This is the best trimmer EVER
This is the best trimmer EVER! I have 5 acres and a large yard to keep trimmed. This thing can trim through even tall weeds, and I love not having to constantly fight with string breaking. The battery lasts me about 40 minutes of heavy trimming. I wish it were just a bit longer as I have to bend slightly over, but it is SO nice to not have to fight to start a gas engine, and mess with all the fluids. Love it.

AMAZING weedeater.
I'm not an outdoorsy guy. I hate doing lawn work. And I have a large yard with tons of trees. I've heard other men have conversations about their weed eaters and the troubles they've had. Multiple trips to Lowes Hardware to get or replace them. I never mention I use an electric weedeater. I feel like my man card would be revoked. HOWEVER, this thing is GREAT. It comes with two batteries so you always have on charged. And provided it's for personal use, you'll get weeks worth off one battery. Never have I come anywhere near close to going through both batteries in one day. It's strong enough that it can tackle anything you throw at it, and it just starts. No pulling a cord. No putting in gas. Just grab it, hit the button, and it's on and working. Again, if you run a lawn service company, you probably don't want this. If you're just a normal guy with a normal yard, buy this. And tell people, please, only if we stand together can we all admit to using electric tools. :)

Nice!
I've only used this twice so far, but I am really liking it. Not having to deal with a wire makes it SO MUCH EASIER to get myself to do yard work. I don't have to carry around a wire, always worrying that I'll get it in the way and accidentally cut it. I don't have to unwind the cord and then wind it back up again afterwards. To me, the most frustrating part of having to use a wire is when I think I'm finished and wind up the cord, but then realize I missed a spot all the way on the other end of the yard. Now, I can just walk back and get the spot I missed! It's amazing. I'm still getting the hang of the whole edging thing, but trimming and weeding is very easy. The battery seems to last more than long enough. I didn't time myself, but the first time I had a LOT of weeds to get rid of so it must have taken more than half an hour at the least. I only had to switch it to the higher setting for a minute or two for some thicker weeds, the rest of the time the lower setting was more than adequate for my yard. It's pretty light-weight.. I'm not that strong and I have a lot of back and shoulder problems, but this trimmer didn't cause me an excessive amount of pain. It is able to be adjusted very easily, including converting from trimmer to edger and back. I don't think it's any heavier than the corded electric one that I'd been using before this. It is a LOT lighter than the old gas one that I used to have, which I never used because it was too heavy (and difficult to start). This one seems just as powerful as the electric one I used to use. I'll have to wait and see how the battery holds up throughout the season, but so far I'm very happy with this trimmer.

Lightweight and easy to use!
I love this trimmer/edger! It's super lightweight--yet well crafted--and my arms don't get fatigued after 30-45 minutes of work. It's also very easy to use--you can adjust it for your height so there's no back strain, etc. The edger works quite well too. You just flip it sideways and wheel it along the edge. It took me a minute or so to get the angle right but once that was sorted, super easy! I used it to edge after I'd already "trenched" with a different tool but it makes a nice clean line--effortless. I charged both batteries and am still on the first charge (first battery). I have a substantial amount of sidewalk and garden beds to edge/trim so the battery life is impressive. Excellent tool for the price. Highly recommend.

Awesome!
I own 8 acres. Three I maintain and landscape, the other 5 are woods. When I mentioned getting one of these everyone I spoke with said battery weed eaters are horrible. NOT true! On the two litium batteries, I can weedeat the entire landscaped property without the pain of mixing oil and gas for fuel, fighting with the pull start and lugging all that weight around. If this can take care of my property I'm sure it can handle others!

It has done a nice job of cutting off weed heads so that they ...
This trimmer is much lighter and easier to use than the old B&D GrassHog it replaced. One quibble--I have given up trying to balance the device on the wheel when trimming edges at sidewalks, because I can't get it to cut a straight line. This spring, It has done a nice job of cutting off weed heads so that they can't set seeds. The included batteries last for 25 to 30 minutes on a charge, compared to 10 minutes or less for the old 18.v GrassHog batteries. But I can't get the whole lawn done on two batteries, so decided to upgrade to 20V 5.0Ah replacement batteries from a competitor, that you can buy on eBay. Night and day difference, and highly recommended. I also purchased the BLACK+DECKER MTD100 3-in-1 Removable Mower Deck for use with this trimmer. It is easy to use to turn the device into a mower, and I will probably use it a lot once the weeds in my lawn stop making flowers. For now though, I find that I get better aim and control at the weeds by not using the deck.

