I simply love these remotes and live in a two story townhouse with lots of lamps! I have three lamps in different sitting areas in my living room and two lamps on either side of my bedroom across my king size bed. While sitting watching TV or reading a book it is easy to turn any light on--and when I want to go to bed I turn on the lights upstairs and leave one on downstairs until I'm up there then turn it off. No direct sight lines needed--don't ever have to worry about--"Oh I forgot to turn out the light downstairs!" Two remotes--one for each floor! Then I can get ready for bed and read or watch TV and turn the lamps on without stretching or waking the pup to turn off the light across the room! I bought a less expensive version at Costco that died, but this one is stylish and has lasted for years without fail. I buy them for everyone I know and they too love them--can't go wrong for the price!

Exactly what we were looking for! Simple system, 2 remotes, more than one receiver. We bought new bedroom furniture and two lamps, one for each nightstand. We wanted a way to control the lamps remotely and saw these. So far so good! Since this kit comes with 5 receivers, I could always make something else remote controlled. Some people complain about the size of the receivers, and they are large, but no complaints here. For our needs, they work perfectly. We have a small extension cord plugged in under one receiver, but it was a tight fit. Don't expect to get much else plugged in under one of these on a 2 outlet setup. The 5 receivers are numbered 1 - 5 to match up with the buttons on the remotes. They receivers do make an audible click when used, but it does not bother me. The receivers also have a small red led that lights up when it is on. I am including pictures to show how tight of a fit an extension cord under one is. Overall, very pleased with my purchase and would recommend these!

Great product, other reviews pretty much cover everything except a suitable power strip to use all 5 plugs at once in. I bought a Belkin 8-Outlet Pivot-Plug Power Strip hoping all 5 would fit and it works perfectly as you can see in the pictures!

Out of the 5, one had something rattling around in it and I didn't want to take it apart to see what it was and risk voiding the warranty. After contacting the seller I was given a discount for the odd one, so I felt I could open it and see. It is a good thing I did, because it was a metal clip that could have caught between the plug blade slots and shorted out! We removed it completely and other than that it works fine. I am using 2 of them outside. One runs a mercury vapor yard light that I only use a short time every night and don't have a switch indoors to control it (the switch and light are out in the barn) so I turn it on with the remote before going out. It is about 30 feet from the house. I need to drop the receiver down to a more clear line since the 3rd wall it has to go through sometimes makes it hard to get lit. The second one we use on a pond pump so we can turn it on and off from in the house. We turn it off at night. During the winter it is hooked to a small lighted tree that we turn on at night. 2 are being used in the house, one to control a light and one to control a fan that brings heat upstairs from a wood stove. The one on the light is used a lot and I have the second remote in the bedroom so I can leave the living room light on until I am in bed, then I shut it off from in there. I can also turn on that light before getting up in the morning. The 5th one is a floater, I use it here and there as needed. Right now it is running an electric fence for winter moose control that we sometimes have to turn off while watching certain tv channels because of interference. This way we can turn it off and on without going outside in the cold and dark and un plugging it. I have not tried any of the other programming things you can do with these since we don't need that capability so I can't say anything about how they work, or don't. These work well and I am happy with my purchase. If I needed more I would not hesitate to buy them again. The picture shows the little clip that was loose inside of one of them, and what is inside of the unit. Having 2 remote controls is very handy.

These work great with a raspberry pi. Check out my blog post describing how I used them http://timleland.com/wireless-power-outlets/

I've since acquired another set of these and they all seem to function fine. Additionally beyond that, the remain 4 that were functional out of the first set have been cycling daily (via RPi) for about 4 months now. It's reasonable to assume that out of the countless number of these made, that I received a faulty one. Fortunately Etekcity took it upon themselves to correct the issue. However, I would strongly encourage buyers to cycle them on and off a few times to make sure that there aren't any issues before you depend on them.

