Beats one that cost a lot more

Mine sounds fine and doesn't need tuning any more often than any of my other ukes. It sounds much better than my Cordoba 15SM Soprano Ukulele for which I paid $85 and on which it is very difficult to get a decent sound from any note in the first fret. I don't have that problem with this Kala uke and I like the sound of this one far better. I was told that when one buys instruments in this price range, it is a good idea to examine the specific instrument that one is going to buy, because the quality control varies from instrument to instrument. Mine looks nice and more importantly has a pleasing sound and is easy to fret and play. At this price, I might even buy another one or two for some teens to learn on when they come to visit (or maybe for myself).

A good value for the price, fun instrument!

I love this Ukelele. I have a more expensive concert size but this little soprano is my favorite for taking along on trips and in the backyard for impromptu music moments. It does need to be tuned frequently and I keep a Snark tuner on it for quick adjustments between songs. It has a nice bright sound and came with decent strings but I will probably upgrade the strings when it is time to change them. I am hoping that will fixed the frequent tuning issue. All in all for the money it was a great buy and I would recommend it as a starter Uke or as an economical travel instrument. The case that came with it is very lightweight without significant padding. It is adequate but probably would not prevent damage in case of a drop or fall.

Beautiful Little Uke

I purchased the Uke as a present for my wife. I searched the internet to find the best brand Ukuleles for beginners. Kala was a consistent top 5 brand. The Ka-15s is a beautiful soprano Uke with a beautiful finish. The wood is beautiful and I was surprised at the craftsmanship of this fairly inexpensive instrument. It sounds wonderful and authentic. The tuners are geared and great quality and the instrument stays tuned after the initial break in and stretching of the strings. This instrument will provide lots of fun for years to come.

and I’m glad I did

I decided to purchase this based on other reviews, and I’m glad I did. The ukulele has nice sound and seems to be well made. The gig bag is just kind of ok. I bough a tuner and felt picks from another vendor and was surprised to find this one came with a tuner and a DVD. I ended up giving the extra tuner to my son for his guitar. I can’t fit the tuner in the bag (the outside pocket lays flat - great for picks, not great for the tuner because it feels like it’s pressing against the uke). Overall, I am pleased with the purchase, especially the unexpected extras, but I will likely get a hard case with more storage in the future.

Excellent Quality and great value for the price

This instrument is totally amazing - beautifully crafted, wonderful sound and easy to play. The case is high quality and protects the instrument well. The quality and price of this instrument can not be beaten - much better than our local Music and Arts store. I look forward to years of enjoyment - strumming my Uke. the product was well packed and arrived in pristine condition. Thank you so much. Great Starter Uke Set!

I really wanted to get a better Ukulele after receiving a much cheaper version as a gag gift. I was originally skeptical of this Ukulele due to it's lower price, however I was pleasantly surprised! Although the strings are a sort of plastic, the chords sound really nice and the sound reverberates well with the base of the Ukulele. The appearance of the Ukulele is also really pretty with the mahogany finish and it doesn't feel cheap either! I love this instrument and I try to play this 3 times every week. I would recommend this to any body wanting to start an instrument!

Great little starter ukulele

I love this little ukulele, affectionately named "Iz". I picked it up a couple weeks ago and am having a blast learning new songs. Never having played an instrument before (wait...does the clarinet in grade school count?), I didn't know what to expect. But it's easy, super easy. I work from home and Iz stays right next to me so when I need a break, I can just grab it and strum.

Quality Ukulele with FREE Lanikai Bag

I ordered the Ukulele with the tuner. Although, I got the ukulele with a very nice Lanikai bag for the price of just the ukulele alone! When I opened the box I was hoping to find a tuner. Although, when I didn't see one I was kind of disappointed because all I saw was the smaller box with the ukulele inside of it. I wasn't too upset though because the price of just the ukulele is 54.99 and the price of the ukulele and the tuner was also that. So I wasn't getting any less I paid for. Although to my surprise when I opened the smaller box with the ukulele, it had the ukulele inside of the Lanikai bag! I was very pleased to see this because I didn't pay the extra for the bag! I was a little afraid that they had sent me the Lanikai ukulele but when I opened the bag it was the Kala-15S which made me very pleased! The ukulele comes with Aquila Nylgut strings and was a bit out of tune. Although this was a good thing because I needed to learn how to tune a ukulele anyway. After I tuned it I tried it out by strumming it a couple times and wow the sound was loud and rich and it sounded amazing (not the chord really but the quality of the sound). The ukulele was in new condition when I got it and was well protected for the shipping. I am very pleased with my order and recommend this ukulele.

Starter kit vs Kala KA-15S

I bought the starter kit by Kala and liked the uke but I had opted to get it partly for the tuner. It was missing from the package so I found tuning apps (and YouTube by ear) which is effective and realized a tuner isn't necessary. I decided to try the Kala KA-15S since it kept coming up everywhere as the best for a beginner and works well into the intermediate stages... That intrigued me since I'm learning to play quite quickly. It's not only a beautiful instrument, the sound also carries further and is much more distinct than the uke in the starter kit. Not to mention... The case that came with the starter kit was just a flimsy sack. This uke came with a beautiful, soft (quality!) case. I'm so happy I decided to return the other and try this one. Quality Instrument

Keep in mind, ukulele's typically look like toys to me, so I was already skeptical about ordering one online. I talked to a guy at the guitar shop I frequent, he recommended Kala Brand. This ukulele does not look like a toy, it looks and sounds like a professional instrument. Everything about this ukulele is nice. It stays in tune, plays well, has a faux bone nut and bridge, brass frets, everything you would look for in a quality stringed instrument. Its made in China, but obviously to some strict specs. They gig bag is a little thin, but better than I expected.
