This monitor boasts a lot of pros, however, there are a few things to be wary of before purchasing. PROS: 144hz (Keep in mind your computer must have a DisplayPort input to access this feature) 1080p Full HD Variety of adjustable picture settings (Took about 5 minutes to find the colour and brightness I liked) The entire monitor is very versatile. It can be rotated 45 degrees left and right, elevated up and down, and be pitched forward and back CONS: Piano Black EVERYWHERE (Beware of scratches) Sound quality is sub par (But when you're purchasing a gaming monitor, it's really assumed that you'll make use of headphones) Overall Score: 9/10 Overall, to the average gamer, this monitor is the best bang for your buck. It's fast refresh rate is fantastic for modern games and truly shows your rigs full potential. Its colour settings provide a variety of customization. The monitor's ability to be angled and adjusted to your liking makes it very versatile when finding a location for it. However, it is important to note that this monitor is almost entirely piano black. This will inevitably cause scratches for most. Also, the sound quality is average at best. Finally, don't make the mistake of buying this monitor if you don't have a DisplayPort input. Not having one of these will undermine the monitor's prime selling point, its 144hz refresh rate.

The Asus VG248QE is THE best gaming monitor for the price due to its affordability, features, and build quality. This monitor is, in my opinion, the perfect size to meet the needs of someone who plays multiple genres of games. I play a MOBA, an MMORPG, and various other titles of different genres off and on and the monitor is the perfect size for all of the gaming that I do. The screen itself is incredibly sharp and offers great viewing from most angles. As is the case with TN panels, you really need to be sitting in front of the monitor for the best experience. If your situation differs, you need to consider paying up for an IPS panel - the cost is significantly higher but viewing angle problems will no longer be present. As a side note... to confirm my theory that this monitor is the perfect gaming monitor at the right size, I have seen it all over professional gaming events on Twitch. The 144hz difference, in my opinion, was incredible and well worth the cost over a traditional PC monitor. You will notice from the moment you set the refresh rate in Windows that your mouse moves more smoothly like butter and you gain so many more frames of vision that you were losing before! One thing that is not explained well out of the box is that you must use the included dual-link DVI cable to achieve the maximum refresh rate of 144hz and a setting in Windows needs to be set as it will default to 30hz or 60hz. I can't recommend this monitor enough to all PC gamers requiring quick reaction times (any game online). Note: I performed independent research and asked gamer friends for their advice before purchasing and was not provided a review copy. I have no involvement with Asus though I am very impressed with them now.

I had an Asus 21 inch 60Hz monitor for five years before I upgraded to this. I game quite a bit and have never owned a monitor this nice. I have been slowly upgrading my weakest computer computers to some nicer spec gear and this finally hit my list. I have to say I have never used a 120 or 144hz monitor before this and the difference is like night and day to me coming from a 60hz monitor. I was on a budget when I initially built my computer but of all the components I cheaped out on I must urge you not to do that on your monitor. This monitor was only about 100$ more than the one I initially bought but it is easily worth 3x that in price compared to a standard 60hz monitor. I really didn't think there was that much of a difference until I tried it but I am never going back to a 60hz monitor. I thought my video card was just more dated than I wanted to admit but in reality I just couldn't see what my video card could actually do because my monitor wasn't fast enough to display it. I mainly play FPS games and there is no screen tearing anymore and I feel like I can respond faster to things on my screen since I can actually see them faster. This was one of the best single component computer upgrades I have ever bought. Also my original Asus monitor didn't fail, I just wanted to upgrade. I have had no issues with that one for over five years and this one has been functionally perfectly as well. I love the brand and would easily buy this product again or recommend it to anyone.

1) Screen tearing still occurs: Having fps lower then 144hz will cause tearing. Occurs in some games only noticable if you focus on looking for the screen tear. Remember this is hardware before gsync and freesync. Solutions: Lower framerate in game to match fps. Or get used to it since its hard to notice 2) Sound is lower but not muffled: Tested on 5 devices from consoles to computers, sound will be 25% quieter after a connection is active. Will fix itself after 30mins+. Solution: dont use built in speakers. 3)Color: the color is not the best. I have no problem using the colors out of the box. Solution: use monitor color settings and graphics card color to change color. Ive moved to a 1440p monitor. But the VG248QE is a great monitor to get into 144hz gaming. Once you go above 60hz you cannot go back. I recommend to buy a gsync or freesync monitor at 144hz if you have the $

