Shock Prevention

I purchased a SOCKiT Model 200 to keep my bird bath de-icer (Allied Precision 300) connection dry. Both found on and purchased from Amazon. The SOCKiT box is doing it's required job. It is a simple thing but an important one. When hooking up outdoor electrical devices such as lighting/Christmas lights, speakers, fountains, etc., to extension cords, connections can not ever be exposed to moisture. That means rain, sprinklers, snow, ice, dew - all kinds of moisture can produce shock hazard. I purchased an Amazon "used"/ refurbished SOCKiT at a discount. It had a small crack but was otherwise fine. I glued up the crack with Gorilla Glue & waterproof tape. I am pleased with this purchase and would recommend this product. Note: The SOCKiT Model 200 is the black box behind the bird bath. I have weighted it down with stones and a shell.

Amazing.

This thing is amazing. I was so sick of taping up the cord ends and untaping them after them after Christmas and dealing with all the sticky stuff the tape left behind . The boxes them self are constructed very well and the cords are easy to install through the exit hole with the included clips. Once your cables are all in the box putting the top on is very easy. all you have to do is clip it on and you're good. All in all these things saved me time, energy, tape and sticky hands.

Adapted for a special use...

While I purchased this box to protect electrical cords, I am not using it the traditional way, that is, sitting on the ground in my yard. Here was my dilemma. I have an old electrical box on the side of the house near my well water pump and water softener. It has those flip covers that protect it from the weather when nothing is plugged in. The plugs we use are heavy duty and meant for outdoors. I just purchased a new water softener. It came with a very large AC type plug. I needed to be able to protect this plug from the weather. I have a single box or one-gang receptacle. It had been installed horizontally, not vertically. When I plugged the AC plug into the bottom half of the receptacle, it sticks out quite a bit, on the right side of the plug. You can find what is called "While in use, weatherproof covers" specifically made to cover and protect an outdoor receptacle that covers not only the receptacle, but a plugged in cord. I thought a 2-gang cover would work, but it was still not big enough, and no one seems to make '3-gang' covers. Needing to think creatively, I googled for 3 days before I stumbled on this "SOCKiT BOX". After checking my measurements, I bought the Large box. When it arrived, I measured and cut out the bottom of the box. Using 100% silicone caulking, I caulked around the edge left after I cut out the bottom of the box. I made sure I had plenty of caulk on the edge before I fit it over the receptacle and stuck it to the wall. After it dried I fit the 2 cords down over the gaskets and attached the lid. About 3 hours later we had a thunder storm. Next morning I went out and after removing the lid, discovered everything to be dry inside the box. I did buy an extra box, as these say they are meant for temporary use when you have a bunch of items in your yard that need to be plugged in to an electrical strip, and kept dry. As we live in S. Florida, I want to make sure I had a back up in case the heat and tropical wet degrade this box in the future. For now, it looks great and best of all, it's dry!

Great solution for outdoor above-ground pool

Our problem was that we needed a way to have a large GFC plug on a short electric cord from a pool pump connect to an outside socket on our house 40 feet away on a timer. We needed a way to connect the plug to a grounded extension cord that had to be water-resistant - from both any rain and splashes from the pool. This solution is reasonably unobtrusive in it's grass green color and size. It utilizes a combination of an overhang on the lid, electric cord guides and rubberized seals to minimize any potential for water to enter the box. The cord / GFC plug is connected inside the box and the lid just seals on top. Although we do have earwig bugs that appear to like the shade in the box, we have not had any issues with water entering even after weathering (pun intended) multiple thunderstorms and torrential rain. A simple solution, though it works well. On reflection we likely could have picked the smaller size, though we are now utilizing the larger capacity for multiple outside cords and believe this will work well for outside decorations for the holidays. Good value and solid performance

I have bought several of these to use for holiday lighting connections and even to weatherproof some home-made lighting controllers. They are not as heavy-duty as I expected, but they are solid-enough to hold-up in most applications, and for the price a really good deal. Previously I was using tupperware type containers, but these are much better - they have built-in ports for the wires and easy snap lock closure. They are not waterproof, but work fine to protect the contents from even a driving rain. Highly recommend.

Good dry box for electrical plugs.....

Got 3 of the SOCKiTBOX Model 200 to wire up some landscape lights. It's a good size, but a little tight for what I was using it for. As you can see in the pictures. I had to drill out the zip tie holes. I like it and order another one for a different location.

Excellent construction and weatherproofing. They are designed for one purpose and do it well.

I bought several of these boxes for our Christmas light display. They are constructed well: thick plastic, snapping hinges, flexible molding at entry ports, and an overhang to minimize the amount of water that reaches the entry ports. Our outdoor outlet has a GFCI breaker which trips repeatedly during bad weather with our light display. The normal outlet stakes do not seem able to keep enough water out during the rain, causing all our lights to turn off. These Sockitboxes are a huge improvement and I can't see how any water could reach the electrical outlets now.. If you also have problems with xmas lights and a GFCI breaker, take a look at this product: Tower Manufacturing 30439005 3-Wire GFCI Outlet Adapter, Yellow I use these in combination with the Sockitboxes to contain and separate weather related tripping. I attached photos of the big and medium boxes, one inside the other and a measuring tape for reference. Having both sizes, I'd recommend just spending the extra $3 per box and getting the big ones. It gives you more room to angle your plugs and adapters so the cable can go through the entry port without strain.

Does what it is designed to do very well

We have a small bird "sanctuary" outside our den that has lights on our bottle brush tree, a spot light and a fountain using 2 timers and extensions cords and adaptors. It works great at keeping all the connections dry.

Need a rugged waterproof outdoor power distribution box?

A great weather weatherproof electrical distribution box! I really don't know how to review a weatherproof box! So this is what I've subjected it to: Hurricane IRMA! It's purpose was to contain an indoor surge protected power strip for multiple electronic battery chargers for outdoor agricultural gas powered machines.It was exposed to the Eye-wall for 90 minutes after the rest of the hurricane approached then left. I had forgotten about the box and chargers, and it got tossed around quite a bit. Power was maintained the entire time by a standby generator. Next day, the chargers were still charging, the SOCKITBOX 330 was about 20 feet away wrapped around a large fallen tree branch, upside down. Moved it back to the pad and opened it: The Aukey power strip was happy, the inside was dry. Still in service today. What more can I testify to?

Great addition

This really works great.It's totally waterproof-mine is out in the open and I get torrential downpours that sometimes last for hours,and there is plenty of room inside for a power strip and it can also accommodate plug in timers.This review is for the large box,but it got posted under the small box heading. I also purchased the small box,but found it was too cramped inside to be of much use.It was also missing one of the 2 closure strips that hold down the lid to keep it waterproof..I fixed this with 2 spring clamps from Harbor Freight.This box really doesn't work with heavy outdoor 3 prong cords.Get the medium or large box.
