jasmine and brown rice works really well. steamed vegetables, reheated chicken thighs and breasts, and dim sum in it too. left rice in it for a good week and it's still edible. I steam heat my foods more than i microwave them since getting this. it takes longer, but i don't risk nuking my food in the microwave. i use 3 cups of rice minimum every time i cook and it helps me for 6 meals. rice cooks perfectly everytime and the pot is a breeze to clean. however, the lid is a bit harder to clean because i have no idea how to detach it. there's also no moisture catch thing that drives excess water, so it just drops somewhere.

I bought a former model from Panasonic (at that time Marketing under a different Company Name) in 1995 in Singapore, it worked great for more than 20 years. I bought then some other stuff in Germany, which I never got comfortable with. Now what to do? I went back to Internet to search for the actual Panasonic models, unfortunately I couldn't get one in Geramany or Europe, so the US were the only possibility. OK then: - I ordered this model via Amazon - I paid Import duties - I had to buy a voltage Transformator, to Change from the US 110V to the European 230V After having it used now for several times, I only can say: The efforts were worth it. The only reason why I reduced the rating "value for money", is, that I'm missing two functions, which my old model featured: - display to show remaining time from 15 min before cooking end onwards - sonic Alarm for 5 sec when cooking was finished Otherwise, it's just perfect for us. (sorry for my germanized version of English)

Let me start by saying this: I suck at cooking rice. This rice cooker, however, makes it super easy to always have fantastic tasting rice provided that you plan ahead a bit. Both the white rice and the brown rice setting work great, with white rice usually taking 20-30 minutes and the brown rice taking significantly longer (1 hour pre-cook soak, then about 1.5-1.75 hours to cook after the brown rice cook mode has been started). In my experience with the SR-DF181 so far, I've found that taking the time to rinse/wash your rice thoroughly prior to cooking is very important (also, as the manual mentions, don't wash the rice in the cook pot... the dry rice is pretty abrasive) and if you have heavily chlorinated water or water with any sort of strong taste/smell, I'd recommend filtering the water you'll be cooking the rice in with a Brita pitcher or equivalent first so that the taste of the rice ins't impacted. For those complaining about poorly cooked brown rice, I think it may have something to do with the type of rice being used (i.e. there are probably some assumptions being made on the part of Panasonic). I've only experimented with Nishiki brand medium grain white and medium grain brown rice in the cooker thus far (both are a California grown Japanese style rice) and haven't had any issues. Quick cleaning tip: after emptying the cooked rice from the cooking pot, leave the pot out or cooker open so that the residue in the pot can dry out. It's a lot easier to clean when you do this because nearly all of the residue in the pot will peel right off and can be thrown away. If you just toss the pot into a sink full of water for cleaning, then the moistened residue will become very glue-like and hard to remove.

In Hawai'i we eat tons of rice... I'm eating healthy so decided to buy this model which has a special button to cook brown rice. Honestly I haven't attempted brown rice yet...my mom cooked Japnese rice (short grain calrose and the consistency was perfect!) The unit is a bit bulky, I'm use to a more upright model...my last panasonic was awesome, it had a handle and made it easy to take to the beach...this one is a bit more fussy and formal than my last all in one cooker. I love Panasonic rice cookers and grew up with the "National" brand ones, I think Panasonic bought National. I hope it holds up, it's the fanciest rice cooker we've ever had in our household, so far so good and for the money, we are very pleased :) Oh and shipping was free...which means a whole lot, since things take FOREVER to get here...it came in 3 days total from order to delivery!!! AWESOME!!!

So I have had this cooker for five years now, and I have to give my seal of approval. We eat rice about twice a week, or more, and this has performed the intended function perfectly every time. Perfect rice every time. It is quite large, but most rice cookers of this size (ten cup) are pretty large, so there's that. Easy to clean, super easy to use, and reliable. I'd buy it again, but after five years I still don't have to. :)

Previously I have had more expensive Panasonic Rice Cookers so was a little concerned that the lower cost of this one would raise some problems. Happily I can say that although it has fewer buttons than the other models it works just fine. Makes delicious rice and I am pleased to give it a 5* rating.

I received this rice cooker as a gift (from someone who shares my Amazon account occasionally), and I couldn't be happier with it. I'm very bad with rice-to-water ratios but this cooker somehow does great even if I mess up. Best of all, it's super fast--espeically with white rice. The "keep warm" function is so convenient, and I never end up with burnt rice that's impossible to clean off the pot. In fact, I usually only have to give the pot a quick rinse when I'm done, and it's good to go.

Wash and rinse rice. Measure rice, add appropriate amount of water, and place in cooker, close the lid, turn the device on, select type of rice and press. Wait until done, and serve! Simple, easy, rice cooking is the benefit of this device. I highly recommend this rice cooker for anyone who prefers perfect rice. I also recommend a rice washing bowl, and a cypress rice cooling bowl. Tamaki gold rice in this rice cooker, if washed properly is spectacular. If you want to make rice like the sushi chefs, these are the things you need. I was not compensated in any way for this review!

I love this rice cooker!! Its super easy to use! The rice comes out nice and fluffy, it keeps it warm after it's done cooking and its easy to clean. I only use the spatula/spoon to fluff and serve the rice. It brings it's own measuring cup, so its easy to know ho much rice and water to use. Once you add the rice and water, close the lid, press the button and let it do it's magic! I got my mom one as well and she can't live without it!! I definitely recommend it to anyone!!

I love this steamer/ricer. It also can be used for other usages. Perfect product for people with limited areas in kitchens also. Perfect for singles or just two's .... I would recommend this for everyone. Great wedding gift or even a High School graduation gift for someone who is off to college. Easy to clean and use. Perfect!!!
