When I bought this I paid under $100. After using it, I would have expected to pay upwards to $150 on this scanner. Some may say that the software included is pretty weak, but the fact is that it works perfect for scanning images or pdf's into a folder. Any post processing is up to you. I bought this to replace the NEAT portable scanner which failed just after a year. This scanner does not scan directly into the NEAT software but it scans to a folder that I simply import right into the program. This is perfect for occasional use or anyone on the go. What I like: Fast Excellent quality scans Duplex Aligns itself Multiple page scanning (manual feed) Included carry/storage bag What I don't like...Nothing. It's exactly what I expected it to be.

I was debating on whether or not to get this scanner or the SVP 2-in-1 scanner. Now that I have had a chance to use the DS720D, I am very happy with the decision I made. The main thing I like about it is the control you have in the software for how pages are scanned. When scanning a document, you have the option to capture pages as an image file or PDF. If you choose to do a single page PDF, the software scans the first page then gives you 30 seconds to insert the next at which point you can just insert a new page and it will continue scanning each paper into its own file; This is very handy for streamlined scanning. The multi-page option works the same way, only every scan is added to the same document. Having the duplex option is really nice too, as it keeps you from needing to send the same page through twice. Pros: +Duplex scanning +B&W, Gray scale, and color opotions +100 to 600 dpi options +Pretty fast scanning (depending on you settings) +Brother scanning software is simple and allows some automation +Large range of paper sizes supported unlike some other scanners Cons: -While it has a paper alignment slider, occasionally the paper will start pulling to the side. This is expected, and you get used to getting it in straight, but still a bummer when it happens -Requires software to scan (doesn't support standalone scanning to an SD card). This is one reason I bought this one, but it would be a nice feature -Included bonus software isn't available online, only on the CD (Brother scan software can be downloaded) -Takes some work to get longer papers to scan properly (have to set it to "Max" paper size)

I was so happy with this scanner that I called my brother and he bought one too. We got together to begin the massive project of scanning our family photos. Our mother was good at writing on the back of the photos, so we definitely wanted a duplex scan and everything I had read suggested we wanted 600dpi or better. I bought mine first and I use Windows, I emailed him a pic at 600 dpi and it was about 12MB. He uses Ubuntu and scanned a pic to me at 600 dpi and it was just over 400kb!! I installed Ubuntu as a dual boot on my 'spare' computer, and after installing Brother's driver for my version of Linux, I got the same result!! I tucked my scanner into my suitcase and flew to him (and the pictures), with our two scanners we scanned over 4000 pictures in a day and a half, total size was 1.3GB, we have many more to go. It took more time to remove the pictures from the photo albums then it did to scan them. We turned the pictures to the correct position prior to scanning. Even in Ubuntu, turning them with software expands them over 2MB, in Windows they expand to 8MB. With the properties window left open it is easy to manually adjust the scanning size dimensions in Ubuntu, in Windows you can set it to automatically determine the size. I fed old newspaper pics, old polaroids, some pics were 1.5" x 1.5", some pics were on thick paper from the 1920's. These little scanners treated them all alike, it gives a little chug when it grips the photo, then with a click of the scan button it zips the picture right through the rollers. and the digital image is created. I do have a flatbed scanner but it takes 30 seconds to scan one side of the image, this little scanner can scan both sides in 3 seconds, it connects via USB so you plug it in when you need it and put it in a drawer when you don't. What's not to love?

This little scanner is amazing. The software is simple and minimal. It plugs right into your USB without the need for an additional power source and starts working right away. I was scanning a license with a word document open and amazingly, without the intended purpose it scanned the image right into my document. I have always been a fan of brother products since first using them in the military.

The Brother Mobile Color Page Scanner is great. It's compact so it doesn't take up much room (in fact, it fits on a windowsill). It comes with several pieces of software, some of which are redundant or unneccesary, and/or not user friendly. The only software you need from the CD is DS Mobile Capture; of the two different pieces of scanning software, it's easier to use, more intuitive, less graphically busy. Paper Port is harder to use and more graphically busy. Don't install the "button manager" software, as it's totally unnecessary. Use: Put edge of paper in scanner, hit scan button in software, and then it automatically feeds the page through the scanner. Then you get a 30 second timer to put the next page in and have it be attached to the same file. Or you can hit cancel if you are done with that file. Very easy. I was a little worried about scanning both sides at once, but it works out just fine. We're making our way through all our old documents and converting them to digital, to free up drawer space in our house. My husband spent about an hour and got through a two-inch stack of paper, so that's pretty good.

