Nice little block of steel
I got this for hammering copper rivets, and I have been very pleased. It's a great size: wide enough to provide a substantial base, but small enough to be maneuverable in case you're working at an awkward angle. There's also something very aesthetically satisfying about a little rectangle of solid steel. It is quite heavy for its size! It came with a coat of oil that I wiped off with a paper towel so it wouldn't stain the leather I was working with, but I do recommend keeping it lightly oiled between uses; I like jojoba oil for steel, but mineral oil would probably work fine too. Since this one doesn't come with its own rubber foot, I've been using a silicone potholder to supply a sturdy, non-slip base, and that seems to work just as well.

Looks great, works great, don't waste your money on a spendy one!
My steel bench came in perfect condition. It was oiled and super shiny. I have not had it mar or scratch any of my jewelry that I stamp. It is the perfect size and weight for metal stamping. No need to buy an expensive rubber base, I use an extra thick mouse pad under it to absorb the blow! The box this came in looked ancient, but that doesn't matter because the item was perfect. I even store it in that box!

Its got oil on it!... lol FOR GOOD REASON!
a note on the Oils, it came with a little oil, AS IT SHOULD!!... Everything is perfect with this block, (people have mentioned its off by a few mm's on measurements) not something i personally care about on this item as it is not build to "fit" anything that needs 100% accurate dimensions (at least for me). on to the reason i gave it 5 stars. 1.smooth, scratch, dent, chip, free 2. 'sharp' 90degree corners, no dings. 3.HARD, i haven't dented it with anything, I'm sure it will if you misuse it or hit it with a sharp point of hardened steel 4. shipped fast, and with amazon prime (free 2 day shipping), it came in the two days it said it would. 5. exactly what i wanted for making rings, banging out home made knives(starting from 3 ft welding steel bands and a "soup can forge") and whatever else i want to make i am confident it will be quite perfect for many more small jobs.

Great value! Very Heavy!
Heavy! Solid 4”x 4” steel. Shipped with an oil coating to keep it from rusting and wrapped in a plastic inside a box. The item should last beyond what my intention is for it namely, hammer hardening copper wire. I think I’ll place some rubber or foam bumpers underneath to protect the work surface.

A Triumph of Design for Functionality
It is rare that a design achieves all of its usability objectives. This is one such rare occasion. It's a simple block of polished steel. Not too large and not too small. Just Goldilocks-right. What could possibly be done to improve such a masterpiece of design? I added a non-skid rubber pad to the bottom to protect my desktop and to prevent it from slipping. You can find this material here on Amazon. Add this to the bottom and you will have achieved usability nirvana.

Perfect for my metal projects and letter stamping
Perfect for my metal projects and letter stamping. I use electrical tape to hold my projects in place, and the tape leaves no residue behind. A few dents from hitting it with the hammer, but that has not affected my use of it. Wasn't greasy or oily when it arrived.

As advertised, oiled to prevent rust.
Covered in oil to protect from rust if you’re wondering why it seems slimy at first. Just dry it off with a paper towel. Works as intended for a small anvil or if you got some weird metal cube fetish. Overall pleased with the purchase, ya weird cube fetish people.

Not a lot to say about a steel block . . .
It is flat, heavy, and the edges are sharp enough to make it a great weapon. It is a little bigger than palm size, so it would be pretty easy to throw as well. As far as pounding things on it, it works *just* like a solid block of carbon steel. I marked one side to be used with textured items and one side to be used with smooth items, that way I'll always have one side that is perfectly smooth. It had a small surface scratch, but it would only make a difference if I was pounding something extremely smooth/shiny right on it . . . and I marked that to be my "textured" side. I may round off one edge to be used for rounding over small items.

Good choice
Looks to be somewhat hardened steel. Heavy enough you won’t have to chase across the bench while you’re working. No scratches or burrs on edges. Good product.

should last a lifetime.
Appears to be ground on all 6 sides and as specified is heat treated. A really good block of steel. When trying to add a inventory number I had to acid etch as hand stamping left to light a indention - very good carbon steel - keep in rust proofing bag/box when not in use and it should last a lifetime.
