I LOVE these hats! At first I was going back & forth on them for my son & daughter, as they are rather goofy looking, but sun protection on the beach trumps style for my fair skinned/blonde toddlers! I have big children, and purchased the youth size for my just turned 4yo son (sizing goes small/baby, medium/child, large/youth). It fits him perfectly with room to grow! For my 14m old daughter I purchased the child size, & that fits her perfectly with room to grow! In fact, I wish I had purchased her the youth size as the size difference is really minimal. PROS: Super adjustable! These will fit them for a long time. I really love how fast they dry once wet, and that the brim does not flop down in their faces once wet...it is sturdy, yet very soft/flexible. I love the mesh panels on the sides that let their heads breathe, the breakaway clip so they can't be strangled if caught up on anything, and the adjustable chin strap holds them on their sweet heads perfectly. Easily packable, take up no room in the beach bag. CONS: None! I highly recommend these hats, and recommend them to all the parents that come up to us on the beach asking about them! **Pictures show youth size Royal/Black underneath my daughter's child size Pink fossil print hat. Minimal difference in size, the brim & flap is just a bit shorter. Her big brother's youth size fits her perfectly as well...these are SO adjustable! I'd go with youth if your child is 2+ (Unless they are teeny-tiny) and then you won't need another sun hat for years!**

Awesome hat! Great fit and coverage! I have been wanting my daughter to wear a hat along with sunscreen when we go to the park or pool, etc but they have been heavy or not proper fit, etc..but this one is lightweight, adjustable, water resistant, smart strap, upf 50+ and cute. I would definitely recommend it. Oh and I ordered a medium size for my 3 1/2 Yr old girl in case it helps anyone. It's a perfect fit

I bought this for my eight month old daughter and it is exactly what we needed. It synches, so it not only fits her head perfectly right now, but will also grow with her and seems like it will last for years. It does a great job blocking the sun when we're out - both over her eyes and along the back of her neck. The front doesn't lose it's shape when wet and the black lays flat, which is very comfortable for her when she is in her stroller. It's light weight and comfortable enough that, if I distract her when I place it on her head, she forgets it's there and keeps it on. Finally, the straps really help keep it on her head when it's windy and when she remembers it's there and tries taking it off.

These are the best kids hats we have ever purchased. Well covering their entire head, they function in the water, on dry land, in windy conditions... anywhere. Absolutely crucial for hiking, beach play, etc. There are two design flaws to complain about: one is the "safety" break-away connector on one side of where the chin-strap attaches to the hat. I understand the concern of some that the kid will choke themselves, but what actually happens in that they acceidentally pull out the safety-connection instead of lowering the chin strap adjustment. It's just a soft plastic clip, so this part will eventually wear out. That's less "safe" and more paranoid, as a thrashing kid could supply ten times the force this safety attachment requires to break away. The second problem is the fixture at the end of the chin strap. This prevents the adjustable chin strap gripper from sliding right off the end. Unfortunately, that end plastic piece appears to just be glued into the strap and pops off after a day or two of use. We fixed it by placing a key-ring on the bottom of the strap (http://www.amazon.com/Tandy-Leather-Factory-1-Inch-Package/dp/B008YLHMO4/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1437344589&sr=8-3&keywords=key+ring), permanently solving the problem. Despite these two complains, the hat itself is so effective I still give it five stars.

I’ve been looking for a good, lightweight hat with a wide brim to protect our kids from the sun. I don’t like iPlay hats because the material is too sweaty. Unfortunately, the lightweight cotton hats aren’t good for water activities and pools since they don’t dry as quickly. These hats are made of a synthetic wicking material, so they dry quickly when wet but are also breathable and have mesh venting. My kids still get sweaty running around on a sunny day but not as bad as when they wore the iPlay hats. I love the wide brim in the front and in the back. The adjustable back strap makes it convenient for growing kids. I’ll loosen it up to make some space when my daughter’s hair is in a pony tail. I also love the chin strap and how it has an easily adjustable tightener and safety release clip to prevent the hat from accidentally choking a kid. The only con is that in order to keep the shape of the wide brim, I think there is a thin piece of cardboard inside which I’m afraid will lose its structural integrity over many washings. They’ve held up well for the last 6 months as I’ve been putting them in a large mesh bag when I wash them and hang drying them - so we’ll see. Overall, a wonderful, thoughtfully designed hat for children. I assume it’s comfortable too, since my kids keep this hat on longer than any of their other sun hats. It’s a little more expensive than most sun hats but if that’s what it takes to get them to keep it on, then it’s worth it!

