I have used various DVDs, and this one is great: Slim, fast and at mere $25 with free ship from Adorama (the seller): I have nothing to complain. Came in completely sealed, new condition, DVD itself has a thin, transparent protective film all around, with all manuals, 1 x USB cable and an installation DVD (which I did not have to use as my computer automatically did it. Thus, in my case, this was a plug-n-go situation.) I use this for my home office / personal use. I often burn CDs and DVDs, 30 to 100 at a time, containing documents to presentations to photos to videos. This is good enough for my use. Besides, the sleek and slim look is nice to look at on my work desk. The seller, Adorama did great job in shipping free and fast, delivering in 5 days from NJ to CA. Once I received, I can request invoice/warranty via email so that warranty would start when I get the item. I'm very satisfied with the product and the seller.

Now that all the new iMacs no longer have a disc drive, I had to find an external one but didn't want to pay a ridiculous amount for something that only gets used once in a while. I trust LG products and went with this one. The build quality is a bit light but I like that it works right out of the box without having to download any software or anything - just plug the sucker in and BOOM - that Ace of Bass cd goes right into my iTunes. Woot! Woot! Will it wear out at some point? - yeah but so does everything else computer related. And again, for the price, this thing is amazeballs. Simple, easy, and ready to go when I need it. Just like my husband.

It seems to be working to above standards right out of the box, instantly loads dvds, all the ones my dvd drive won't load this one doe's so I can keep upgrading my Vudu account. It seems to play them just fine without loading any of the software that came with the unit, so I just tucked away the software so if needed I have it. I haven't played a whole movie yet but it opens under fifteen seconds or way quicker and plays it then since I'm just uploading to Vudu I stop it and do my thing, but the picture is pulled up on screen for intro so I can tell it's playing the dvds. One cable seems to be more than strong enough using HP CQ 60 usb port. It's kind of light and flimsy but not bendable flimsy. Expect the unit to be moving all arround while taking in and out discs, it's think just a half an inch high, so I finally ended up wedging it under the usb plug in and that seems to hold in a good place and keep it from moving all around, now I just need to find a shorter cable in my bag of cables to make it pretty, one that comes with it though has the magnet shield magnet on it so not sure if I should switch it out. Push the button on the front and it pops right open not a fancy one like an x box but more like the ones that come with lap tops, latch is released and spring pops it open. Makes some loud noises with some dvds and those were not properly pushed down enough so be careful of that. Still some are just louder even when rightly inserted. It's got a plastic sticker on top to make it look aluminum brushed, it's all plastic, so don't mistakingly try and peel it off as a clear protective sticker like the ones found all over unit when you get it like I did, didn't peel up at all but I was just lucky. As I said plug and play replaces immediately your internal drive once auto driver finds right driver to communicate with unit, I'm using Windows 7. Expect it to be smudgy on top from holding the unit down while closing it each time. No fancy lights or anything just one blue or green activity light on front and one button on front to open it. I think that covers it, as I said brand new and haven't played an entire disc, but very pleased on it's lightning speed of opening all my dvds when my drive would just click for minutes and still not open them. Write me for questions, spend the thirty and be satisfied, I'm now an LG customer. I have it running off a plain usb not 2.0 or anything, at least I'm pretty sure it's just a plain usb.

I plug it into my Microsoft surface pro 4 and it work okay, I used it to load my old disks I own of Microsoft office and student 2007. I also loaded outlook 2007.. They loaded and work fine. I did not want to use the latest version of Office and Outlook App because it cost about 100 dollars or more a year to lease them fro microsoft. These work fine So this external drive paid for itself allowing me to load office and outlook, the instruction are on a sheet that is full size and is readable without a magnified glass. the device is very small, light weight and well built.. The disk that comes with the dvd disk with is a program called Media Suite 10.by Cyberlink but it's not the full version it includes Power2go ,Labelprint2.5 ,Powerbackup 2.0 and Youcam 5.0. I used my desktop to load these programs. you need this external drive to load them. They loaded okay but I did not spend the time to play with these programs. I don't really need them but I will check them out and see if I have a future use for them.

Works Great with included cable for my laptop (Acer R3-131T) and reads both mini cd/dvd and standard sized cd/dvd

I needed a Portable DVD drive for a tablet and laptop that does not have one installed. You need to install the software that is provided. After installing the software it works without any problems. I have installed other software with out problems on a windows 8.1 operating systems.

