I bought a Field King because of the shortcomings of my handheld sprayers. The belt sold me on the Max. With a pack frame, a belt can make a world of difference by putting the weight on the hips. Empty, the Max weighs 12 pounds. Full, it weighs 45. I set it on a wall to put it on. Before long, I discovered that if I loosened the shoulder straps all the way, I didn't need a raised surface. Once it was hanging loosely from my shoulders, I'd loosen the belt, clip it, and tighten it enough to support some of the weight. Then I'd adjust the shoulder straps and the belt for a comfortable distribution. My first task was to rinse siding as I used a brush and cleaner to remove algae. With a 1-gpm T-jet nozzle, the Max performed a bit like a garden hose. With so much flow, it wouldn't go long without pumping, but pumping didn't take long. Four gallons went a long way. It will spray everything in the tank but the last half cup. I had to keep taking the sprayer off because I was afraid I'd step on the wand if I dropped it to use both hands on the broom-length brush. I discovered that if I tied a shoestring into a loop 16" long and wore it like a necklace, I could suspend the wand by hooking the lever over the cord. The weight of the hose would stabilize the wand so that it would cross my chest and pass several inches from my head. This lets me do a two-handed task such as climbing a ladder while wearing the sprayer. With the adjustable brass nozzle, i could stand on the ground and reach a chimney top about 25 feet high. That reach will make it easier to spray fruit trees and to kill moss on shingles.

Spend the extra $ to get the Max Version you will not regret it. Best manual sprayer I have ever used! Very high quality, no leaking on my back. The brass wand is way better than the plastic wand on most sprayers. Pressure is perfect with the regulator put on. The horizontal tip is my favorite. I recommend buying some blue dye to help mark your spray, it is easy to see with tinted safety glasses. If you want it to work good on the next use, please take the extra 5 minutes and pump some water through it at the end of every use. I only ever fill about 3.25 gallons in mine. The back pack is heavy to pickup and put on, but once it is on your back it feels very light and comfortable. I often have to ask someone to look at my back pack to tell me how much liquid I have left because it will feel real light when you get down under 2 gallons. Your arm will be sore the next day...but it is worth it. I am usually a Stihl guy, but this cheaper and way more comfortable than it. I also prefer it over the Echo piston and diaphragm models, I like both of these better than the Stihl. The Husqvarna models are made by D.B. Smith/Field King except with a higher price tag. *When you get the sprayer it will come with some drops of liquid(water) in it, it is just water left over from when the product is tested at the facility for quality control* I called and asked about it.

I bought this for spraying weeds on my 14 acres. So far I've used it on four different applications. 1. Roundup on the gravel driveway to kill the grass that grows in low traffic areas. The Backpack sprayer allows me to easily move around and apply to individual patches. Compared to the ready to use products with built in sprayers, or a large pump sprayer on wheels, this is much better -- faster, more thorough, more efficient. 2. Trimec on the vines and poison ivy. There's really no alternative for this work, because a tractor or ATV mounted unit wouldn't reach the areas that need spraying. 3. Trimec on the Siberian elm saplings growing everywhere. This has worked well, but I have so many that it would probably be more efficient to use an electric sprayer with a boom and douse the whole area, then go back and individually treat plants that survive. 4. 2,4-D on the lawn. Again, after I got into this I realized I had so many weeds in my lawn I would have been better off to start by spraying the whole lawn, and could have done that with the containers that come set up for hose end spraying. The backpack sprayer would be appropriate for follow up on stubborn areas. As far as the particulars of the Field King unit, my biggest gripe is the upper yoke on the front of the carry straps tends to ride high enough to want to choke me. Otherwise the unit is remarkably effective. The padded hip belt takes a lot of weight off your shoulders, and the ability to pump the handle continuously means you can keep the unit pressurized for a forceful spray, reaching some distance as needed. The pumping also continuously agitates the solution in the tank to keep it fully mixed. I have only used the unit for maybe 4-6 hours of spraying. I don't know how it will hold up, nor do I have any experience with manufacturer support. But I researched the alternatives extensively and this unit seemed to have a good reputation for quality and design. It comes with multiple nozzles but I have only tried the standard brass one. You can now buy herbicides and insecticides in ready to use containers that feature built in electric disposable spray mechanisms that are surprisingly effective. If you have a small job or don't expect to be repeating applications that would probably make more sense than spending $70 for this unit. If you already have an ATV you might want to think about an electric boom or spot sprayer that will fit on that. Also a caution that handling this thing when it's filled with 4 gallons of liquid is a little awkward and might be too heavy for some people.

The Field King Max 190348 Backpack Sprayer (with stainless steel wand) arrived well packaged. Some assembly was required. All necessary instructions and bolts/nuts were included. Depending on skill level, it may take 10-20 minutes to get it ready for action. The pump handle can be mounted on the left or right depending on user's preference. For the money, the build quality is surprisingly good. The materials of construction seem well chosen and feel just right. There are volume graduations in gallons on one side of the tank and in liters on the other. The in-line filter at the top of the wand is a great feature and prevents the tip from getting suddenly clogged (which could lead to frustration as you may have already experienced with sprayer that lack the in-line filters). The harness straps are wide, nicely padded and designed to support the weight of a full 4-gallon tank. The sprayer is comfortable even if worn for an hour. Since this is a one-size-fits-all harness, the designers, obviously, could not accommodate everybody. The sprayer could feel a little too big to users who are size "small" (with the upper buckle being uncomfortably close to throat level) and it seems built to fit users all the way up to size XXXL. Pump lever action requires little effort and spray pattern is consistent for about 10 seconds once the tank is fully pressurized. All connections are well sealed and do not leak. After 3 months of once-a-week use, the sprayer continues to perform flawlessly without any need of maintenance (other than the thorough rinsing with water after each use). Overall, this is a sprayer with consistently good performance at a reasonable price.

