Great for external HDs that don't have their own AC adapter
My computer doesn't provide enough power for my external hard drive. Because of this, my external would always disconnect randomly while backing up files, causing a lot of trouble. At best, the data transfer speed would slow down significantly. I was told I should connect it to an external power source, like a USB hub, and I wouldn't have that problem anymore. I got this, and now my external HD never randomly disconnects anymore! I can safely transfer large multi-gig files without having to constantly monitor the connection.

Got me out of a bind with my PS4
I quickly used up all the onboard memory of my PS4 and needed to connect an external drive. This put me in a bind; I needed both of the PS4's USB ports for the drive, one port to power it, the other port to send/receive data. But, I frequently use a USB keyboard while playing Monster Hunter World, and I usually leave my controller plugged in because of it's horrible battery capacity. I also recently got a HOTAS flight stick for Ace Combat 7, which is USB powered as well. I've run the external drive's power line, my keyboard's dongle, the charge cable for the controller, and my flight stick simultaneously through this hub with zero issues. I always keep the drive's power line and the controller cable connected to this hub, and frequently connect the flight stick and keyboard dongle. Still no issues after a few months, and I'm happy to be able to hook up all the equipment I have for the PS4!

Great addition to the PS4
So I bought this one to use in conjunction with my PS4. The two ports there are just too limiting and I wasn't about to trust a simple non powered USB hub to do the job in which I was about to put this one in charge of. So once the hub was in hand I mounted underneath my desk using some 3 mm double sided tape and ran AmazonBasics USB 3.0 Extension Cable - A-Male to A-Female - 3.3 Feet (1 Meter) to my PS4. Now I have a Logitech G710+ Mechanical Gaming Keyboard with Tactile High-Speed Keys - Black, a Blue Microphones Yeti USB Microphone - Blackout Edition and a cable to keep my ASTRO Gaming A50 Wireless Headset charged. Keep in mind that I run the charging cable to the headset and still have the receiver plugged directly into the PS4, otherwise it will keep on beeping every few seconds forever and ever. I have a small cable connected to the extra USB plug in the keyboard for charging the controller in case of desperate need. All of that thanks to this simple and small hub. Definitely recommend this one to anyone that has a lot of peripherals that need to be connected to your PS4 console and to any other device. Will be buying another to hook up to my PC and mount it up front with ports facing out underneath my desk for easy connection for my phone, thumb drives and what not instead of using the ports on the pc case.

7-port is a solid work horse
We have been using the 7-port device constantly for about eighteen months without fail. Installation was a snap. The unit is plug-n-play, so it was instantly recognized by both Windows 7 and Windows 10 computer. We have yet to try it on our Mac. The five volt, four amp charging ports work as expected without overheating the device or attached cables. The transfer speed is restricted by the port speed on the host computer. The 480 Mbps can be realized if your computer USB connection supports it. The device, as we use it, multiplies the one usb port that we have on a laptop. We use it to add printer, wireless mouse/keyboard and charging capabilities to a few of our mobile devices. The unit is lightweight and prone to movement. We have it semi-permanently mounted to the base of an external monitor with some Velcro. It helps with plugging and unplugging devices immensely. Overall, we are very satisfied with this product. We recommend it and would buy it again.

Like most Amazon Basics products I have bought
I have had this hub for about 4 months now and have had no problems with it. Like most Amazon Basics products I have bought, it does the job I need it to, while still being a decent price. I like that it is small and portable. I use a small laptop that has only 3 USB ports. When I am at my desk, I like to use an external keyboard and mouse, and my headset is USB so without a hub, I can't use a flash drive or anything else without unplugging something that I need. So, I bought this as a way to keep my keyboard, mouse, and headset all plugged in and it has worked perfectly for me. I have not used it for transferring any files just because it is USB 2 so I would lose the speed gains of my computer's USB 3.0 ports. The LED light on it is a little bright, especially in a dark room, but that is not an issue for me. I simply turn it over, or it can be covered by a small piece of tape.

