VERY GOOD POLL SAW!

GREAT POLL SAW! I am in construction, so I know my tools. I was skeptical about this poll saw. Received it the other day and took it out to my property to trim the oak limbs to make way for a 13ft tall RV. This worked perfect. Cut 6" oak limbs, NO PROBLEM. Very sharp blade. Easy to operate. Be sure to order the bar oil with it. A chainsaw without bar oil will only last a few uses before it starts to fall apart. Also order another chain with it, $11, so you will always have a spare on hand. I hit a rock when cutting down low and ruined the chain, had a back up so no problem. You can always sharpen the chain with a file, but takes time and expertise to do it properly. All in all for the price this product is undervalued in my opinion. Its not a commercial tool, but a very good around the house tool.

Confessions of a chain saw virgin

This was my very first foray into the world of chain saws. Yep, I was a chain saw virgin. Here are some of my observations from a first time user: 1. This pole chain saw does not include the oil required. Buy a quart when you make your chain saw purchase 2. The instructions say to make sure you have heavy duty gloves. This wouldn’t hurt, but if you are careful, I’d say you can get by without them. However, smoke ‘em if ya got ‘em 3. I would have at least a medium duty 50’ outdoor extension cord available for use 4. Assembly time was less than 30 minutes even though I had no prior chain saw experience 5. Although the instructions tell you multiple times about making sure you install the chain going in the correct direction, it would be pretty darn hard to screw that up since it comes with the chain already wrapped around the guide bar in the right direction. Unless you separate the chain from the guide bar before assembling, you really shouldn’t have to worry about this 6. When assembling the chain/guide bar to the sprocket & motor, make sure you don’t over-tighten the tension screw. The chain should be a little on the snug side, but not so much that you cannot move the chain back and forth by hand after you’ve attached it, replaced the sprocket cover and adjusted the tension. This might be the only time you would really need a glove, but you could also use a thick rag or something as well 7. You don’t need a lot of oil, so be careful not to overfill. The oil reservoir fills up quickly 8. I read that some owners seemed to have a problem with oil leaking from the cap while the chain saw was in use. I never encountered this problem 9. The chainsaw worked quite well. I was cutting through limbs anywhere from ½” to about 3” thick. It sliced through all of these with relative ease 10. This chain saw is not overly loud 11. I would recommend this pole chain saw to new or experienced users

They stand by their product and customer

We purchased and have used this great pole chain saw since August 2013. We've never had any trouble with it at all, and it has done some tough, dirty work cutting macadamia tree wood which is a very hard and sappy wood. This week, in June 2017, we lost the plastic sheath that covers the chain end of the saw - not a good thing if you are klutzy like me. So, I tried purchasing a replacement hardware kit from Amazon, but the company would not ship to Hawaii. Yesterday, I contacted Sun Joe directly and asked for help. Help came that very same day - emailed instructions on how to register my product (which I'd done when it arrived in 2013) and then told them when it was done. Today, Sun Joe mailed out the replacement hardware kit to me at no cost! Now, how's that for great customer service?! Needless to say, I'm pretty happy with them. The person who helped me was Karina in Customer Support.

Great tool

I replaced my other pole saw with this one. The other one was a little cheaper (at Home Depot) but the price difference wasn't so great as to make it a much better deal. I wish I'd bought this one originally but I'm glad I have it now. Why? Some things I particularly like about it compared to the other one. 1. The adjustable length of the pole. The other one is fixed at 9 feet. There are a couple of reasons adjustability is a very nice feature. First, what others have pointed out - use the shorter length to cut up the limbs you've cut down. It's much easier than standing back nine feet to do it. But, an equally important reason is that it can be adjusted easily while using the saw. I use it mainly for palm trees and oaks. When I'm on the ladder, I don't always need or want the saw at its full length. There's about ten pounds hanging on a 9 foot pole and it gets heavy quickly. And, sometimes I'm closer to what I want to cut. Twist the lock on the pole, collapse it a little, tighten the lock and start cutting again. It's very nice. 2. A major reason I decided to change saws was that the one I have infuriated me with the chain constantly jumping the track. I tightened it and loosened it and tried everything I could to get the tension right. It didn't matter - if the saw twisted a little while cutting the chain popped off. That meant removing the cover, adjusting the chain, replacing the cover and going back to work - five to ten minutes of cursing the whole time. I just finished trimmng several palm trees and an oak with this one and it did not jump once. Tensioning the chain is very simple and done with the cover on - just turn a screw. 3. The oiler on the other one seems to feed oil too fast - the motor always is oily and it runs down the pole. This one doesn't and keeps a light coat of oil on the chain. The other one put too much oil on the chain with the result it jams because the saw dust gets oily and clogs the sprocket - that may be why it jumped the track. 4. It cuts faster - that may be simply because it's a new chain so I can't say it's different in that respect from the other. 5. It feels sturdier. The pole definitely is stronger. There is absolutely no twisting or bending. The other one doesn't really "bend" but it does flex. This one is very stiff. So - I'm glad I have it and recommend it hightly.

