I'm like you, I read all the reviews before I buy a product. I bought this kit because one of the notes on my 6 foot Yamaha G3 grand piano was out of tune, and I wanted to tune it myself. When I got the kit, I accidentally tightened one of the strings on my piano too much, and the string popped. I had my piano tuner come out and replace the string. When he came over, I showed him this piano tuning kit that I had just bought, and he said that the tuning hammer was really nice and that he really liked the wooden handle on it. He actually ended up using the tuning hammer that came with this kit to tune the new string he replaced instead of using his own tuning hammer. The tuning hammer fit my Yamaha grand piano flawlessly. I would highly recommend this kit, and my piano tuner would recommend it as well!

As a complete novice to piano tuning I purchased this based on reading the reviews of other purchasers. Though I have nothing to compare this to, I can't see any other kit offering anyting special or added to what this kit supplied, as I was able to tune our old upright using this kit and not having to purchase anything else. The "hammer" as it is called is STURDY. I would not think about it too much if I was looking for such a kit cuz this one offers everything you need at a fair price.

Awesome! Nothing is more annoying than having a perfectly-tuned piano and then having one or two strings go flat and having to either pony up more $$$$ for a tiny fix or having to wait another X months until you get the whole tuning done again. I had the piano tuned by a professional and asked him if he thought it was reasonable for me to get a kit like this so I could do some touch-ups between professional tuning. He said go for it, so I did. I've been playing guitar and tuning that for many years, so I didn't think that tuning a piano necessarily involved any voodoo magic. I'm very happy now to be able to touch up that odd string that goes out very quickly and accurately. The piano sounds better than ever. The actual tuning hammer has a #2, star-type socket and the handle is solid wood and nice and heavy. In fact, it looks like a slightly cheaper replica of the [very expensive] professional hammer that my tuner uses. It is very solid, though. The kit has more in it than I needed, but I wanted to get mutes along with the hammer, and I wanted a nice big, heavy hammer, so at this price it was a good deal. You can do a full piano with this kit, or just touch-ups. I'm not taking the plunge and trying to do any full tunings any time soon, but after just a few tries I feel very confident and comfortable using this to fix up those occasional twangers.

The item arrived timely. The first impression is all good: the wooden handle feels comfortable and light. The mutes are adequate, although not very promising for longevity. The important issue is if the tuning wrench fits the tuning pin properly; and it does. Remember, this isn't a $100+ dollars wrench, but it does the job well. I just happen to have a Sole #2 tip lying around, and I exchanged the tip quickly. The Sole tip has the same thread, and fits the tuning pin more snugly. So, in no time this wrench is worth a lot more. Sole #2 tip is a good one, it can be purchased somewhere for a reasonable price. (You can also find Watanabe and Hale tips online, but they have different threads.) The tuning wrench does not extend, even though it resembles one. The temperament strip might be good for an upright piano, but for my grand piano it is much too thick, therefore I have no use for. Overall, for the price, this bag of tools is quite satisfying.

Great product. Quick shipping. Was able to tune my piano I found at a consignment shop in a few hours. The process is a bit tedious but I'm too cheap to pay someone else to do so. Worked perfectly.

This Kit is impressive, specially the Wrench Hammer, it's very robust, I was able to tune my Upright Piano in a couple of hours (first time ever), of course, I need to review a dozen videos on How to do it first, but all I needed was on the bag. Also, the price was one of the best in the Web. I didn't need to contact them, as they have plenty information on the product that was enough for me. I'm very satisfied with this product and I already got a couple of friends asking me if I can tune their Piano after they listen to mine.

