Our 9 year old son is beginning cello this year at school. Rather than rent for $45 a month we decided to buy a beginner model and see if he stuck with it before making a real investment in a quality cello. After reading a lot of opinions about cellos in this price range (most of them negative) I decided to go ahead and get i. After all if it was terrible I could send it back and go another route. It arrived in great condition and our son loved the blue color (he picked it out). The set up was simple enough stings are on it already and only the bridge has to be set in place before tuning. It tuned up well and seems to hold it's tuning. Comes with a nice soft case, wooden bow, extra strings, resin, and stand. For the price I could not be happier. You get exactly what you paid for a sturdy looking student instrument that will most likely be traded for a pricier one in 2-3 years. At this price (I paid $200) it is easily 5 stars.

I've been wanting to learn how to play the cello and finally decided to give it a shot with this student cello. I was nervous because of the negative reviews but decided to try anyway. It arrived well packaged with not a scratch or ding. There was a black fine dust covering the instrument but was easily wiped off with a damp cloth. A few quick Youtube videos showed me how to check the position of the sound post and how to assemble the bridge. I downloaded a free tuner and tuned the strings according to a quick Google search, and I rosined my bow with the help of wikihow. All this for someone who has never played a string instrument and so far I'm off to a great start! The sound is lovely (for my first time running the bow across the strings). All in all, I'm very pleased with my purchase!

Hi there! I am a 64+ year old female. I love learning to play the cello because I love the sound! A few months ago I did order a beautiful teal with red hearts 4/4 cello from another Amazon.com dealers. I love that cello however, I have struggled trying to learn. It is just too large for my 4ft - 11 inch height along with my short fingers, etc., you can imagine right? So, this week this beautiful 1/2 size cello was a gift. The order arrived by way of Amazon.com in 2.5 days. Cecilio CCO did a fantastic job of packing this beauty! She arrived by UPS with zero damage! UPS delivered without holes in the outer box. I examined the inside packing and I will say this... It was packed very, very well and every inch of this beauty was protected! I have named her ("Miss Cello") she looks just like the ones in the music store. She even sounds like the one I tried out at the music store. I'm certain there are differences other than the price, (I could not have afforded the $1000 store price tag) however, she is one fine and solidly made cello. I began playing her after I set up the bridge and placed her strings and tuned up. Oh, Cecilio I like the black cello bag. I can carry my bow and lesson book in the outside zipper pockets. Cecilio CCO, you have earned a 5 star from me! Thanks!

Bought this cello for my 5 YO son, who began lessons 2 months ago. We had originally bought the Grace Cello available via Amazon for $200, but that cello was HORRIBLE (very cheap, looks like particle board, plastic flimsy fine tuners, etc.), so I wasn't holding my breath on this Cecilio Cello. When it arrived, we were very impressed. It was definitely made of real wood (unlike the Grace Cello) and the tuners and fine tuners were great. The Cello kept it's tune well, and, because it didn't cost me an arm and a leg, I let my son play it whenever he want. Unfortunately, he was careless with it today and accidentally let it drop (while he was practicing) onto the hardwood floor. The neck cracked almost completely off the body of the Cello (at the junction b/w neck and body). When I talked to his Cello teacher about it, he told me we should order another one: it's not a high-end instrument, but it has a decent sound for a beginner cellist, particularly one in elementary school. And, hey, it doesn't cost an arm and a leg, which is a wonderful thing when you have to worry about it breaking each time your child plays it on his/her own. We are going to use wood glue and a fastener and rig the broken Cello for my son to use without supervision; the new cello, we will keep in a safe place for 'official' practice (with an adult) and performance only.

Let me start this review by describing who I am. I’m a design engineer with a machining background. I also play a number of other instruments like drums, guitar and some piano/ key board. I also service all of my own instruments, for example, doing all of the bridge and fret work on the electric and acoustic guitars that I own. Now lets talk about the cco-100 cello. I was looking for a cello that was a decent quality for a reasonable price. I always wanted to learn how to play the cello but didn’t want to spend a lot of money. I do understand rich sound with acoustic instruments often comes with a price. (That’s why I own a Martin acoustic guitar.) The cello arrived on time and in excelent condition. It was packed well inside its soft case inside a box with plenty of cardboard padding. As expected, the bridge was not in place and the sound post was rolling around inside the body. (This gets shipped this way so the cello is not damaged durring shipment. ) As I was waiting for the cello to arrive, I researched how to set up a cello, and found a number of good vidios on how to set the bridge and sound post. So when the cello arrived I went straight to work. I first made some tooling to retrieve the sound post and set it according to the video instructions. For me it was a very easy task. Then set up the bridge and tuned the cello. This took me about 2 hours to complete. Rosined the new bow for about 10 minutes. I was able to pull a sound the first time I tried! (Very exciting moment!) After playing for a few days I noticed that the bridge could be re-shaped to improve the bow angles and lower the action of the strings. So I marked how low I wanted to go, removed the bridge and re-carved the top of the bridge. After re- installing the bridge, the bow angles were improved and the action was better. I also changed out the strings and installed the D’adario Prelude string set. This improved the sound a bit especially the D an A strings. These strings bring a warmer tone than the ones that come with the cello. I also want to describe how this cello is made. All the panels are basicly formed laminated sheets of wood (ply wood) and not hand carved out of a solid block. That’s what they mean by “crack proof top”. With this to me even though it is a plywood cello it still has a decent tone for the price. In conclusion, If you are someone like me this cello is an excellent buy. I did have to do some setup work before I could start playing it but for me that was half the fun! If you don’t feel comfortable doing a little DIY work and have a local music store that would set it up for you for a reasonable price, this cello would still be a good buy. If you are looking for a cello that you can take home and play right away it might be a better option to spend more money to buy a cello off the rack at a local music store that is allready set up. Hope this review helps, and happy celloing.