This Asus monitor, for the money, is one of the best on the market right now for a PC or Apple computer. If you are buying this for your gaming console you will only be using the HDMI connection and losing the well-defined picture this monitor is capable of reproducing, especially with a higher Refresh Rate. -- Comparison Statistics -- :: Response Time (GTG): 1 ms. :: Maximum Refresh Rate: 144hz. :: Screen Diagonal Size: 24 inches :: Screen Dimensions: 22-3/8" (W) x 13-5/16" (H) x 1-7/8" (D) :: Telescoping Ability: 16" to 20-3/8" Total Height [The number is the top of the monitor] :: Tilt Capability: Forward and backward :: Stand Dimension: 9 inch Diameter :: Speakers: 2 x 2 watts :: Ports: Display Port, Dual Link DVI, HDMI :: Headphone Output: None :: USB Ports: None -- What Is Need to Use The Monitor at HD -- :: A graphics card capable of reproducing a 144hz. You definitely bump up considerably when you purchase this monitor. I play on World of Tanks using the High Definition mode. The difference in the colors and detail are very noticeable provided you have a graphics card capable of running High-Def with a 144hz Refresh Rate. The colors from the Asus reproduced out of the box were atrocious when hooked up to my PC. I tried using my on-board NVIDIA card's program but it never came close to what I was searching for in terms of color balance and brightness. It took too much time, so it was off to the search engine I went. I was able to find several web pages that had an ICC Profile pre-configured for my NVIDIA graphics card and all that was needed, after installation, was to tweak the brightness a bit. Many thanks for those people who put them out there. Using the ICC Profile saved me a lot of time. If you need help understanding how to load an ICC Profile once you have downloaded it to your computer just search, 'Using ICC Profile in Windows'. I can't guarantee you will find the ICC Profile for your particular graphics card but if you do find one it saves a lot of time and experimentation. If you are a hands-on person there are also multiple web pages that will help you, step by step, through the process of using your graphics card software program to set up your monitor and then tweak it for game play. The telescoping stand and tilt works easily and can be moved on a moment’s notice if needed. The monitor feels solid on the desk, unlike some monitors I have owned. It is real nice to have a solid stand and monitor standing on your desk without the threat of the cat or child accidentally knocking it over. I have not used the speakers on the monitor because I use gaming headphones. I cannot comment on their capability. Monitor speakers I have used didn't have dynamic sound so unless you are hard-up for sound don't bother. This card gets 5 stars because it delivered, in spades, the best color and image definition, as well as some nice extras, I've seen since using computers in the past 10 years. Are there better monitors out there? Yes, but this price point makes it a great choice for budget-minded gamers with a huge bump in definition above your normal graphics card. Just do your home- work to make sure your computer and graphics card have the capability to use its maximum settings. You will be very pleased with the results. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE: Make sure you change the graphics card Refresh Rate to 144hz!

This is my review after almost 3 years, purchased this on march/april(?) 2016 and have these as a triple monitor setup since that day. I should note that when I originally purchased the 3, one of them had a poor lit panel which I returned for a replacement within a week. 3 years later I have not had a single problem with these monitors- display wise. The 'ergonomic' base/adjusting was a little bit of an issue when setting the 3 monitors side by side in a little bit of an arc formation. The issue which is ridiculous to remedy is that because of all of the adjustment options in all directions, its almost impossible to get all monitors perfectly even but Ive learned to live with it over time because unless you go all out and use a level to get things perfectly horizontal and plumb, they will be small inconsistencies. This however is the nature of these 'super adjustable' bases. The refresh rate of 144hz as well as 1ms response time was actually a blessing in disguise I did not realize until I purchased a separate 28" 75hz 5ms monitor recently which I almost instantly regret. If you are not looking for a 4k panel, then 144hz and at most 1ms response time is almost required for gaming. Even single player games, rotating the camera around is so fluid and clean, on the other 75hz panel it hurts my eyes because of the blur/disfiguration from moving the camera. Now the other debate is whether to go 24 or 27/28". The picture on the 24 is going to be a little more dense and 'compact' for lack of a better term because of the smaller screen. The larger screen may have slightly pixelate the image which I noticed on my recently purchased viotek 27" 75hz monitor. I know its not the same quality and screen as this but for still images, the difference is noticable especially after getting used to 24" panels. If you dont know what I am talking about go look at a 55" or larger tv on 1080p resolution at a electronics store. The image gets stetched out the larger you go. All things aside, I cant find myself replacing these monitors anytime soon unless 2 or more die at the same time. The quality for its time has been great and still holds up today. I should probably also mention that pc speakers are almost always terrible when compared to an actual external sound speaker system so that should never be a factor in deciding on a monitor. Nowadays alot of people want the low bezel monitors (main reason why I purchased that 27" for another room) but In my experience those have been plauged with more problems (asus included) than panels such as this. While I would like smaller bezels nowadays, its not worth replacing this just for a trend which will either change or be further improved later on. Not sure if already mentioned but no dead pixels either which was a surprise since I thought after a year I was going to get a couple. Good job on these asus lol.