Quality is Beauty! When it comes to manufactured products and when the purpose sets the design parameters the quality and attention to detail is what sets products apart one from the other. The quality in this product starts with the company and its attitude towards customers. The first thing I noticed is how many of the answers to questions are from the company. That says they are paying attention and care that their customers get good service. I don't understand companies that treat customers like idiots and are rude or indifferent to them. Half the sale is in the product. The other half is in customer service. The product was shipped quickly and arrived without damage. The first thing I noticed on unboxing it was the beefy hose between the tank and the control handle. Well done. Then the SS wand! Take a look at the built in handle for carrying the unit. Awesome. The clips for storing the wand: Attention to detail. The rotating pump handle that allows it to be stored upright and the snap strap for holding it in place! Someone in the design department was paying attention and that is greatly appreciated. But what "pumps" my enthusiasm meter highest is the harness. Good God, how does anyone sell a Backpack sprayer with anything less than a full harness? How long can you last with wimpy little straps digging into your shoulders as you walk around with 50 to 60 lbs on your back? The people that sell those should be forced to walk around in them for a day! With bricks in the tank. Are you listening Tractor Supply? My first use will be with the red nozzle that puts out a high volume as I spray buttercup and broad leaf weeds in the horse's paddocks. I use a spray that is non-toxic to horses but does a fine job on the weeds. Then the pastures have to be sprayed. They contain Thistle, Polk Weed, Amaranthus [Pig Weed], Milk Weed, Stinging Nettle, all dangerous to horses. I am ecstatic to have a sprayer that will get the job done without being the Marquis de Sade as I walk around ten acres. This is a beautiful product that will be even more so if it holds up to use. I'll be back in 6 to 12 months to report on how robust the unit is and what quirks there may be lurking in wait. I expect the engineers/designers have done there job and it will perform flawlessly. [For those people who get PO'd at the company because you get one that leaks or has another problem, you really need to think this through. First, NO company puts out a complex product that is 100% on 100% of their units. Not possible. Even the much vaunted Apple ships units that have problems. As do all mobile phone, auto, appliance, computer manufacturers, to name a few manufacturing industries. The point is to not give them one star and act pissy but to bring the problem to the attention of the company and see how they handle it. If they give you the run-around, lie to you, are indifferent or rude, that's the time to throw down one star and get pissy. But give them a chance to set things right cause if they do, that is gold, and a company you want in your "Top Companies" list.]

I have sprayed about 4 tanks full of pesticide and herbicide now. I am 71 years old and this fits my back well. Four gallons is the maximum I have carried so far. This is a great sprayer with positive shut off and good selection of spray heads. I do not want a leak when spraying chemicals and so far this unit is great. The pumping action is easy while walking and spraying. I have confidence in the construction quality, unlike experience with other units.

Gets the work done in 1/4 of the time. Over the years I have tried several hand pump and battery operated sprayers and the complaint I have for all is no matter what nozzle or sprayer tip used it coverage is very small. I am a senior petite lady and I find this backpack sprayer so comfortable to use I even took the time to spray the neighbors weeds. I only need to snap the chest strap and it stays in place. Since using I found I can only fill to the 3 - 3.5 gallon mark or it is too heavy for me. It pumps easily and uses almost every last drop in the tank. Easy to fill and clean. I have also used it with bleach to kill the moss on patio and bricks.

I had a Solo backpack sprayer for about 5 years. It worked OK, but consistently had issues, from a bad diaphram to challenges getting it apart (it was virtuallly impossible). This Field King design is simply far superior in every way. I just received it, and the instructions were simple for attaching the handle. The straps are much better fitting and adjustable. The handle on the top of the sprayer to carry it around is fantastically sized and positioned. The ability to take it apart is confirmed--it's as easy as the video shows. I fixed my Solo way too many times before upgrading. I hope they will upgrade their sprayers to keep up with this sort of disruption. Field King has a great value, considering the price is similar, and features are much better. Also, decided to get my daughter into the action. Dont worry, there's nothing but water here, but it's super light yet high-quality. Holding up really well.

I am very pleased with the quality and the performance of this sprayer. I had been using a electric powered sprayer borrowed from a friend so this seemed like quite a step down when I ordered it. The brand I had been using is no longer available. After researching and reading reviews I decided on the Field King Max. When it arrived I was impressed with the apparent quality. The straps are substantial and comfortable and the overall product build looked good. I have only ran 2 tanks thru it so far but am impressed. It has the ability to do a normal controlled spray for weed control but can also adjust and reach the top of most trees. Much more versatile than the sprayer I had been using. Pumping is not nearly as bad as I imagined. Very easy to pump so it is pretty much a non issue. Obviously I cannot attest to the longevity of this product but so far so good. It also comes with an assortment of tips.

I'll admit, I was very skeptical about the back pack type of sprayers. I am used to the carry-around round tank sprayers you have to stop and pump up every few minutes. Not only are do the round sprayers require frequent pumping, they are also cumbersome to carry around. Since I am spraying a 5 acre field and driveway my carrying arms was quite sore after spraying 3 gallons. The Field King was an amazing surprise!!! I filled it with the herbicide, pumped it up and strapped it on. It could put down all 4 gallons of material in about 20 minutes. At a slow walking pace, I could spray around about 1/2 of the area with one tankful. During that time, it required only a slow, steady pumping action to keep the flow rate nice and steady. Carrying 4 gallons (about 32 pounds, plus sprayer weight) can be tiring, but the coverage area is so much more superior/ quicker than the round 3 gallon I had been using. I'm VERY PLEASED with the Field King and hope to get many years of use out of it!!!