Used to have all cotton wide brim hat for a 3 yo, which was cute but would have a wavy front (since there was no firmness inside the brim) which obscures the view of the little one which could be dangerous and since she always tries to lift the front to look better, doesn't give her face good protection from the sun (her eyes may be in shade, but the rest of the face would be in the sun). Bought this after seeing similar ones at REI (same price as Amazon, so definitely recommend testing it on their heads before purchasing) and happy with how it worked. Bought medium for a standard sized 3 yo and tighten the strap in the back to fit her. Works great and it'll accommodate her for many years to come I think. It usually shades her whole face, plus neck area. Great when wet too (doesn't lose the sturdiness of the brim). What is also worth mentioning is the safety strap feature - if the neck strap gets stuck or pulled with a certain force, it'll detach itself so as not to be a strangulation hazard. It's very well made and does not come off when she's running around and putting it on and off, but when it's pulled suddenly or hard, it'll detach itself. It's easy to re-attach as well (even for a 3 yo). Also has a ventilation band surrounding the base which keeps the head cool. Washes great and light weight. Would buy again. In fact, thinking of getting another one for school.

I bought this sun hat for my super pale baby and I love it! I'm not sure why the product image shows such a long piece of string and sliding clasp hanging down, because the product that I received actually has an awesome little strap and click-shut clasp (quite the technical term I know) that goes under baby's chin and is fully adjustable. I think it's pretty comfortable too because it doesn't seem to bother him at all! Even the strap around the back of the head is easy to tighten and loosen so that it fits his little melon perfectly. No matter how much he moves his head around or even grabs at it, the hat stays put so he stays protected. Highly recommend!

Each time I am in the playground with my 20-month-old, another mom stops me and asks where I got this hat. And 99% of the time, they order it on Amazon for their child right there on the spot. Since getting this hat, it has happened 4 times, and our nanny told me the same, that she's had strangers come up and ask if they could look at the hat to see the brand. OK, it's just a hat. But I have purchased at least 23 different types of sun hats so my opinion comes from years of experience dealing with a toddler who either got burned wearing a "sun" hat or just flat out screamed whenever I tried to put anything on her head. My second daughter was the latter. Could not and would not keep her hat on. I tried every style made all around the world - from Australia to Germany. Bought from Gap, H&M, ithink, and all those other brands from children's place, iPlay, carters etc... She has worn this hat since the day we got it. It wicks sweat so their head stays cool. It's breatheable. And my kids play in the sprinkers and the water beads just bounce off their hats so it is never soaking. So they don't want to take it off. If you're looking for that one hat, just buy this. I grew up in Australia wearing aussie sun hats and this is comparable to that. Although the hats we wore back in the mid 80s were not as breathable as these.

This hat is PERFECT!! My son is 3 years old and has a fairly large head. It fit good especially with the strap in the back that you can adjust. I wish it came down a little farther but overall it's AMAZING! The wide brim shades his face, the mesh keeps him cool and the back flap protects his neck. We were at the beach all day and I felt confident that he wasn't going to get burned. (I of course applied sunscreen as well) I was a little hesitant at first bc of the price but I'm telling you...WORTH EVERY PENNY!!!

I cannot stress enough how much we love this hat! Our son is a year and a half old and recently started to throw his baseball cap off. Living in a hot and sunny climate with little shade we knew we had to find a solution so that he could continue to be outdoors with the sun's powerful rays...this is the solution!!! I sat and looked at the hat for awhile trying to decide if the thirty some odd dollars is worth it for a hat but it really is! The chin strap is a savior - our son tried to pull it first time we put it on him. It didnt budge and he just let it be and continued on with what he was doing...amazing...no struggle, no tears. Just a happy little boy who can now play outside longer. Hat features are fantastic...chin strap like I mentioned is perfect, its good material, not scratchy or uncomfortable. The hat itself is thin enough to be comfy in the heat but thick enough to protect and it is waterproof. Our toddler went into the pool with it and splashed lots of water on it and it just repelled right off the hat. Hat also has breathable mesh like areas around the head which allows for air flow. The beauty of this hat is our son will wear it for hours then take it off and his head and hair are not all sticky and sweaty...genius! There is also a neck flap which is great for avoiding sunburn on child's neck. Also, this is important...there is a tightening strap around the head where you can adjust size...so my tip for sizing is to get the child size for ages 2-5 even if your child is under 2! It will tighten enough to fit your baby's head now and will last for so much longer which will save you money and make the price of the hat easier to swallow! Overall wonderful hat...I have already recommended it to a few people I know and I am planning on buying more for any more kids we have.
