This is not my first electric shaver, however it is my first Remington electric. After reading the negative reviews I decided to ignore them and order it anyway because some people just can't be pleased, or they don't really know what to expect from an electric shaver. Used properly this Remington gives as good a shave as any other brand electric shaver. It arrived fully charged and after a dozen shaves it's still at 80 percent charge. It is very easy to use and clean, and gives consistently nice close shaves. I've experienced no "razor burn", no pulling or pinching of the skin or any other uncomfortable issues. I've even used it on my scalp. I'm pleased with this purchase...good electric shaver at a reasonable price....and if it lasts, the replacement heads are much less expensive than the other brands I've used.

Don't listen to ONE of the negative reviews, this razor is the best AND I HAVE PROOF! If you look at my picture there, I bought supposedly the best razor from Wahl. It cost TWICE what the Remington F5-5800 cost, TWICE. I figured it's Wahl, they have a great reputation, I should get it. I'm sorry Wahl but your best razor doesn't even come close to matching the kind of shave from the Remington. The closeness of the shave, no razor bumps (I am black so my skin is super sensitive) and ease of use! The Wahl is literally a minor league player while Remington is a major league superstar. AND A BONUS: The little flip up trimmer on the back of the Remington IS NUTS! It trims better than my full blown Wahls and Oster clippers! I'm not joking folks.

I frankly didn't believe the article I read about the best shavers for the buck. I've always been a Norelco/Phillips kind of guy, but I thought that this was definitely worth a try for three tenners. I mean, even if it didn't do a good job, that's just a couple lunches I wasted. Compare that to the two name brands where you try them out for several hundred dollars, and you regret your decision. So, I tried it. I couldn't believe how good this thing works as a day-to-day shaver! It's not perfect, mind you, but it has taught me a lot about how those name brands mark up their product and make us pay through the nose for an expensive shaver, when an inexpensive one works just as good. I mean, for crying out loud, this WHOLE shaver is cheaper than the replacement foil on my two name brand shavers! I still like the feel of a freshly cleaned out shaver (ala Norelco self-cleaning units) better, but not if it's going to cost me a ton of money. I don't enjoy taking off the foil, brushing it out, blowing it clean, etc. But other than that, it's great. My recommendation to you, gentle reader, is to keep this thing fully charged. I originally just charged it every couple of weeks, but I noticed that it does its best work when fully charged. Now I just keep it plugged in almost all the time, and I get a great shave daily. WELL DONE, Remington!

BEST SHAVER EVER!!!! To any reading this I am an African-American male getting ready to depart for basic training on Jan 13th (todays date of this review is Oct 12th) I have always had problems with the usage of regular razors and getting razor bumps. However, being clean shaven is part of the requirements and with the pay and duty requirements for regular enlisted I knew I wouldnt be able to go to the barber every other day to stay smooth. I searched literally for a week before deciding on which particular shaver to buy. I looked at the top expensive models from Braun and Panasonic but couldnt quite bite the bullet cuz of the price tag. After I figured out that I wouldn't spend more than 100 bucks I started looking at features of each specific razor. Keep reading: The thing that caught my eye about this is the Interceptor Shaving Technology. Basically it has a built in trimmer in between the two foils that will cut hair longer than stubble to stubble length. Every other foil shaver and even rotary shaver I looked at did not have this feature. And even my barber told me that with electric shavers you really have to not let the hair get longer than stubble or else they wont work. This appealed to me as more of a preventative and unique measure but still very beneficial I originally received this razor on Sept 24th and I have been using it for about 2 and a half weeks and have been using it without fail ever since. In my case a couple weeks before I received it I stopped shaving because I had to let my face heal from trying to use a regular razor so I had about a solid 1/16th inch of hair covering my face. I unboxed it, read the instructions, and it took about 8-10 mins but the result was like I had shaven with a razor. I had no whiskers or stray hairs anywhere and my skin felt baby smooth and not irritated! I have been using it ever since without fail and still NO RAZOR BUMPS only baby smooth skin!! It's cordless so all you have to do is make sure it's charged before you use it. Some tips: 1)Don't use alot of pressure when shaving. 2)DO NOT go in circles or fast. Use deliberate kind of slow straight back-forth up/down side to side motions. This thing has a pivot head that adjusts to the contours of your jawline and neck. After using for a little bit you will notice a sound difference when it is actually cutting vs going over smooth hair free skin 3)Make sure your skin is clean and completely dry and not oily 4)Make sure you clean after every use. This helps to keep the razors under the foil able to cut like a regular razor 5)For supreme results use day and night. I personally, use it at night only but my friend who I recommended this to has facial hair that grows extremely fast so he has to use it more but is still baby smooth and bump free like me I have recommended this to ALL of my friends and think I will purchase another one just in case it ever breaks or whatever. It is that good. LOVE IT!!!!!!

