I purchased this to survive an extensive kitchen renovation project that lasted 5+ weeks and it's been a life saver. I don't know how we would have done without. This hot plate doesn't look like anything too special but the fact is: it just works! The first few uses cause some burnt smell but the instructions say this is normal and it went away quickly by itself. I was able to boil eggs and enough water to cook pasta in this, despite it being slower than a real stove. We saved so much money by buying this and not having to eat out a lot! Highly recommended!

I've been using this buffet burner while my kitchen is being remodeled. I've been able to cook burgers, pasta.. almost anything I could cook on my stove. This has been a lifesaver!

I've been wanting one of these for years. In order to reduce the amount of vampire electricity, I turn off all major unused appliances from the electric box. Since doing this, I have noticed a significant reduction in my electric bill. My stove has all the electronic gadgets that are "on" even when the stove is not in use. I still use my stove when I need the oven or am cooking a meal that requires multiple burners. But for the most part, I have been able to use the hot plate. I use it to brew coffee (percolator). Grill with a cast Iron frying. Deep fry. Cook in a dutch oven. Operate the pancake griddle. It can handle anything a large single burner on a regular stove can handle. With less wattage 1,000 compared to 3,000. Besides being marked High, Med, Low, and Warm, it is a slide temp control which means that you can adjust it anywhere in between. Before I decide on this unit, I was concerned that 1,000 watts would not be enough to achieve / retain the heat needed for everyday cooking. The burner is made of cast iron, which means it no only retains heat but heats evenly around the surface of the burner. I also use either cast iron or heavy stain steel cookware so they help in even and heat retention. I've been using this now for almost a month. And am very happy that it handles all of my cooking needs. Other people have said that it turns on and off. All electrical heating appliances does this. Even your electric stove. That is a function of the thermostat maintaining the set temp. These things are not toys so you need to be very careful if you are using it in a home with littleones. The base is very light weight. And just slightly wider than the burner. And there are no safe guards (except you ) to keep the pot, or even the unit from sliding off the burning/ counter if it is jarred.

We used to use a similar burner in our RV for years, so when the stove died, I immediately ordered this one, so I could make my coffee mornings in a Caffe Moke pot. Live in a rental, so did not know how long it would take before the issue was remedied. This burner has been a life-saver. Coffee lovers understand. The burner heats up very quickly, and is plenty hot for the Moka pot - used it on "4". My daughter used it for cooking, including huge pots of potatoes, and for some canning, and it worked very well. Yes, it's only a six inch burner, but it works every bit as well as an electric stove small burner. If you are accustomed to gas, well then, electric just isn't as efficient. I have been very satisfied, and it did the tasks we needed for over a month. Now I will use it whenever an extra burner is required.

I bought several for a cooking class (we were making cheese) they all worked flawlessly. There was a slight small when they first fire up but the goes away after the first use. The heat up evenly and were small and compact.

This single burner unit works well!!I bought it here because its all metal design and a flat plate burner instead of the coils,The 1,000 watt heating element brings a 6 quart pot with a lid of water to boil in approx. 18-20 minutes.I've noticed that after a while it cycles on/off but everything works well!I assume that's a thermal protection circuit that protects the unit?I like the all metal design,no plastic to melt! Some have commented on a burning smell and smoke when first used, thats true, but after a couple of uses it goes away.I've owned it for 1 month of daily uses, works well!!Yes the burner stays hot after your done, but all electric burners are the same, you just have to be careful!!I like the longer cord also(4 feet). This is an attractive design and even comes with a user manual. The price is right, good design and it functions well,a good buy in generalHope this helps!! enjoy!!

I bought this small burner to fry fish outside along with my BBQ to avoid the fish smell in my house. It is a very well construct burner and easy to clean up spill and greasy splatter. Easy to control dial for continuous heating levels. If you have an electrical outlet outdoor then this is better than using profane stove. This is also a great burner to keep soup or stew warm while free up the stove for more cooking. It works very well for me.

This little guy is a life saver. I used it while my range was being worked on and man, I think I am going to stick to using this little baby. It works great, gets PLENTY hot (not sure what everyone else is talking about) and is really easy as far as clean up and storing away when not in use. Cleanup is so much easier and faster with this little device. Highly recommend. Unless you are melting iron ore or gold, this thing will heat up really nice for all your cooking needs.

This is my second purchase of this product, this time as a gift. My original purchase was intended to be little more than a low-powered tea pot warmer. However, it can do so much more. I over-looked the 110VAC/1000W power spec, knowing that I not likely ever use it beyond 5%-6% of capacity. I wanted it just for quiet tea pot warmer. However, as soon as it arrived, I experienced on the of the power outages so common in my area. No set up, no dangerous flames and yes, my cables and B/U generator can accommodate the 1kW max load. Well beyond keeping my tea warm, I cooked supper on this thing, got plenty of heat and excellent temperature regulation. It works. I would not depend upon it fir high-output use over the long term and it is difficult to clean. That said, when used as a modest power, low demand heading unit, super low for a tea pot or medium for a pot of soup or beans, and the rare higher temp when I'm on generator, this is THE hotplate to use. I'd guess that Amazon's price is ~10%-12% higher than a few stores, but that's just Amazon. $18 bucks is not horrible. Disclosure: Both of these units were cash purchases and neither was provided by anyone for evaluation purposes. I bouthe them with real money! -CG

Purchased to use to keep my coffee warm. I've given up on expensive coffee pots that break in short period of time. This hot plate set between warm and low keeps a Melita brand porcelain pot of coffee drinking temperature until it's finished. I almost didn't purchase based on negative reviews. Glad I did.
