What is this? Is it an “it?” Oh jyes. It’s an “it.” You must get the “it.” Sorry I was talking to my cat. He goes crazy for this toy! He loves his “it.” Here’s what I like about this toy: •It’s lightweight - this makes it easy for me, the toymaster, to weild. Also, it makes it safe to waggle this toy around the house without fear of scratching walls or knocking things over. (My cat, however, is a different story.) •It’s simple - just a strip of fabric on a plastic wand. There are no feathers for my cat to rip off, chew up, and inevitably choke on. And there are no metal bells or jumprings to catch kitty claws on either. •It’s cheap - With how much my cat loves this toy, I like that it’s not expensive to replace it. The toy is by no means durable. My cat hasn’t managed to tear apart the fabric yet, but he will. And when he does, I’ll be ready. Note: With any wand cat toy, never leave the toy out and around. These kinds of toys should always be put away when not in use. The reason being is that wand toys, by nature, include loose parts (metal, plastic, fabric) that a cat can pretty easily rip off and then swallow. With this toy, I just wrap the fabric tail around the plastic wand and then tuck in the end, then put it on the windowsill. For my cat, that’s enough to dissuade him. For a more mischievous cat, you may need to store the toy in a drawer or something. Overall, I’m very happy with this toy!

This thing is hypnotic. You can make zig-zags and snakey movements. It's so much fun to play with and it gives my baby girl kitteh a great work-out! I can't recommend this highly enough. My baby girl is super hyper in the morning and this is the best way to work off some of her extra energy (wish I could borrow some of hers ha-ha). I have had multiple cats all of my life and this really is the most amazing toy I have ever purchased.

I bought this toy for my cat when she was a kitten nearly 20 years ago. As you can see from the photo it lasted the entire time. I did have to tape the string back to this stick and eventually the stick broke on the bottom. I have had to re-tie the string when it ripped… but as you can see it is lasted 20 years. It does stretch out and my cat never seemed to mind. I'm happy to get her a new one as the old one is a little 'used' by now but she is just as happy with "birdie" #2 as she was with #1. She has a box full of toys she snubs her nose at but is always down to slide across the floor or fly through the air (yes even at 20) to get her birdie. Great exercise for all kitties. Thank you for making a quality toy. UPDATE: I read many reviews after publishing mine and realized that some people may be concerned about their cats health. I just wanted to say that the red rubber thing that holds the string to the stick didn't come off for at least 15 years likely more. Also, the felt fabric never started to rip until it got so stretched out and thin that it couldn't help itself after at least 15 to 18 years also. My cat does not chew or suck on it so it has never been an issue for her digestive health. Also, I found that as it stretches out it gets stronger. Finally, the handle didn't snap at the bottom until year 20. This really is a quality toy but it is an interactive toy. My cat isn't interested in it unless I'm flinging it around. If your cat chews and sucks on toys (mine only does to toys that have catnip) you probably don't want to leave it out. For me personally, even leaving it unattended has never been an issue. She will come tap on my leg when she is ready to play. She has even occasionally carried it her mouth to me too. Responsible cat ownership is always necessary... and this toy is awesome!

Some reviews complain that this toy breaks easily and can be swallowed. Two things: first, the card that comes with the toy explicitly states that this is not a chew toy, that it shouldn't be used as such, and you shouldn't allow your pet to chew it. Second, if you think this toy is dangerous, I guess you can't have any strips of cloth in your house at all! No shoelaces, ribbons, curtain ties, belts, ties, coats with fringe, no purse straps or hoodie strings, no lanyards... you get the idea. This toy is just a strip of cloth on a stick, so if that's dangerous for your cat, so is every other piece of cloth in your house. That is to say- this toy is not dangerous if it's used as per the instructions and written warnings, which should be COMMON SENSE to anyone with a brain (don't let your cat chew this toy). This toy cannot be chewed off by a cat in seconds, it would take quite some time. Not to mention, as others have said, other stick toys come with dyed feathers, little bells and metal loops etc. which make them just as "dangerous" if not more so than the Cat Dancer. With that out of the way, this is a gorgeous toy for a great price that my kitten just adores. Thankfully, she does not chew it, and I would not let her if she tried, but only catches it with her paws before letting go. It makes some snake-y movements that catch her eye, and it's long enough to give her a running workout. Good quality for the price. When we're finished playing, I wrap the toy up and stick it in a drawer so she doesn't have access to it. It's that simple! Buy this toy, you won't regret it.

