I bought the PS3 as a separate item to control a robot. I don't have the Playstation, so I was at risk. Turns out the PS3 is a perfect match with generic Bluetooth devices and pairs easily. Sony intends for you to have the Playstation as well so there is a trick to turning off the controller. Normally, you have to click a button on the Playstation screen to turn off the device, but if you hold the "on" button down for 10 seconds, it will turn off. Whew! This is critical. Otherwise you run the battery down on each use. The battery is charged via a mini-USB cable to any normal USB connection on any computer. It flashes four LEDs until charged, then they go out. At that point, hold the main button down for 10 seconds to ensure the unit is off. I had to push the "on" when I first got the unit before the charger engaged. After that, it charged each time I plug in the USB port. Don't leave the USB cable in when the unit is fully charged. LiPo batteries don't like that.

The factory controller I got with my PS3 started to have issues with the right analogue stick. The stick would register movement even when I wasn't doing anything (It was "floating" to the right). I bought a replacement controller at Walmart and after 2 weeks the same thing happened, only this time the right stick was floating to the left. I returned that and bought this refurbished controller from Amazon. The battery life is good, all the sticks and buttons work properly, and most importantly there was no floating issue. If you've been having trouble with new controllers like me, Give these a try. The refurbished models have to be tested before they are sold so sometimes they are better than new ones.

I bought two different third party wireless controllers and both turned off after a short amount of time, falsely advertised Dual Shock & Sixaxis, lagged, sometimes did just whatever they felt like and rattled out of the box to some degree. The alternative to buying a controller used from a seller that wasn't Amazon, was a new one for at least $50. I'm super happy to have found a legit PS3 controller from a good seller who shipped it fast and it wasn't a ridiculous price. The $30 I spent on knock offs would have paid for a good condition, used Sony controller.

Bought generics a few months ago, that was a mistake, they didn't work right from day one. The factory recertified controllers work as well as a new one but at a better price.

this was a gift. he has been using knockoffs, and was very very happy to get this for a present. it is still working perfectly five months after purchase.

Be careful what seller you buy from it can be the wrong controller for your place but it will work anyway I got a Europe controller instead of a USA

I hadpreviously bought a knockoff which didn’t hold a charge. This controller works great I recommend it for anyone.

Works just as smoothly as the one that came with my new PS3 back in 2008. No complaints. It even has great battery life.

My old controller stopped working, this was identical to my old one but it was much lighter and a great option for my ps3

Works great and for a great price. Replaced my broken ones that would die even when connected by a cord. At least this one doesnt shut off like that lol.