This is an amazing cello for my 6th grader to learn and practice on. I intensely read through all the reviews before buying this, and I did not experience anything negative. I bought my version new and it arrived in perfect condition, with nothing broken. The box and packaging was fairly extensive and kept this in good shape during transit. I had no issues with the soundbar being out of place, in fact it seems firmly secured right where it is supposed to be. I did have issues with the pegs not staying tight, but a small bottle of Peg Drops (<$10) helped them tighten up. I did buy a second set of strings (<$25) along with the cello and i have replaced one string so far in the 3 months of owning this. The wood and seams all are still in good condition after a few months of being carted back and forth, to and from school. I am looking into getting a hard case, but the soft case that came with the cello is still holding out great. it has pockets for all of the equipment you need to carry with the cello. I have been looking at new a new bow to go along with this, but the bow that came with the original purchase is holding up and not losing threads like is mentioned in one of the lower reviews. One thing my kid does every time he puts it away is loosens the tension on the bow for storage and tightens only when in use. A one-star reviewer giving this a poor rating because the bow strands are coming out tells me they simply did not take the time to learn how to store the bow correctly or another reviewer who bought a "used" cello expecting mint condition together gives other buyers the wrong impression of the decent quality that this cello is for a student just starting out.

After months of intense research, and disregarding a number of negative reviews, we purchased the full sized Cecilio CCO-100 Student Cello for our granddaughter, who intends to continue playing in her junior high school orchestra in the upcoming school-year. The cello arrived a few days ago, well protected in a large heavy walled cardboard box. After unpacking, and carefully examining, we found the cello to be in pristine condition. Even though the strings were slack, miraculously, the sound-post was positioned into its proper place. The instrument is stunningly beautiful for its cinnamon (light orange-brown) varnish. After positioning the bridge, and tuning the cello, we found the sound of it very pleasing. Since it was tuned a few days ago, the cello kept the tuning pretty well, but slightly flattening over time due to string stretch. No string breaks so far and hopefully none will break in the future. If we had a complaint, it would be for the bridge being a bit (1/16th of an inch) high, but that we may adjust in the future if needed. The bow, the stand and soft-bag are of a fairly good quality. Overall, we are very, very satisfied with this instrument.

It was awesome to be able to get a cello for my daughter that would fit her needs as a sixth grade beginning cello student without breaking the bank. Honestly, when we looked at rental options from the music stores around here I was afraid I'd have to tell my daughter she couldn't be in orchestra. Luckily I thought of looking on Amazon and found this cello. I know it is not the top-of-the line cello, but who wants to pay thousands for an instrument for a student who may or may not decide to continue with lessons? Her orchestra teacher knew we bought the "cheap Amazon" instrument instead of renting an expensive one, but she said it would be fine for now. The bridge wasn't attached so the music teacher had to attach it correctly for us (because we don't know what we're doing) but once that was worked out it is easy to use. Also, I loved that it came with a stand, along with all the other accessories and spare parts, because that way she can keep it safe at home and we've already had to replace a broken string (she's still learning how to use a soft touch with the bow and not wind to tightly when tuning) Replacements strings can be up to $100 so right there that makes this cello even more of a good deal.

This product deserves a response. I have a 3/4 "ladies" cello made in 1894. But it needs repairs, so I upgraded to a full-size cello with this purchase. My music teacher would definitely refer to it as a very good student cello. I haven't tried out the bow that comes with it because the bow I have was purchased for $250, which is close to the cost of this cello. The sound of this cello is rich and mournful. Utterly beautiful and well worth the price. Feel free to ask me any specific questions.

We purchased this Cello for our son's birthday. He has played the cello for 3 years, so when he finally grew into a full, we decided to make the purchase. He absolutely LOVES it! The (black) cello is just stunning, the pictures do not do it justice. We had to take it in to have the bridge set and the strings put on, but it would rather have had to do that than it be preset and get damaged during shipping. Admittedly, I was nervous purchasing an instrument online, but this product has far exceeded my expectations. It looks and sounds beautiful!