Basic but high-quality USB3 hub. Just works.
Amazon Basics USB 3 hub is a simple, small device that just works. It provides power with the supplied power adapter, and supports four USB connections. Only 4 stars for versatility because the cable to connect to the computer port is rather short. The device comes with an instruction booklet, which is hardly necessary, but might be helpful in the odd case of problems. However, the booklet has a typo in the “Connection is slow” troubleshooting section. It refers to needing to plug the unit into a USB 2.0 port. This should say USB 3.0. This is probably a holdover from the instruction booklet for a previous version, a bit of sloppy editing. A very minor flaw in the product.

Used for xbox 360 broken controller port. Great!
Love it. So i had my nieces over one weekend and found my xbox 360 controler port for 2nd player was wrecked.. I found this product on amazon and seen someone else say they used it for xbox 360. I bought and then tried it out with 2 player mode. Plugged it into my 1st controller port and i was able 2 controllers into this device and play 2 player game! Very happy i dont have to go out and buy a new system just to have 2 ports.. There are 4 ports altogether on this device. 3 in front and one in back by the cable. I belive im able to play 4 player games like "jimmy johnsons anything with a engine" game (gocart racing game like crash team racing or mario cart).

Exactly what I was looking for.
Exactly what I was looking for! There are USB connectors for everything nowadays, I have one for my wireless mouse, keyboard, Logitech G13, Bluetooth device, microphone, webcam and more. While there are several ports on my computer (both in the front and back) there just weren't enough and I found myself needing to plug in several to the front of my computer. The problem with that was when I wanted to use my Bluray player that when the tray ejects the cords would become tangled. Enter the Amazon Basics 7 port USB hub. Everything is now nicely connected to the back of the computer and there's no unsightly mess. If you wanted you could even put some double sided sticky tape on it and stick it to the bottom of your desk!

Great!
The reviewers saying this device cuts out all the time, probably connect it to a USB2.0 port on their pc, which can provide only up to 500mAh, or 2,5W max. The hub uses about 50-100mAh to operate (or 0.25-0.5W). When connecting multiple devices, and the total of power consumption of the devices exceed the power the USB port of the pc can provide, of course the USB hub will shut down. It's kind of like trying to get Tesla fast charging enabled through a 120V home socket! Not going to work, or going to blow the fuse! This is no fault of the USB hub, but user error in not understanding the basics of power supply and demand. USB 2.0 devices on a USB 2.0 port, can transfer a maximum of 500mAh (or 2,5W). With a USB 2.0 hub, there's only a maximum of ~400mAh (or 2.4W) left. When plugging in the USB 2.0 port in a USB 3.0 port, there's a maximum of 900mAh (4.5W of power) transferred, and about 800mAh (4W) left for devices, which is almost double. If this were a USB 3.0 hub, in theory you could connect up to 1500mAh (or 7.5W) o devices to it. As far as the hub, It's a USB 2.0 hub with an estimated ~40MB/s transfer speed. Real life transfer speed under Windows 10, is ~38MB/s. This however, works only when: 1- You connect it to a USB 3.0 or higher port. 2- The device (like a flash drive or harddrive) you connect to it, has a transfer speeds of 40MB/s or more. I run this hub successfully on one USB 3.0 port, connect 1x printer, 2x bluetooth modules (for keyboard and mouse), and have 1 USB 3.0 USB flash drive connected to it, without the unit turning off on me. While the flash drive can provide speeds of 120MB/s directly to the USB 3.0 port, it still impressed me immensely. 38MB/s is pretty fast! Printer works, mouse and keyboard function without hiccups. 38MB/s means a 128GB flash drive will be fully written to, in less than 1 hour!

Works on some netbooks where others don't.
You know what happens...you have a small, older netbook/notebook with two USB ports. You use one for your mouse and you need to access two USB flash drives. Unfortunately, I have found that my older USB hubs will trigger a warning that my older netbook can't support the hub due to excess power consumption. This hub is one of the ones that DOES work just fine without any external power source. I've had three separate USB flash drives, plus a mouse receiver, plugged into it at the same time without any problem (on a Lenovo S-10, of all things). Highly recommended.
