I got that game about 1 week ago and I already passed 12 hours on it. I am around the middle of the game. I have a hard time to leave the game. It's not my number one game in the average time on it. I am above 30 years old and I cannot believe that I can pass that much time on a game. I usually play about 3 hours per week but on this one 4x that time yet. This game looks a lot like the old Sega Genesis Shinning Force series. Maybe this bring to me good old souvenir and this is why I like it so much. The only thing that I do not like is the dialog -- characters talk too much in my opinion. However, the in-game tutorial is great, and the battle become harder and harder which require more thinking before fighting. This is the second game (after Zelda A Link Between Worlds) that I buy above 35$. So far, it worth it.

Great game. It has awesome gameplay that is very unique. It can either be a very easy to win strategy game for people who just enjoy a fun play-through, or it can be a difficult but rewarding strategy game where every move has to be calculated and character deaths are permanent. The story is amazing with good dialogue and stunning cut-scenes. For those who are Fire Emblem regulars or returning players to the series this game is a must play. For those just starting with the series, this game is a great place to start since it is very player friendly.

Right now, this is the best RPG for the 3DS, my personal favorite 3DS game, and probably the best Fire Emblem game as well. I bought the 3DS to play this game. Alongside peers like Super Mario 3D Land and A Link Between Worlds, It is in the top 5 games on the system. This is a turn based, chess-type game where your soldiers are your "pieces" that can attack or use abilities depending on position on the field. The story is interesting, with a fantasy setting and characters that may become friends, marry, and even have kids, depending on how you match them. This mechanic also modifies and creates new soldiers in your army. If your soldiers die, its either restart the level or they die forever, and no one wants to lose a favorite soldier! The difficulty and investment into your army gradually draw you in and encourage you to hone your strategies. If you are a perfectionist and must do everything on the hardest difficulty level, may God have mercy on your soon-to-be-tormented soul. To say it simply, this should be the first purchase for an (J)RPG fan with a 3DS.

I wasn't interested in playing Fire Emblem at first--I had ordered this because my husband wanted to play it. He kept insisting that I try it, so I did. Then he never saw our 3DS again. The end.

Holy God, this is one of my favorite and most played games. Right behind Pokemon Y (and only because of breeding) this game clocks in at one of my favorites. If I had to go live in a cave for 5 years with only two games, FEA would undoubtedly be one of them. To talk about the game, there are a crap ton of little improvements. But one of the things that really pops out at me (quite literally actually) are the gorgeous 3D sprites. I'd been waiting since Radiant Dawn to get another Fire Emblem console game, but this kind of takes away that need (although don't get me wrong, I'd love to see a console version on the Wii U) with the gorgeous graphics. The other main thing I'd like to point out in this, are the support conversations, they're absolutely hilarious. Sometimes I'll replay the game just to watch the support conversations again. While the plot is a bit dry (at least in comparison to Radiant Dawn, my favorite), the support conversations make up for it in a tremendous way. And on a similar note, the DLC is hilarious as well. While it is in no way mandatory to get the DLC to have a good time, it really adds to the post-game experience, and I would highly recommend it to people considering it. One final thing I'd like to say, is that Spotpass is awesome. I love occasionally turning on my 3DS to find a new team on the map to fight, and recruit their leader (assuming I win). It's an awesome random element that was just added, and Intelligent Systems really deserves a thumbs up for it. All in all, you should definitely get this game.

This has to be one of my favorite Nintendo games of all time. The social links are meaningful and add so much to the experience. The skills you have in the first generation pass down to your kids, then later on they’re fighting along with you. It is done REALLY well. The characters are mostly all likeable and the battle system is addicting. Maps are challenging enough and you can customize the difficulty accordingly. You have the option of the regular Classic mode where you will lose your characters when their health drops down to zero. You can also choose Casual mode, which will let you keep all your characters. Overall it’s a really fun game you can play for hours on end.