I have been using electric shavers for over 45 years since I was a teen. My first was a Remington Mark something in the 1970s. It was a gift from my Dad who took pity on me because I kept cutting myself. He had a corded Schick electric shaver. Over the years I've used corded and cordless shavers of all quality and price levels (Braun, Remington, Wahl, Norelco and a couple of cheap knockoff copycats). I've found that knockoffs are never any good, and that spending about $50 to $70 is the sweet spot. The quality of the shave doesn't get better with $100 to $200 shavers, but you may get more features, like a cleaning system. This one falls towards the top of my price sweet spot., but it has a nice battery charge gauge and works as well or better than more costly shavers. It shaves comfortably close and it does so if I've shaved on a daily basis or haven't shaved in days. It is comfortable in my smallish hands and feels well made. It's fairly plain and not fancy. It has one feature that shavers in this audience mostly do not have: a nice battery gauge. Bottom line: its a great shaver at a good price.

Read many of the posted reviews before making a decision. I prefer a foil shaver. Having had a Braun previously I checked their models out first. Whoa Nellie, the prices!!! No shaver should cost that much. Then read the reviews that they are now made in China and I tabled the Braun. Noticed the Remington 5800 at $54 so I read the reviews. 4.5 stars and great reviews by owners. Regardless of what others find objectionable regarding size and build quality, I found this to be an outstanding value and outstanding shave. Yes, it's larger than most razers and yes, it is plastic. So what? I found it comfortable in my hand and ergonomically well shaped. So it's plastic. It's a shaver not a hunting rifle. Just don't dribble it like a basketball and all will be fine. It gives me a very close shave without having to press hard against my skin and it handles the upper lip and chin better than most. I love the placement of the trimmer on the back of the razer as it allows me to get it in and around my ear to get rid of nasty ear hair. I have a soft beard and sensitive skin following radiation treatments and this Remington gets them all and leaves my skin unscathed. I've always used a moisturizer after shaving anyway. Money well spent on this and if it gives me 2 or 3 years of service I got my money's worth. I'd buy it again and recommend it highly.

I have owned Braun, Norelco, Panasonic, and now Remington electric razors. I recently joined Harry's shave club as well. I can say, without a doubt, that this is the closest, most comfortable razor out of all those that I have used (including the conventional blades). In addition, this razor GETS THE LONG HAIRS, that other electrics simply haven't been able to shave. Tough spots for me are along the jawline (below my ear) and on my neck...particularly if I haven't shaven for a couple of days. This razor also shaves right up under my nose where others tend to leave a little row of whiskers that I have to take care of with a conventional blade. Genuinely impressed...particularly given the low price point of this razor. Closeness of shave is easily as close as cream/blade...well done, Remington. Bottom line: buy this razor...you will not be disappointed.

I often don't shave for a week or more at a time. When my beard gets too long, I hack it off and start again. I've had a hard time finding a razor to do the job, because each razor seems to have its specialty. I finally settled on this razor and one more to do the complete job. I started a year ago with a Philips Norelco BT1100 Beard Trimmer to do the heavy trimming, then finished the job with shaving cream and a safety razor. That combination was a bit messy and time-consuming, so I switched for the final trimming to a Philips 7310XL three-headed rotary. Then I switched to a Philips Norelco One Blade for the heavy work, keeping the three-headed rotary for final trimming. That was a step in the right direction, but the rotary still left something to be desired in the final trimming department. Remembering my long-gone Remington XLR-800, (the one that Victor Kiam 'liked so much he bought the company') , which was the best razor I ever owned, I thought I'd try another Remington. This one was highly reviewed, so I bought it. It does a great job as my 'finishing tool', and also works well when I'm traveling and shave every day. I like it pretty much, but I'm not about to buy the company.

I don't have anything bad to say about this razor. I've never had a Braun, so I can't compare. I've has a few other rotary head. Those all chewed my face up and missed areas. This works great. I especially like the long hair clipper in between the foils. Thought I would not recommend trying to shave long whiskers with this. A good method if you let your stubble grow out for a few days or more is to knock it all down with a trimmer. I use that to shape my facial hair every few days and knock down all the tall hairs. Then go at it with this and it will take care of a few stragglers you might have missed. The key thing is to maintain very light pressure and let the foils grab the hairs, and go over everything a few times to be sure. Don't press down or it will chew your skin. It's VERY EASY TO DISASSEMBLE AND CLEAN. I'd buy it again in a heartbeat.

so i've had this for a couple of days and already used it 4 times, i looked over the reviews and people complained bout the foil breaking and it scratching them, got me thinking twice. however, having a sensitive skin and it hurting and irritating when i use any kind of foam+razor i can tell you this is better than a razor, i can shave dry AND without having hair falling all over the sink because it captures all the trimmed hair inside the foil, i can just wash it when i'm done, leave it out to dry and its ready for use the next time. the very first time i used it it irritated my skin but i think thats because i still wasn't used to it or didn't know how to use it. but if you have a sensitive skin and don't like using razors i think this would be a purchase well worth your hard earned money.period.