I bought this specifically to archive mail and past receipts. Its very small and scans paperwork quickly which is great. It also scans longer documents- legal and lengthy receipts have been no problem. The software is functional but very annoying to use. I'd highly recommend increasing the default contrast to a higher number- maybe something like 79; and then scanning in greyscale. I'd also recommend enabling multi-page scanning and setting the timeout value to something smaller like 10 seconds. This allows you to easily feed in the first page of a document and then hit scan, once the first page finishes (no earlier!) add in the second page. It will add the next page to the document perfectly. I would also recommend saving it directly to PDF in a directory of your choosing. As a hint, be sure to have the input and ouput sides of the scanner clear- if it gets gummed up at all it will cause odd stretch artifacts in the document. Similarly, if you feed in a second page before the first page fully stops, it will treat the two pages as one large page which you don't want. Also be sure to set the rail that guides the paper in for each document, otherwise the paper will get crooked and the scan will not turn out well. Comparing this to other scanners- I would only use this for documents & receipts. I would not scan pictures with this. For that I have another scanner- a Canon CanoScan 900F MkII. That scanner scans pictures very well. It also scans documents well, producing filesizes smaller than the output of this Brother scanner, but it takes MUCH longer to process and scan. I also shopped the other brother scanners. I picked this one because I wanted duplex capability which saves a lot of time. Unfortunately the only way to enable/disable duplex is via the settings menu. I wish there were two buttons to scan "duplex scan" and "normal scan". Even though I wish it was easier to use, the duplex capability is still great. The wifi model didn't seem attractive- I didn't like how you would have reduced ability to control settings and also I didn't like how you are unable to connect the scanner via USB as a normal TWAIN device (it forces you to scan to a SD card if you don't want to use wifi). So overall + Fast + Multi page & double sided scanning works well + Fair price - Image processing in SW is clunky / not as strong as competition - Duplex mode is annoying to enable and disable - Some settings are hard to find in software

I LOVE this scanner! I do a lot of family history & genealogical research so i had a TON of very old and very delicate documents, newspaper clippings and photos to scan which took forever on a traditional scanner. I was able to scan a lot of items very quickly, work that would have normally taken me several days working hours at a time took me merely 1-2 hours! It handled all of my documents and photos wonderfully! It was able to scan 100+ year old, thickly matted, photos easily as well as the tiniest newspaper clippings (about 1"x1") from 1955 and earlier. It was so gentle with priceless family photos that cannot be reproduced or replaced and the scan quality is wonderful! I am extremely happy with my purchase!!

I purchased this scanner since our office has gone mostly paperless. Thus, the decreasing number of documents that come in on paper, instead of pdf, have to be scanned to avoid having to file them. The same goes for personal receipts, bills, etc. that we no longer bother to file. I was quite tired of manually scanning with our HP all-in-one whose software long ago broke, making sheet-fed scanning impossible, thereby making scanning multiple pages very tedious. This compact Brother scanner is very handy, since it is small enough to put on my computer desk so it is close at hand. That and the ability to scan both sides of a page makes scanning go much quicker than before. Not as fast as sheet-fed duplex scanning, but we don't do enough scanning to make that investment worthwhile. I tried but quickly discarded the supplied software applications. Instead, I scan directly into (full) Acrobat with the software set to automatically OCR the input. The Create PDF from scanner menu option lets you quickly switch between single and double-sided scanning, as well as making all the scanner options easily available. It is simple to scan a multi-page document, you just keep feeding pages until you cancel additional scanning, and Acrobat puts all scanned pages into one document. This scanner is a great solution for a small business or home office.

Another great buy from Amazon. This product works better than I thought anything that portable could. If you need to scan any type of document this is a must have. Since I have purchased this product my piles of paper have disappeared. Setup and use is a breeze. The images are professional quality and scan speeds are really fast. I just can say enough good things.

I've been using sheetfed scanners for many years (since the earlier Visioneer/Paperport models) and this has been the best one yet. In fact, after using it for 3 years, I don't really see a reason to replace it like I have others. I had the previous Brother model with was nice but still had room for improvement. The design of this scanner is a major improvement over any previous sheetfed scanner I've had. Specifically, the cleaning is SO much easier. I haven't had to clean it as often as others, but when I do it is incredibly easy. Just tilt the top piece open and you have clear access to rollers and scanning service! Compared to having to remove shell pieces, lifting up rollers and shoving a cotton swab into and dragging it from side to side, this designed was reason enough to upgrade. As for the rest of it, I don't really have much to complain about. Double sided scanning works well and is definitely a time saver, and the quality of the scanning is good (I scan documents only, no photos). I also like the compact size and the straight paper path. During scanning some times it will cut off a part of the document if it has a very dark color along the lead or trailing edge (common with these scanners) even while scanning in color, and when scanning in grayscale it seems almost impossible to get a scan where the white is actually white. It seems to scan in very low contrast even if I boost the contrast in settings. I have found it easier to scan first in color and then convert to grayscale afterwards (the scanning speeds it he same for color/grayscale).