I've used a Stihl for years, but needed a lightweight polesaw for trimming. This saw is excellent. PROS --It's lightweight (NOT cheap-feeling) --Easy to assemble --Easy to use --Easy to adjust --There are nearly a dozen notes about chain direction, just in case someone is not familiar with how to install it. In fact, it even comes with the chain zip-tied in the proper orientation on the bar. --Extension and retraction is fast and simple. A quick light turn of the locking collar is all that you need. --The extension pole is rigid and at full-reach doesn't wobble. --The cord lock is a great feature. Use it because you will unplug it while using if you don't --Chain is sharp and it cuts well. Note: Undercut branches to prevent binding and if the branch takes the saw with it, let it go and guide it down, don't force it. --It uses regular bar and chain oil, nothing special. Keep an eye on the oil level, it uses it pretty quickly, which is OK! --Other reviews mentioned leaks of which I've had none and it hangs in the garage with the bar down, full of oil. Make sure the oil-cap string stays out of the threads, that could cause a problem. --Chain adjustment is easy, same as a regular chainsaw. It will loosen a LOT after the first couple of cuts. CONS --The trigger lock takes a bit of getting used to and I'm not a fan of that setup, but it works --It would be nice if there was a slot or something in the handle for the adjustment wrench Overall I'm very happy with the saw. The only unknown is durability and longevity, but if it's registered I think there is a 2 year warranty.

DO NOT LISTEN to the chumps bashing this saw! I just finished yardwork out back and this saw perfomed beautifully! There was one derail when I got caught in a bunch of dead palm leaves- used the provided tool to get back on track on 3 minutes problem solved! I had an ugly palm like tree 6 feet on the outside of my fence… At least 4 inches in diameter and we knocked it down with the saw in extended position! I also cut down some other thick branches in no time flat… I have a buddy who also bought one of these recently and had the same stories to tell! It works so smoothly, when I was finished with my yardwork I was looking around for more stuff to cut down! I finished early and I'm sitting enjoying the view of my work with a cigar and a glass of wine. You can believe the people who are raving about this tool!

VERY powerful and SO happy with it!!!!! Just make sure you keep the oil filled up!

From experience - READ THE INSTRUCTION MANUAL BEFORE USING THIS!!! It can mean the difference between thinking this thing sucks or getting to experience its awesomeness! (I had to learn from experience!!!) I can not tell you how happy I am with this!!!!!! I learned that you HAVE to follow the instructions and constantly make SURE your oil level is high enough because if it's too low it does GREATLY effect its ability to cut. I had let my oil get too low without knowing and started thinking it was a piece of junk but then when I realized it was low and refilled it and it was back to being SUPER powerful :). I used this little baby on VERY thick three limbs and it WORKED!!!! I LOVE IT!!! I became sick with power and want to cut everything now muahahahahahaha Oh and the instruction manual is very very good and simple and I do recommend buying the chain oil and extra chain if you're doing some serious thick tree limb cutting - you need them!

Light and Effective

This is the 4th electric chain saw I have owned. What most reviewers have not mentioned is the Sun Joe is designed as an extension chain saw. All the other electric pole Chain Saws I have owned are literally a chain saw put at the end of a pole, and you can remove the pole and use it as a chain saw. That makes the competitors very heavy. The Sun Joe is not made to come apart and the electric chain saw is an integral part of the unit. This makes it much lighter than anything I have used before.... making it easy to maneuver and get to the places that are difficult to maneuver a heavier competitive unit When I first opened the box I felt like there is no way this is going to work any good. It is much smaller and lighter weight than what I was use to. But I was amazed how well it cut through the large branches. The thickest branch I cut was probably about 5" in diameter and it went through it like butter The only negative is that the chain did get jammed once and came off. It was tangled and I have to use a vice and hammer to get it straightened out again. When I put it back on, I made it tighter than the original time I assembled. I no longer had any problem even after 2 hours of using

If you need a pole saw, this is the one to get!

I've used this Pole Chain now for about 2 hours of trimming trees. It works great, seems very durable, and does everything I've expected very well. I selected this item based primarily on the positive reviews on it, plus it's weight was a little less than some others. Believe me, for a old f*** like me, having even 1 pound less weight on the end of the 10' or 12' extended pole is significant! The only negative I can come up with is that it actually delivered 5 days later than it was originally scheduled - but I can deal with that for a good quality product.