These are called ZAP by Etekcity. I order the five pack even though I thought I had only three uses. Go for the five pack. Each outlet is pre-coded like 399-1, 399-2, etc. so the remote button 1 controls the -1 and so on. Just plug and play. The remote buttons have on and off and if you are in a different room and not sure if a light is off, just press the off button again, it won't toggle on. The remote sockets are a little large but I found a solution since they can interfer with some plugs using the lower wall socket. See the picture below. The triple socket can be bought at Walmart, Lowes, Home Depot or other places. Here are some items you may want to control. Powered speakers (mine are monitor speakers on a computer that use a power strip), fans and lamps ( I suggest using LED bulbs). The only drawback is labeling the buttons. I wish it came with stick on labels but I had to use some scotch tape on one side of each remote and a Sharpie to label each button. The batteries are 12 volt (A23) but I would expect at least a year. These may need to be ordered online and seem to be a type used in garage door openers (two come with the set). The type of remotes that use WiFi have are much more expensive and you need to use an App on a phone or tablet which is a lot of trouble. However, if you want to control things away from the house or set up a timer program for being away, then maybe the wifi type is better for you. For use around the house or apartment, these are excellent.

Have been using this product for ONE YEAR now: I can say without reservation that this is probably the best deal of any product currently for sale on Amazon! Sounds like a ridiculous statement - but my husband is a disabled Veteran and it is often difficult and painful for him to do something benign, like having to get up to turn on a light or a fan. Yes, there are lamps and fans which come with their own remote controls, but this just creates another logistical headache of having a pile of remotes with different battery requirements! (And did I mention that PILE of remotes?) This product comes with 2 remotes and 5 outlets. I keep one remote at his bedside and another in the living room. Either remote can turn on or off any of the 5 lamps, fans and even the Christmas Tree lights anywhere in the house. This is also one of the simplest products to use. The remotes have 5 ON buttons and 5 OFF buttons, conveniently labeled 1, 2,3,4,5 and the outlets are also labeled 1,2 3,4,5, so you know exactly which switch operates which outlet - no confusion here! Yes, the outlets are on the big side, but the value added with this product far outweighs the "inconvenience" of having to use either a simple power-strip or a multi-outlet converter, either available at almost any hardware, pharmacy or convenience store, if I need to share an electric outlet with another plug or remote outlet. And after one year of daily use, neither of the remotes have required a batter change. I wish my TV remote was that economical to operate! So, for $30 we have the ability to operate up to 5 devices anywhere in the house for 2 separate locations. Did I say this was most likely the best deal available on Amazon?

I purchased my first set of 5 outlets in April 2017; just purchased another set. Until my purchase of these in April 2017, I had been using the X-10 remote outlets, which utilizes a central transceiver with a telescoping antenna to transmit requests to the individual outlets. Not entirely happy with the X-10 and its performance (and separate cost of the transceiver, remote control unit, and outlets), I decided on the Etekcity. This purchase includes two remotes and five outlets that are rated at 10 amps, sufficient to handle the overwhelming majority of electrical gadgets that one would wish to control remotely. To me, obvious exclusions (that these outlets could not handle) would be toasters, ovens, microwaves, hair driers, irons, or any appliances that have a high energy demand (in excess of 10 amps/1200 watts on a 120 volt circuit). The remotes utilize A23, 12V. batteries, which I have yet to replace after eight month's continuous use. When needed I purchased Garage Door Opener A23 Battery 12V Special High Capacity 55mAh Same as 23A 23AE L1028 MN21 CELEWELL Brand 6 Count 3 Years Warranty whose three-year warranty can be extended to lifetime upon completion of a minimal condition. One point of confusion for me is the manufacturer's statement "Strong RF signal works through doors and walls without interfering with other electronics; Operating from as far as 100 ft. in line of sight." RF means radio frequency; in my experience with remotes, "line-of-sight" is normally reserved for IR removes, i.e., remotes that transmit an infrared beam to a receiver. IR remotes must be line-of-sight, i.e., there can be no objects/structures between the remote transmitter and the appliance receiver - e.g., as is the case with most TVs. An RF remote (a transmitter) transmits a signal to the receiver (a radio) and that signal goes through/over/under objects, walls, ceilings, roofs, etc. Thus, the manufacturer's RF/line-of-sight statement seems to me to be a misapplication of terms. The Etekcity units are RF: the transmitter at one end of the house will activate the receiver at the other end of the house, walls or no walls. And that has been my experience and, for me, is the main selling point of these units: no matter where I am, the receivers (outlets) ALWAYS respond to the transmitter (control unit). Always! The units appear to be well built, sturdy, and are easy to program and operate. The remotes can be paired (same buttons control same outlets) or programmed independently, or mixed and matched (the same button on both remotes controls one outlet; one button controls two or more remotes). In other words, there are an infinite number of remote/outlet combinations available. Finally, I would note, as some have mentioned, that the outlet is large enough to partially cover the adjacent receptacle of the standard two-receptacle wall outlet and prevent its use with some plugs. In my experience, the flat, two-pronged, polarized plugs, e.g., the typical lamp or double-insulated plugs (i.e., the plug does not include the "earth" ground pin) are not impeded by the Etekcity outlet. It is only the larger round or triangular plugs with the ground pin that may pose a problem (some do not - depends on the size of the plug). I have one situation where this is an issue that I solved by plugging the outlet into an outlet adapter/splitter that did not block the adjacent receptacle (I plugged the adapter into the wall receptacle, then plugged the Etekcity into the adapter). Yes, it was an added $5.00 cost (for the adapter) but well worth the convenience. Speaking of convenience, I have one of the remotes by my front door: one button controls three lamps - click - and my way through the hall to the living room and kitchen is lit; reading in bed, reach over to the end table and - click - lights out without having to crawl up to the lamp switch. Listening to music piped through the house and the phone rings - click - the radio is off; ditto TV. My entertainment center power strip is plugged into a remote outlet - one click - all are on/off. The possibilities are legion. I now have four remotes and ten receptacles: the receptacles are scattered about the house; I have a remote in the kitchen, den/study, bedroom, and living room. Most convenient especially considering the mix and/or match options of the remotes/receptacles. In lieu of or in addition to WiFi controlled devices, these RF controlled receptacles are great. Ed