This was my first Fire Emblem game since Game boy and I was so impressed and engrossed in the game that it honestly changed my life (gamer wise). I wouldn't have considered myself a huge Fire Emblem fan until I played Awakening because it convinced me to replay the older games I used to love and Fire Emblem really has a place in my heart now. The characters are loveable and the story is good. Even if there are a few really confusing parts it is one of the best games I've played in a long time. And I still replay it to this day.

I only knew Fire Emblem from Super Smash Brothers. I was interested in the FE franchise but I did not know where to start. I read some really good review for this game so I started with Awakening. I love everything about this game. If you like strategy and tactics, the gameplay is a lot of fun. I particularly liked the permanent deaths; when someone dies you typically cannot play as that character for the remainder of the game. I have heard some criticism about the story. But, I found it interesting and I really loved the characters. Please understand that I have never played an FE game before and I am not overly familiar with anime (I think the game art style would be considered anime). Additionally, the inclusion of animated cutscenes was a welcome surprise. This game is a fun tactical challenge for when you are on the move or at home.

This game is amazing. Simply amazing. My first experience with Fire Emblem was playing through the whole Fates series - which I loved - and one of my friends told me that Awakening is the better game. I was very skeptical because of how much I enjoyed the Fates games but once I sat down and played through Awakening, one thing became clear: he was right. The story is more focused than Fates, the difficulty feels more balanced the animations and overall aesthetic feel are on par with the Fates games as well. If you're a Fire Emblem fan, this is your game. If you're interested in trying a Fire Emblem game for the first time, this is the one I'd recommend starting with. I've played very few games that have such an entertaining and attention-keeping story while also supplying a unique and fun gameplay experience. My only regret when it comes to this game is that I can't play it for the first time again.

This is by far one of the best games I've ever played. I never get bored playing it over and over again LIKES 1) Engaging and interesting plot I like how the plot is not romantically centered, though most characters (including yourself) can choose to develop relationships and even marry by building through the support conversations with characters. The plot makes sense (for the most part) and it felt like I was part of this different world. There are supernatural and fantasy elements to the game, so you may have to maintain a suspension of disbelief to really enjoy this. You can also play as either man or woman, which is great - and you can customize them to, with a limited number of selections of hair style, hair and color, height, strength and weakness, and voice. A small and potentially overlooked gem of the game is its tutorial. I appreciate how well-integrated the tutorial is. This is the very first Fire Emblem game I've played (it's an extensive series that spans almost 3 decades since its inception in 1990), and even I was able to quickly learn and understand the turn-based and almost 'chess-like' strategy format. While there is that specific portion of the game set aside purely for the tutorial, the game also continues to ease you into the complexity of the its different features. 2) Voice acting I've never really played games in which voice acting was restricted to a limited number of specific phrases for each character, but I was pleasantly surprised by how these same phrases could be used in different nuances based on the situation and context of what the characters are saying in the text box. They are usually used appropriately, so I don't feel awkward or any second-hand embarrassment for the voice actors, and I even laughed a couple times. I certainly believe that the voice acting added another layer of depth to the characters that I did not expect. 3) Strategy You have so many options and approaches you could take with each battlefield you enter. Each character has certain ranges of movement, and points of attack. There are all kinds of different items and weapons that you can use as well. POTENTIAL DISLIKES: 1) Not open world - each stage of the plot is contained by a specific battlefield Once the game/story is completed, it's finished. There is no post-story continuation or side stories that you can play. However, your data from the main story gets saved, and you can accumulate more data (usually conversations/marriages with different characters). The movement of the main story is also restricted by the specific battlefields, though there are side story points you play. 2) Slightly complicated As much as I was able to get into this game, I did have some trouble figuring out all the intricacies of the game. It's amazing and challenging with the numerous options you have in upgrading characters and the different approaches you can have with each battlefield. However, once you get the hang of it, you're all set. I personally enjoyed the challenge. Overall, the game had a great balance of voice acting, plot, character development, cut scenes, special moves, and strategy. The background music and soundtrack is also bomb.
