Excellent software! Thorough and effective!

Several of my children have used this program to learn how to type. Easy to follow and produces great results.

Note that very little touch-typing was harmed in the typing of this review... Have been thinking about ratcheting up my typing skills -- I'm a speedy hunt-and-peck typist, but wanted to improve, given the number of emails and documents I work with on a daily basis. Naturally I turned to what was familiar from the years that Mavis Beacon typing software has been available. Reviews on many of the prior versions of this software have been overwhelmingly negative, so I actually abandoned the purchase a few weeks ago, hoping to find an alternative that may have claimed the top-spot in typing instruction software. Ultimately, I took the chance and purchased the Mac downloadable version of Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing Powered by UltraKey, hoping that my experience wasn't going to be like the reviews of previous editions. I was pleasantly surprised to find this edition to be simple to download, very straightforward to install, intuitive to use, and bug-free in the short time that I have been using it (I know -- all software has bugs -- but I have yet to encounter any issues in using the software). I did also go to the vendor's website to check their Tech Support area for this software, and found that very few (3) issues were reported, mostly about installing and licensing (where I personally encountered zero issues). Onto the use of the software -- same as I remember from my PC-edition 10+ years ago: very user-friendly, and very intuitive to navigate. The product has a fresh interface, while maintaining the foundational principles of learning touch typing on which the Mavis Beacon brand has built its name for so many years. The software starts by creating a profile for you to track your progress, give some tips on posture, home-keys, and then gives an assessment by having you type a short narrative. From that point, the software then sets the lessons to be just a bit above your measured performance. The thing that I like most about the product is that the lessons are bite-sized -- can be completed in about 20 minutes. That is perfect for me, as I can easily launch the program, get a little practice in, and then get on with email, etc....for most people, 20 minutes can disappear mindlessly surfing the web. Perfectly sized lessons that make it easy to get in routine practice without the worry of a major time suck. I am very happy that I took the leap of faith on this version, as it is clearly a much improved version compared to the other recent editions. The product has remained true to its roots from many versions ago, and whatever issues have haunted prior editions appears to have been addressed in this edition.

This product helped me learn how to type in just 2 weeks. That was when I was 8. I used to type 25 wpm now I type 91! I recommend this to anyone from a newby to a latebird - it's helpful for both the young and the old!

great software for the mac computer. It is very helpful and easy to use. I would recommend apple user to purchase.