This is a review of the Etekcity® 5 Pack Self Learning Wireless Remote Control Outlet Light Switch with 2 remotes. Although it is possible that I received a different or updated model, I thought I should correct, or rebut, some of the misinformation that I read in other reviews. After reading all of the reviews on this product, I nearly didn't buy it for a few of those reasons. But my unit arrived in perfect condition, and performed flawlessly. BATTERY Several comments were made about the battery/battery compartment. My compartment opened and closed easily. The battery went right in with no trouble, although I did have to insert it straight into the compartment with no tilt in either direction. My unit came with two batteries, one for each remote. ON/OFF BUTTONS Several reviews said that the on/off buttons were actually just one button, and that if you pushed the "on" or "off" button, the unit would just go to the opposite state. In other words, pushing button 1, on or off, could be used to turn the device on and off. This is not the case with my unit. If I push the on button, the device turns "ON" and if I push it again, the device still stays "ON". The only way to turn a device "OFF" is to push the off button, just as it is labeled. SWITCH SIZE Yep, the switch is big. I am using all five switches for various Holiday lights in our home. In two of those cases, I was able to use another two prong plug in the second outlet below the device. In another case, I had a three pronged plug that I was using in the spare outlet, which had to be relocated, as it would not fit after installing the remote switch. But, very easy to just add the remote switch into a short extension chord, and the problem is solved. I bought the pack of 5 short chords exactly for this reason. RANGE All five of my devices are on the first and second floor of our home. So to test for range, I went into our basement and back to the furthest wall away from the devices. They all worked fine. I would estimate that I was between 40 to 60 feet away from all five devices, and had to go through at least one floor, and a few walls. OVERALL IMPRESSION My overall satisfaction with this product is very high right now. Everything worked exactly as the manufacturer described. After the Holidays, most of these units will be relocated to my basement workshop where they will be subject to much higher loads and more demanding use. I will use one on a dust collector (about 12 amps draw), one on a vacuum, and even one on a strobe light so my wife can summon me if she needs to, without me cutting my hand off if she yells at me to come to dinner. I will think of many uses for this great product. I will try to remember to post my experiences after a few months of use. UPDATE 8/9/2014 Well, although the units work fine for many applications that require about 10 amps or less, they would not work for my 1.5 HP dust collector. This was to be expected as they make no claim that it will support high loads. They do work for many other things though, like the strobe light that I mentioned above. So now my wife just hits a button upstairs and my strobe light in the basement lets me know she needs me to come up! My opinion of this product is still very high, and I may be ordering another set soon.