I was on the fence buying a TN panel display. I mean come on, it's 2017... I can get the same 24" IPS display I bought 5 years ago for half the price I originally payed for it, and half the price of this TN panel. But reading the reviews and studying up on higher framerates, on top of playing competitive pvp games led me to picking up one of these when I needed to replace my main display. I bought into the hype... AND OMG was it worth it. WOW 144 Hz what a difference. IMMEDIATELY after setting the monitor refresh rate on my NVidia GTX 1060 to 144 Hz I knew I made the right choice. I sat there in awe moving my mouse around the screen so smoothly and crisply. You wouldn't think you'd pick up the difference but I can easily see it just by moving my mouse around on my new and old monitors side by side. Obviously gaming-wise the difference is just as well, Battlerite at 144Hz is perfection. Color-wise, no doubt this panel competes with my old IPS ASUS displays (VE247H & an older VH236H). Side by side I don't even notice a difference after tuning the settings and colors, if anything the blacks look even better on the VG248QE. I'm stunned. Just know that, like all of the ASUS monitors I've used, the VG248QE needs some significant tuning to get the colors / levels set correctly. The last thing I'll talk about is the stand. My older ASUS monitors have fixed stands with no height adjustment or rotation. The added advantage of the rotation and height adjustments are super nice and I didn't realize what I was missing. The base of the display has an integrated rotation feature, really high quality.

For those of you that wanted a 144 Hz/1ms delay monitor for a good price, this monitor does the job. Please keep in mind that out of the box it does not come with a display port/DVI-dual link cable, so you will need to buy those as well if you want to reach 144 refresh rate. As other reviews said the monitor does have washed out colors, I used the settings below (courtesy of Reddit) which helped it a lot. Settings: -Theater mode -Contrast = 83 -Saturation = 42 -Color temp = user mode with all three set to 83 -Skin tone = natural -Sharpness = 50 -Trace Free = 40 -ASCR = On Getting 144 Hz on Windows 10: Also note the monitor will default to 60 Hz out of the box, even with a new cable. To change this on Windows 10 (with creators update) go to display settings, click display adapter properties, and then click the monitor tab and select the refresh rate you want. (if you have more than 1 monitor make sure to have the right one selected before trying to change the settings). Overall, for the price, its a good monitor, arrived quickly and in good condition. Will probably buy a second one to replace my other monitor, Overwatch looks great on it.

****7/13/17**** This monitor is amazing! If you have spent a lot of time researching this (or other) monitors, you may have heard a few people talking about the colors being washed out because it's a tn panel.. Well, in my experience, this is far from the truth! I had to do a double take because this thing is vibrant, colorful and so nice to look at! I have only been using it for 2 days so far, but my goodness this is a great looking screen! It even looks good from angles that you wouldn't even possibly look at it from. It's hard to tell that it's a tn panel. I'll come back and update this review as I use it over time, but right now, I'm really happy with this purchase! I primarily play Overwatch and I may dabble in Guild Wars 2 or Aion from time to time and I have to say, these games look fantastic on this monitor. And having a 144hz refresh rate on such a fantastic looking display is just awesome. I'll try to attach some photos of this monitor from various angles, but for some reason my camera phone picks up lines in the screen that aren't really there when looking at it. I'm sure it has something to do with shutter speeds and all that, but I'm definitely no photographer.

Wow. First, I did tons and tons of research choosing a new monitor for my new computer. I wanted to try a 144Hz monitor because I am a gamer, mainly CS:GO and League of Legends. I saw this monitor has lots of decent reviews and that it's the BEST price value for its specs. This monitor has everything to offer right out the box with cables that you need to connect to your graphics card. I really like the height adjustment feature that most entry monitors dont have. Since most of the reviews said the colors look a little washed out, I was able to get it to look beautifully after doing a little research. Just go to: https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/3c8fpi/the_old_thread_for_just_bought_a_glorious_asus/ and it has EVERYTHING that you need to get the colors to look nice and vivid. For a mid-tier gaming monitor, this monitor is hands down the best for its quality and price.
