To my way of thinking, this device is the absolute best way to do your on-site backups. With INTERNAL hard drives as cheap as they are right now (you can get 2TB for less than $100 in May of 2015), there's no excuse NOT to back up every piece of data you have, multiple times, in a rotating schedule. With this device, you can purchase and use internal hard drives as if they were external. The difference is that internal hard drives cost much less than external drives, because you don't also have to buy the case, power supply, and interface each time. So you connect this device to your computer's USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 high speed port, then plug in just about any hard drive you want and use it. Easy-peasey. The only really minor drawback to this process (not this device) is usually you have to format a new hard drive to get it to work. I have done a LOT of research on different ways to back up my programs and my data (especially in light of ransomware and other new malware threats), and using this device with several hard drives in rotation tops the list.

My favorite laptop crashed on me, stuck in a circular boot. I needed data from the hard drive before tossing my beloved machine in the junk closet. Called a home tech from a local ad he suggested I allow him to take it back to his shop and try to pull the data for a fee. I declined. Too much student work and their personal ID information, including SS numbers etc, as well as my tax information from several years. Called a second tech, who installed a new hard drive, leaving the SSD intact. Still no reboot. We talked over a beer or two and he decided to share this product with me AND I LOVE IT!!! Simple to use and the minute I plugged the crashed drive into this product which was connected to my back-up computer, I immediately saw my data. Transferred the data to the back-up joint, no problems, no fuss, no mess.

I have owned this item for 30 minutes and I want to hug it. I have a Seagate external hard drive that just stopped working for no apparent reason. Unfortunately, on this drive I had stored all photos (scanned photos from childhood) of me and my husband. I have tax returns saved as PDF files on it and I thought all was lost. I spoke with people about what to do and everyone said take it somewhere and have the data retrieved but it is expensive. I didn't want to spend a bunch of money but my biggest worry was a stranger is going to see my tax returns. I decided to google ways to extract data from hard drives and a you tube video showed the iDsonix and it looked way too easy. I hopped on Amazon and paid 22.00 or so and it arrived today. It was so easy I am still in shock. Truly, I plugged in the device (power and usb) and inserted my hard drive and everything was there in my free agent drive F: - I HAVE EVERYTHING BACK!!!!!! I am so happy it was hard to type this because words can't express my relief.

Nothing is worse then the dreaded "hard drive failure" on your computer. It happened to me and we were unable to load the old information from the drive to the new one. With this we could read the old drive and move any information I needed to the new one with no hassle and I didn't lose any information. I was relieved that I found this product and it worked so well. The product is so easy to used. It arrived on time and works well. I still have it connected several months later. I can retrieve any other information as needed.

Man this thing is freaking awesome! I had 2 laptops from Iraq that was destroyed in the travel back home and have been sitting in my closet for like 8 years with a ton of pics and memories. I went on amazon for some resolve and shopped this item! Did the necessary surgery for removing the hard drives out of my laptops and this thing came in the mail 2 days later and PRESTO...I got all my info back and am able to transfer to my new computers in my home office....one is Windows 10 and the other is Windows Vista and it works on both!! LIFESAVER!

I have used this a few times with great results, but recently used it to help in my converting my mid-2012 Macbook Pro to a solid-state drive. This came in extremely helpful as I used it to hold my new SSD while I reformatted it to work with my mac and to install my Yosemite operating system. It was much quicker than my internal drive. One nice feature is that I was abel to externally boot up several different hard drives using this dock. I've had trouble booting externally using different Seagate drives. I'm really impressed with the versatility of this drive as well as the speed. Yes the cables are a bit short, but I'm still able to have the AC power cable reach from the floor to the desk placement hidden under my monitor stand. I'm now using this as a more permanent attachment to my computer rather than just as a tool to transfer data between drives.

Computer guy told me that my data was lost forever. I wasn't willing to give up that easily so I bought this guy with little expectation and high hope. Believe it or not, I popped my hard drive in and voila, there was the last 4 years of my computer usage. I simply loaded everything back onto my laptop (with the new harddrive) and did a happy dance. This device was a life saver! I thought I was going to either lose my data or end up paying an arm and a leg to one of those recovery companies. I'm hanging on to this and my old drive. You never know.... For reference I have a Samsung series 7 chronos 700z.

This has been a really great thing to have around. I got rid of my desktop in favor of a laptop, but didn't want to lose my 3 TB of movies and music. With this product, I have a universal hard drive dock that is small, portable, and reliable. I've been using it for six months now, and have never had an issue. Drives dock easily, the USB 3.0 is fast enough to watch movies that are on the drive without issues, and I can store drives and the dock in a drawer without any hassles. I would definitely recommend this dock to anyone I know.

Here are the "good" and "bad" on this product. . . ADVANTAGES . 1. It is the highest rated HD dock among users - only one dissatisfied user with a single star. . 2. The unit works with an 8TB hard drive without any problems. . 3. Unlike a majority of competing products with a USB 3.0 connection, this has an additional eSATA connector. For DirecTV users who want more than 1TB on their TV cable receiver, they can up the storage to 12GB with this unit. . 4. This upright design has several advantages over the horizontal HD dock. First, it uses less space. Second, gravity pushes the two HD SATA connectors against the receiving slots on the unit - there is a firm electrical connection. Third, there is more cooling with the vertical design. Hard drive heat travels up and dissipates in the air. . . DISADVANTAGES . 1. Personally, I never heard of iDsonix. Since the brand is not established, quality and reliability are unknown.

Loved how easy it was to use. I was upgrading my laptop to SSD so I popped in the new 500 GB Samsung EVO SSD into the "toaster" and was able to clone the old drive. Also used it to get information from my wife's old hard drive. The drives must be SATA because this will not work with IDE drives. This was much easier than having to plug in power, SATA cables and wall warts. Well worth the price. Would recommend to a friend.
