Great small office switch
Got this switch for working with equipment at work, and so far it has been great. I needed the Gigabit speed, along with IGMP snooping and multicast features, without having to deal with a fully managed switch. this is great. Plug and play. For anyone that just needs for a robust office switch, this is great. has the bandwidth for VoIP, AVoverIP, and zippy fast LAN speed for everything else. Perfect for my application and I couldn't find a better price on a comparable switch. Very happy with this device. PLUS it's whisper quiet. Super bonus.

A perfect little switch
I just moved into a new house and discovered the builder ran cat 6 cables from every room to a panel in the master bedroom that doesn’t have power! Why would a builder do such a thing? I have no idea. This little switch solved my problems straight away. I added a Poe power injector in a room with power and put this switch in the panel. All 5 of my rooms now enjoy GB speeds with Ethernet, no need for WiFi and stutter free 4K movies. Perfect little switch, would buy it again.

Better than the cheaper TP Link
So, I originally purchased the "TP-Link 8-Port Fast Ethernet Unmanaged PoE Switch with 57W 4-PoE Ports". I didn't like it. I was shocked a number of times when touching the case. I then purchased this "NETGEAR 8-Port Gigabit Smart Managed Plus Switch, 53w 4xPoE, ProSAFE Lifetime Protection (GS108PEv3)" and am much happier. I still have the TP-LINK in operation, but I like NOT being shocked by the Netgear switch. ;-)

Great POE switch
Easy plug-in-play for non techies. for the newbs...you MUST have a router in "front" of the switch for DHCP assignment. You cannot just plug your modem directly into the switch(unless you have a business account from your IPS which allows multiple static addresses or DHCP). If you have any issues Google is your friend. Don't leave bad feedback because you don't understand how to use this switch...do your research first. The fan is a little annoying, definitely not using a quality fan. You can easily purchase a quieter Sunon fan specifically for this model on eBay. I have mine setup in an enclosed entertainment center(yes, it vented) and cannot hear it. If you have it out in the open, on a desk, or sitting next to you it will become annoying. Generally a simple setup would be: modem --> router --> switch --> devices(computers/access points/surv. cameras)

Nice switch for small-ish PoE networks
I purchased this switch for the house to consolidate a few smaller and older switched that were in use. This has worked out well for me and I do recommend this switch for home or small buisness use. Pros: - Desktop or rack mountable - rack ears included - Fast - Gb speeds are good and are plenty for my use case - Quiet - there is a small fan on this unit, and up close I can hear it, but tucked away it is not noticeable - PoE - I have several PoE devices and this switch powers them just fine - # of ports - This is the first switch I have owned that was more than 8 ports, and it is nice having things consolidated and having an overall more simple network architecture - Some network management capability (Flow control, VLANs, etc.) Cons: - So far none So far this switch has allowed me to re-work my network to be more logical, segment certain devices, centrally power PoE devices, and track network usage easier (port mirroring as well as just easy view of port throughput in the management console). The unit is quiet, functional, was easy to setup, and has a few ports left for future expansion. I haven't used all of the features of this switch yet, but I think it is meeting my requirements perfectly.

Nice upgrade
I have a home network that includes several POE IP security cameras. The network is all Cat6 and was originally set up with two Zyxel 8-port POE Switches which worked great. The system has grown larger, so upgraded to two NETGEAR JGS516PE-100NAS 16-Port switches. One switch handles cameras at one end of the network, and a second switch handles all other traffic on the other side. They connect together seamlessly and without hassles of any kind. There has been no degradation of picture quality from the cameras and they have performed consistently. One of them is in an enclosed space directly under the roof which gets quite hot in the summer, but has survived for two summers and show no signs of degradation. During subsequent wiring, I have accidentally pulled the switch off a low shelf and it has survived. I have purchased a third of these wonderful switches in case of a failure, but I expect the backup switch to remain in its plastic bag for the foreseeable future. We have had several power outages, and the switches have restored themselves gracefully within a few minutes. Both this switch and the Zyxel have proven to be excellent switches, but here is my comparison. This switch has a much larger footprint than the Zyxel, but it also has an additional 15w of power for POE. This switch has a very quiet fan, while the Zyxel has no fan at all. (Regardless, the Zyxel did not have a problem with the heat in an attic space). I cannot hear the fan running, even when I am standing next to it.

finally my internet works like perfect. After using many low priced switches
finally my internet works like perfect. After using many low priced switches, and trouble shooting everything else including blaming my internet service provider, I now getting full continuous high speed internet on all departments. The switch does not generate any heat and is super silent. Have not yet configured the managed features nor use the POE ports.... but I am very impressed and pleased with this product thus far.

Workhorse.
Plug and play, what can I say? Doesn't get any easier than that, but if you need to allocate bandwitdth, etc it's no problem either. The 12 ports are clearly labeled for power and non power. I was even able to use the mounting brackets to mount to a wall instead of a rack. I've been using for 3 months and haven't even had to reboot one time. I highly recommend this switch to anyone.

Update the firmware!
Review of GS105PE. Received this switch sometime back and couldn't get it to work as I felt it was advertised ... to power both the switch and an attached PoE clock. The power requirements for both devices should have been acceptable, but it would only power the switch and flash the port where the clock was attached. Netgear has recently updated the firmware to v1.4.0.6 and this firmware update did the trick. They fixed something in the firmware that now recognizes the full power available; I'm a happy camper now. http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/GS105PE/GS105PE_V1.4.0.6.zip

Fans noisy, otherwise flawless device
I have this mounted in a server rack in the basement of my house and have not had any issues with the unit. The fan is noisy, but my install location is isolated enough that I never hear it unless I walk past the rack. PoE portion works without any issue, no configuration necessary, accepted my netgear router which acts as my dhcp. Comes with mounting hardware, power plug in the back can be swapped out for any other cable (in case you have a shallow rack or mounting).