Here’s the thing about all the negative/choking hazard reviews. All of the owners admit to not noticing or leaving out the toy for their felines to play with unsupervised. Which is more of a fault on their end than the design of the toy. Most toys are a choking hazard or have parts that can be demolished and then swallowed. You are the owner. It is your responsibility to put away toys that your cat could get tangled up in. We all know that wand toys are potentially hazardous which is why most owners don’t leave them out. My cat is a mainecoon. He’s 27 pounds of muscle and fur and finding toys that won’t break under his strength has been a hassle. I’ve even made toys because he’s just to big to play with the normal ones. I bought this because it was cheap and thought I’d see how long it lasted. It is his absolute favorite toy and the only purchased one that he hasn’t been able to break! The flexing wand part really helps and doesn’t snap when he’s playing. If you have larger breeds this is a great toy for them. So, my monster cat hasn’t broken this toy with over three months of use. It shows no signs of wear or tear and I always put it away so he can’t get to it, just like his other wand toys. I find it difficult to believe that a cat of average size could in anyway quickly chew a peice off. I think your cat is safe playing with this toy as long as you are present.

The Cat Charmer is one of the top recommendations I make as a certified cat behavorist and veterinary technician. I find that many cats who are not attracted to most routine toys are easily attracted to this toy. The toy holds the attention of most cats that would otherwise not play with a toy. The array of colors and the way that it is made provides endless amounts of fun for both the handler and the cats involved. I hang these outside of the cat roaming room at the animal shelter and allow volunteers to play with the cats. It has a long reach which worked great for people who were in wheel chairs or were disabled. I find that this toy is very durable and can last for years...even with routine use! Not replacement feathers or parts needed which makes this a cheap toy to use.

This is my second one. It's all of my past and present cats' favorite toy. And, it's fun for me to use to play with them. You can flick it slowly, hang it over the bed edge and pull it slowly. They love to be teased by slow moving flicks. It's made well enough to have lasted 20 years (until my dog got jealous and ate part of the clear rod. That's the only reason I had to order a new one. The 20 year old one looks new (and chewed by my dog). At $4.99 ish it's cheaper than the original site sells it for.

I just received this cat toy maybe an hour ago. WOW!!! What an amazing toy!!! My 10 year old, sedentary, 17 lb Maine Coon, and 5 lb hyperactive Maine Coon went wild for this. It is quiet, and unpredictable...moves like a snake or lizard...and although my kitties can get their claws into it (to "feel the catch") they can't hold onto it. We went upstairs, downstairs, all over the place, and I enjoyed it just as much, watching my kitties having the time of their lives. The only thing that I would like is for the handle to be twice as long. The genius of this toy is not only in the movement, but in the fact that the handle is clear, so the kitties don't really notice that I'm the one controlling it, which makes it even more realistic to them. But, I have to bend over when walking around with it while the kitties chase it, and that's not so comfortable for me. Nevertheless, five stars for one of the best cat toys out there. Kudos to the creators!!!

Edit: at some point, our kitty got way into playtime and somehow either chewed or ripped off the lower 4" of the toy, so we bought another one as backup. Otherwise it's holding up to claws and teeth really well. Usually I buy dangle cat toys that have an object at the end of the string (mouse, ball, etc). But he gets bored by it. Decided on a hunch to buy this toy hoping it would play into his love for string and cords and it worked 100%. All around his favorite toy, even when he's tired of playing, he will try to prevent me from putting it away. Sturdy. Has held up against young cat players so far.

This is my cat's favorite toy. He takes it with him everywhere. He wraps it around obstacles, then makes a game of trying to tug it free. I never really pictured a wand as a solo cat toy, but my cat adores it. Also good for playing with the cat. It has great motion. I like the material, because I'm not worried about feathers or fluff flying everywhere.
