The best way I have found to record from a handheld microphone to my iPhone.
I have tried lots of different things to be able to record audio from a handheld microphone to my iPhone or iPad. Much to no success. This is the only way I have found that it actually works and sound professional. I have a Zoom H4n Recorder which has the XY mics and 2 XLR inputs but I needed one for another microphone in case I was doing an interview and that needed 3 handheld mics. The XY mics of the Zoom are amazing, but you just cannot beat how clean and loud the sound of a handheld mic is during an interview. After doing an interview and bringing in the tracks into the editor, I see the Loudness and clarity was very close between the audio recorded using the Zoom, and the Audio recorded by my iPhone using the iRig PRE with the iRig Rec Premium iPhone Software. They were all recorded with the same XLR cable and Microphone as well to keep it consistent. There seem to be slats on the back of the unit which allows you to strap this onto something. I am planning to use a Velcro strap and wrap it around my iPhone. That being said, I would be careful about using this on the field that often because unlike the Zoom which mounts directly to the top of my DSLR, this will have to be either awkwardly strapped to my iPhone which would be mounted on top of my camera, or not be mounted at all and be placed separately on a table or something. If you are doing recordings indoors or for light duty, this is great. This is portable, clean sounding and convenient. But it is not ruggedly built enough to be taken out in the field as the case is not sturdy enough nor is the wire. I would not rely on just this as my primary recording solution. But for light duty recording for amateurs, studio work, or indoor interviews this is fantastic.

Right out of the box it works great. I put in the battery
Right out of the box it works great. I put in the battery, opened Garageband on my Ipad, plugged in the Irig, plugged in my mic and headphones, and recorded.... no problem. A tiny bit of monitor latency, but not enough to spoil the vibe. Great product that does exactly what it's supposed to do.

A nice solution
This is just what i needed to make my Sennheiser wireless mics work with my i phone. The camera on the iphone 7 is great but audio is such a challenge. This solves that problem if you use it for serious video

Fantastic way to get high quality audio into your iPhone.
Pros: - Does what you need: lets you record to your iPhone from a standard xlr mic - Great battery life - Impeccable quality Cons: - None Other Thoughts: If you're looking for an affordable and easy way to get high-quality audio into your iPhone or android device, this is the perfect device.

Works great
I did not get this for a phone or tablet, but for a low-budget battery-operated PA system. Once I got the adapter cables figured out it works just fine! From TRRS on the preamp, to TRS splitter, to dual-RCA. For this app, the volume knob is the only control in the entire system.

Exactly as advertised. I can now use a nice 3.5mm headset and a Sure SM58 to sing into a recording app on my android phone. Gain control on the side is also great to reduce overload. Super happy with this.

Great mic preamp for remote live interviewing
I use this to help with my broadcast. We use two of these, one connected to a Galaxy S7 that we call into our studio with, and another connected to my interview mic and Galaxy 7S that we use for the live video. The only problem is that I can't monitor the mic output as it does not seem to work with the Galaxy and the live video app we are using - Larix Broadcaster or Wowza GoCoder. If anyone knows the fix, I would love to hear it as it would make my race day pit lane interviewing job so much easier! I use them with a custom Racing Radio built headset.

I can even use the iRig to connect better mics when live streaming with my Mevo
iRig Pre Setup and Review I have been looking for a way to connect my studio-grade mics to my iPhone for a long time. I wanted to find a product that would allow me to connect either a dynamic or condenser mic into my iOS device. Well thanks to IK Multimedia, the search has ended. While I have been able to do this same thing in my studio with a large mixer, I certainly did not want to lug all that equipment around everywhere I went. The iRig Pre eliminates all that bulky equipment and allows me to connect my XLR type microphones to my devices. This even includes my condenser mics that require phantom power or +48 v to work. This has helped me greatly with shooting video remotely. I can even use the iRig to connect better mics when live streaming with my Mevo. This is the first iRig product I have purchased, and I am so happy with it! I will need to buy more products to review for IK multimedia. This device did not require a lot of setup. You simply unbox, install the supplied 9v battery (which is what supplies the phantom power and allows the unit to work properly), and plug in your XLR to your mic into the iRig. Now you can plug into the 3.5mm jack on your device and start recording awesome audio. You can record high quality podcasts or video casts with this device, and its so simple to use. I have been recording audio and making video content for a long time now and I wish I would have used iRig years ago. Definitely 5 stars. Love it!

LOVE this iRig for iPhone Filmmaking
LOVE this iRig! Great for making an iPhone filmmaking rig. I use it with an iPhone 6s Plus with a phantom-powered boom mic, all mounted on a Vello CB-501 Dual Shoe Bracket. To see my setup, search Youtube for my video: "Simple iPhone Filmmaking Rigs (Shot in 4K on iPhone 6s Plus)"

I use it with my both my iPhone 6 and my Canon SL1 DSLR to record audio for video. When using my phone it works well with the Griffin iTalk app. I've used it with my a Rode NT1 mic at a wedding and hooked into the direct out of a digital mixing board. It's probably the least expensive way to get quality audio for indie film making!
