: When you click the button on the right, it causes the thing to HOLD its temperate (once it reaches the desired temperature) for 30 minutes, so there's no worry about needing to rush back in time when it heats up. Also - this heats up FAST. About as fast as a regular, boil-only hot water boiler. Note: We do keep the plastic covering the base (this is an option when the unit arrives). It's not the prettiest, but we use this 5-10 times a day, and I'd rather have it remain in good working order. For tea drinkers like me, who just want to be able to easily follow the directions and steep their tea at the desired temperature, this is the best (if not only) one out there (at least when we bought it a year ago - I haven't looked since). One small downside (not worth deducting a start) - the pouring neck is so narrow that it takes a long time to pour water into your teapot. It definitely prevents splashing, but it's kind of annoying to have to wait 20 seconds (that's really how long it takes!) to pour a pot of tea. On the other hand, I enjoy using the opportunity to smell and watch my tea and relax.

So far, this kettle is a vast improvement on the Cuisinart...
I had a Cuisinart Electric Kettle for about 5 years. The labels wore off of the temperature buttons after about six months. After about 3 years, the kettle would not turn off after reaching temperature---meaning, it would continue to boil until I manually shut it down. That is why I dumped it. It became dangerous. Now, I am using the Bonavita 1.7L kettle and so far, I am extremely pleased. I like the infinite adjustability and the built-in timer. IMO, it would be nice if the timer began automatically, but that is picking nits. It took a few days for my wife to get used to the gooseneck spout. You really do have excellent control of water flow, which when brewing coffee, with the pour-over method is crucial. I haven't had the kettle long enough to speak to other's complaints of rusting. We'll see and I will update my review in about a year. This is an excellent kettle for those who want complete control over their water temperature. The 1.7L size works well for two, allowing extra water to warm the cups. One minor complaint: when you replace the kettle onto the receiving unit, it does not automatically shut off. It doesn't continue to heat the water, but the display doesn't shut off; at least I haven't waited long enough to see if that will indeed happen. Recommended.

Love it so much, I had to eventually get a second...
Love this kettle. Being able to control the temp for different applications is a huge plus... the design is very appealing, as well (although the button graphics and mechanics will probably evolve to something a bit more stylish and sleek someday, I hope). Only Issue: They seem to have missed the boat on a quality control issue with the current batch. I purchased my first one over a year ago for my Aeropress, and have since purchased a second one for a separate location where I primarily use it for pour-over brew. The second one began giving me the "Hi Err" warning immediately upon first use. I figured that it may have been due to having it plugged in to a power strip, so I moved it to where it could be plugged directly to the outlet. No difference. Before getting too crazy about, I decided to do my research and saw that Bonavita seems to be aware of the issue and are practicing good business ethics by replacing the faulty base for those near sea level who are experiencing this issue. I had to leave a message upon my first attempt to contact their customer support line. Will keep this updated as the resolution unfolds. I'm hoping that they'll be able to refurbish the defective bases and not incur too much of a loss. I love their products, and will continue to highly recommend them. *UPDATE 6/10* After calling and leaving a message, they got back in touch with me later on the same day. They were friendly, and quickly took care of getting my info to send a replacement base. Will update again once the replacement has been received. *UPDATE 6/24* I received an email on 6/23 from UPS with a tracking number. I thought "hmmm... that's odd, I don't recall ordering anything recently...", opened it up, and then put 2 and 2 together... says it should arrive by 6/30. Still a happy customer thus far. And I'm also loving the Harrio scale/pour-over stand that I purchased the same day. Hope this endorsement doesn't disqualify this review... just wanted to share. Will submit a final update once the base arrives and works. *UPDATE 7/1* The replacement base arrived and functions perfectly. However, it is no different in terms of buttons or layout, etc... but it works, and that's all that really matters. Was excited at the possibility of receiving something updated, but it's all good. Thanks Bonavita for taking care of the great customer service.

great kettle but take care
I use this kettle every day with my Bonavita immersion dripper. It perfectly heats the water to 200 degrees and then holds it there (almost) for me to pour a second cup with the dripper. It may drop a few degrees which is no big deal. Within the first couple of uses, I noticed corrosion starting on the inside bottom - so I make sure to empty it completely and dry the inside of both the kettle and the lid - and I store the lid separately, not on the kettle. I wish I could upload a picture here. the corrosion is now a complete circle on the inside bottom, but seems to have stopped. I hope to get a lot of use from this kettle - but time will tell.

Great for yerba mate and green tea!
The majority of the programmable kettles on the market don't go below 180F, but the Bonavita goes down to 140F. Delicate teas and yerba mate do not want boiling water. Mate is great at 140F as you can drink it right away. Green and white teas are best at 150F-160F. Darjeeling is nice at 180F. What I always hated about boiling water on the stove top is that it takes too long and I have to keep checking the temperature constantly. This kettle heats to the exact degree it says it is (checked with digital thermometer) and has the option of holding it there. The "hold temp" function heats to 3 or 4 degrees above your set temperature and then shuts off. Otherwise it would be constantly cycling on and off and the clicking would drive you mad. Joking, as the clicking is not loud at all. Much quieter than my multicooker and rice maker. The 1.0L version is enough water to more than enough for a small gourd of mate (refilled 10 or so times, at least) and just enough water to fill a small french press. The "hold temp" function has to be reset every time you remove the kettle from the base, but this is not a big deal. I'd rather that than the auto shut-off kicking in and letting the kettle run cold. If you're serving yourself, 1.0L is the perfect size. For a couple or family, get the larger size.
