I let my neighbor's kids tried it out. I had listen to them, the modulation is very loud without so much of mushy sound. Remember, loud audio will cut through popping noise during the weak signal. The range throughout the neighborhood to dozen of blocks away, still very readable copy. No monthly service fees. Rechargeable AA batteries work very well. Remember; this walkie talkies is beyond toy level in performance and range. The range is depended on: Line -of- sight or blockage do to hills, trees and housing in the way to shorten the range. From high hill top that over look in long way for eyes sight can see, your range can reach well more than 10 air miles away. As of standard line of sight over the flat open land, your range will able to reach from 2 to 3 miles. In resident area, your range will average from 1/2 to 3/4 mile, up to 1 mile.

I literally brought 3 sets of walkie talkies (and returned all 3 as well), until I found these. The first 2 were too small to even take seriously (even as a toy) and the last were high-end, but had too many buttons my 6 year old could "explore." I did a google search on "the best walkie talkies for kids" and these came up as #1. I figured this would be my last "try" at "getting it right," just in time for my daughter's 6th birthday. They actually arrived on her birthday (which made it even better); she was so excited!!! I put batteries in them and she hasn't but them down since. For a pair marketed for "kids," the sound is really clear. She's already dropped them a few times and they still work flawlessly. I would definitely recommend these for parents wanting to buy their kids a good set of walkie talkies.

My son wanted "Spy Gear" radios for his birthday and after buying them and not being able to talk to each other from 20 feet away, we returned them and bought these for $4 more. These are great!! they are clear, easy to use and have a good range on them. They are as good as mine that I paid $75 for. They seem to be really good on battery life a well. My son and his friends used them quite a bit and we have only changed the batteries once in 3 months.

Bought this for both myself and my five year old. I had previously picked him up some cheaper made walkies from Toys R Us. They were pretty quick to break. After researching products I found these. They are durable and made for kids. In the months we have had them he has dropped them, banged them (running around) and even gotten them slightly wet…..but they are still going strong. I am using rechargeable batteries for them right now since they seem to drain the batteries fairly fast.

I bought these and a sleeping bag for my 9 year old son for his birthday. He freaking loves them. I don’t know how far exact these go but they make it all the way to the little corner store down the road from us where he is allowed to go and buy his own pop. He loves that. Also him and the neighbor kid have way too much fun play hiding with these. I hope this helps. :)

I got these for my 11-year-old nephew, and it was such a fun present! He opened them immediately and played with them non-stop for the better part of the afternoon. I think these are bound to amuse and entertain kids of almost any age, and most adults too. The charging base takes three AA batteries. The quality of these is fantastic, and I believe they will last for a long time without breaking. They are small, and can easily fit in your pocket. Besides using them for playtime, I could see the benefit of these for actual walkie talkie use as well, say for a camping trip, or to keep in touch at a theme park. I read other reviews claiming the range of these walkie talkies is about a mile and a half to two miles, and I think that's accurate. We didn't take them quite that far yet, but we had no problems with crackling or speaking with clarity. Makes a great gift!

Oh, man, I love these Retevis RT628 Walkie Talkies!! (OVER) I would have loved to have them as a kid! (OVER) My 4-year-old daughter and I run around the house talking through these without any interference or static (OVER) "Daddy, why do you keep saying 'over' when you talk to me?" Because they are walkie-talkies!!! "Roger that, daddy!!" They are very easy to use, great size for small hands and clear. I've been a little less than a 1/4 mile away with no drop in signal or voice (other than when my daughter forgets to push the button to talk). The handsets have a few buttons to adjust sound or change frequency and some menu items, but for straight walkie-talkie'ing, just power on and press the talk button. (and let go to listen to the other person). The one thing I don't like is there is a little 'chirp' sound like the old Motorola/Nextel 'push-to-talk' features. My daughter likes it, but she is 4 and has no concept of stealth. She uses it when she is two feet away (I CAN HEAR YOU WITHOUT THE WALKIE-TALKIE, SWEETY!!) Anyway - these are a lot of fun and seem very professional with sound clarity and distance for the price. Easy enough for a 4 year old to use too (OVER)

After an initial problem with one cutting out, customer service reached out to me and was very responsive to my concerns. They sent me a replacement at no cost and now they work great. No issues at all. Kids absolutely love them. There are a few buttons on there that confuse the kids but once they get the hang of it, they work really, really well. The walkie talkies also have a great range. I am able to talk to my kids that are across the street while I'm inside the house and still have very clear signal. Very satisfied with my order now. Would recommend!

Oh my gosh...we gave these walkie talkies to our now 6 year old grandson at a family birthday get together for the February birthdays...and we didn't see half of the family for over an hour 1/2. They had so much fun with them!!! And I am talking young and old!!! Love them!!! great range, great audio.....great size!

These were a birthday present and have suffered untold abuse perpetrated by an active group of kids. I have no doubts they’ve been dropped during the course of their great adventures and banged off God knows what. Despite all that, they have very minimal battle scarring and still work just as they did out of the box. My stock pile of batteries is still healthy and the kids are still happy. Parenting win!