This will, in fact, work on a Mac: Some reviews and answers suggest this is not Mac-compatible; however, here's the skinny: This unit is plug and play, meaning no setup is required. (Note: The software CD that comes with it is NOT necessary for use; it's just a free media suite.) The problem lies in the fact that, when a BLANK disc is inserted, the drive doesn't appear in Finder, which is no doubt confusing. (A disc with content will appear normally.) One method to confirm it is recognized is to go to About This Mac > Storage. To burn a file to a blank disc: Control-click your file and select Burn "your_file" to Disc — a popup box should give you the option to select the external drive. NOTE: Samsung no longer supports external optical drives. No tech support, no warranty claims via manufacturer.

This is a gem of a portable DVD player. I've really taken a shine to this player. I like the size and weight and portability. It has worked flawlessly for me on several devices, many of which were not mine. I have not used it to burn anything I just use it to play CD's and DVD's so far. I won't comment on its ability to burn DVD's but I can say I really like it for what I use it for. It just works for me on all kinds of different devices and various CD/DVD's. That and its portable, does not require a power plug (must be plugged into a powered USB port) and durable. I have dropped it twice with no ill effects and it even played a DVD that would not play in my playstation3 because of scratches. One minor knock is that on a few occasions it "seeks" for longer than I expect it to. Not sure why that is but it happens infrequently enough that I give it much thought. Toss it in the case Lacdo Shockproof External USB CD DVD Writer Blu-Ray & External Hard Drive Neoprene Protective Storage Carrying Sleeve Case Pouch Bag With Extra Storage Pocket for Apple MD564ZM/A USB 2.0 SuperDrive / Apple Magic Trackpad / SAMSUNG SE-208GB SE-208DB SE-218GN SE-218CB / LG GP50NB40 GP60NS50 / ASUS External DVD Drives (Black) I bought for it and then into my backpack and away I go. No regrets with this purchase.

After having issues with using my internal DVD burner on my desktop I still needed some way to burn somethings off and read some disc. So why not replace the internal DVD burner, you might ask. There is nothing actually wrong with it, is why. It's a long complicated story. Ignoring that let's talk about the burner. Only needs the single USB slot, that is as long as your USB slot can supply enough power to it, which mine can. The portable devices with 2 USB, one being pig tailed off the other, are for the rare cases when that's needed for that device it doesn't mean you always need it. I do wish the USB cable was bit longer. It's only about 2 feet long. Mini-USB on the device end. Moving on, it uses a tray instead of slot loaded. I've never really cared for slot load devices. The tray is just like what you would get a laptop where the disc snaps into the tray, understandable being as slim as it is. The burn times are on par with what my internal burner would do: 4.3GB in about 10mins, a bit more than 20mins if I add in the verify step which is a good idea most times. Anyone looking to get this for the intent of using it as a DVD player for your TV; DON'T! That's not what it's meant for. It's meant to be used with a computer, not a TV. While yes I'm sure it'll work with some TVs that doesn't mean it'll work with all of them. If you want a mini DVD player for your TV then go looking for one that's designed for that. LG's website list this as "TV Connectivity" which is a bit misleading since it's just a USB device. I'm sure it works fine on most LG TVs, I can't get to the ports of my some old LG LCD TV to see if it works with it. It doesn't work on my Samsung but that's not the fault of the burner as much as it is the TV itself. My point is, don't knock any star(s) just because it doesn't work on your TV. I would also like people to stop giving it a bad review because of "the installation CD" and "can't find drivers for it." There Are No Drivers For This Device! This is simply plug&play. The "installation CD" is for installing the, completely optional, Cyberlink free software. If you're having problems with getting this to work, it's not because it's missing drivers. Even since Windows95, I've never known an optical drive that required drivers for it to work, not including USB. If you're on a Mac or Linux or Windows XP and newer, then it's just plug&play. Speaking of the Cyberlink software. I've seen people knocking off stars because of it. The Cyberlink software is offered for people that need that sort of thing. If you can't get the software to work for whatever reason, then go complain to them. It's LG's fault or the drives fault. Rate the product not the optional software.