My wife and I had inherited an old player piano, and it was in spectacular need of being tuned. From what I had read online (first time having to worry about piano tuning) that it might cost a good bit more than normal to get something this badly out-of-whack back into order... SO... I figured that the worst that would happen if I tried it myself is that some strings would break and I'd have to pay a few more dollars than the tune to get it playable. Luckily that wasn't needed. The tuning hammer set came in, and I had already removed the lid and front of the piano, had the software to get things started (just to get a set of the keys in tune, and then match the rest of the keys to those), and just got to work. Four hours later I had a MUCH, MUCH better sounding piano!!!! The socket on the hammer fit my tuning bolts perfectly, and using the mutes was very intuitive (once you see how they work in a youtube vid!!!). I am very, very pleased. The job was done yesterday, and I fixed some keys that moved a bit overnight (expected, as pitch raising isn't something that I quite grok, so probably did it wrong or something, but no harm, no foul...). The hammer feels solid, and looked exactly as it did when I first started. And, I had to adjust ALL of them... Several times in a few cases.... The mutes (I only really used the rubber ones... the plastic pinchy-type wasn't used, and the felt one was used to mark the last key that I did while tuning!) work great, and the little zipper bag holds everything nicely. I didn't use the mute strip, as it really did seem far too thick for the spacings of my strings... All in all... Great... Also, a previous review mentions a Wurlitzer upright piano tuning video on youtube... Look for that... It was a great help.

I was skeptical at first (and so was everyone around me). However, my first attempt failed but after a few YouTube videos later, I found my own rhythm and in combination with an iPhone tuner app, I have managed to Tune my entire Piano and it sounds great! The kit itself is great. The hand is made out of nice wood and has a nice heavy feel. Does not look cheap. I only ended up using two of the rubber wedges to tune the whole Piano. Good luck!

I just finished tuning my piano. That was a first. Never did that before but quite happy with the result. I have a Yamaha U1SHTA and the hammer fits the tuning pins quite nicely. The kit had a small paper with a link to download a manual explaining how to use the different tools, which was nice for a beginner like me. Overall it took me more than 2 hours to tune my piano and it was quite a pain to start with, but definitely worth the effort! Note: when I first used the hammer, I tried to lower the note by turning the hammer counter-clockwise. To my surprise it seemed quite easy to turn the pin but then realized the note didn't change at all, even after turning more than 90 degrees... then I tried turning clockwise just a bit and same thing, easy to turn and no change in the note. This got me really confused, especially as I never did that before. I didn't want to damage anything, so I ended up going back to the manual and watched some videos on YouTube to see if I was doing anything wrong... turns out I was actually not turning the pin, but was unscrewing the tip of the hammer instead...! I turned the hammer clockwise again until it got much harder. Then I could feel the real force needed to turn the pin and the note finally started to change. After that the tip of the hammer never moved again. I used the hammer countless times (in both directions) to tune all the keys and it worked perfectly.

Has everything you need to tune a piano except the patience. I had never done it before but I bought a piano that was out of tune uniformly across all the keys and I have been tuning it for a week, since "pulling pitch" takes a long time. There are still a few notes that are stubborn about staying in tune, but overall it is in good tune and I have this kit to thank for it. The main advantages of this kit are 1) the tuning hammer has a long handle. You will need all the leverage you can get, so this is a good thing. Turning the keys is HARD and tuning them accurately is even harder. 2) Lots of mutes. A big felt strip which, when properly employed, can save you a lot of time. One large felt mute for the lower strings, two medium rubber mutes for the middle strings, and a small mute with a metal extension handle for the high strings. (This one comes in really handy). The white thing in the picture is another handy tool that I can't describe, but it is for muting the left and right strings so you hear only the middle. 3) Very reasonable price, very good quality. A nice value. The vendor was nice enough to email a pdf of the Users Manual which is well written and gives a step by step guide to using all of the enclosed tools. Also useful: search Youtube for the phrase "How To Tune a Wurlitzer spinet Upright Piano Step by Step full version Tutorial" and the guy in that video will show you exactly what to do. Most of the other video guides are too simplified or are missing important steps. One guy even uses a socket wrench. Use the Wurlitzer one. If you are new to this, patience is your friend. Tuning a piano is HARD and tedious and frequently frustrating. But it gets easier the more you do it. Best of luck. Edit a few months later: Miriam Song just came out with a steel Impact Tuning Hammer that makes tuning your piano a LOT easier. I mean a LOT. Pricier, but worth it.