Exactly what I wanted
This 12", BLACK+DECKER LST420 20V MAX Lithium High Performance Trimmer and Edger is exactly what I have been looking for. Our property is comprised of 3 lots so there is quite a bit of landscaping to be tended to. I am a woman without a lot of arm strength so I prefer an electric string trimmer because they aren't as heavy but managing all the extension cords for a corded model is a PITA. This trimmer is just perfect for me because even with the battery installed, it's lightweight and well balanced and easy for me to use. This trimmer comes with two, 2.0Ah, rechargeable, lithium batteries, a battery charger and the trimmer. The trimmer is almost completely assembled. You only have to attach the handle and the guard. You'll need a Philips head screw driver to secure the guard but it's quick and easy - less than 10 minutes. You'll also need to charge the batteries before initial use. The length is adjustable so no matter what your height, you can adjust it to the perfect length. What I really love is that the head flips over for use as an edger. The orange wheel rolls along the edge of the sidewalk so you are able to edge perfectly (and we all know that edging is the key to a manicured lawn.) The line is advanced automatically so no more bumping the trimmer to feed more line. This trimmer is really powerful! I had no issues with any of the vegetation in my yard. It's not as powerful as my husband's gas trimmer but since I can comfortably use it to finish all of my yard without my arms giving out, I'm fine with it being a little less powerful than my husband's trimmer. If you have other Black+Decker tools that use these batteries, it's a big plus. I do so I have several batteries and chargers. However, I also ordered these, larger capacity batteries so I can trim and edge everything all at once without having to wait to recharge my batteries. They aren't Black+Decker brand but they work perfectly. 20V 5.0Ah Replace Battery for Black and Decker MAX Lithium LBXR20 LBXR20-OPE LB20 LBX20 LBX4020 LB2X4020-OPE 2Packs SUN POWER One other big plus for me is this optional, mower attachment. BLACK+DECKER MTD100 3-in-1 Removable Mower Deck I ordered it immediately and I'm so glad I did. I have a very steep slope on one side of my property. It's too steep to safely use a regular mower so we have always had to use a string trimmer to "mow" the slope. It's hard to "mow" evenly with a trimmer but this attachment lets you do just that. It's brilliant! This trimmer comes with one spool of filament installed so you will need to order more unless you hand wind your own. BLACK+DECKER AF-100-3ZP 30ft 0.065" Line String niJsK Trimmer Replacement Spool, 3 Count (2 Pack) The B+D brand is good quality and I'm happy with it. If you want a cordless trimmer that's lightweight and gets the job done, this is a good one to consider.

STILL GOING... Kick-Butt Weed Eater
This Review is for the Black and Decker LST400... Originally purchased back in September of 2014. BLACK+DECKER LST400 12-Inch Lithium High Performance Trimmer and Edger, 20-volt I rarely (if ever) take the time to write reviews, but I feel the need to say something after ~2.5 years using this wonderful little trimmer. It has become my best friend over that time. I live on a 1 acre lot at the edge of a forest and am constantly beating back nature with a push mower, a pole saw and this lightweight workhorse. I know that the world of battery powered trimmers was a desolate wasteland for many years. The batteries were permanently enclosed, the size of small vehicles and weighed about the same, causing painful backaches and severe cases of "noodle-arm" upon completion of a trimming session. I know this from experience... I have one sitting in my garage waiting to be recycled. Add to that the fact that said battery would discharge and die long before I was even close to being done with the job and you have one heavy, noodle inducing pain in the butt. I purchased the B+D trimmer over 2.5 years ago along with the replacement spools listed below and have been loving it ever since. Replacement Spools: BLACK+DECKER AF-100-3ZP 30ft 0.065" Line String Trimmer Replacement Spool, 3-Pack 1. Battery: This battery is awesome. I have kept it plugged in and sitting in the garage since my purchase with no problems. It is small, light, easily installed with a click and powerful. I have never had it run out on me. Now... I don't go try to clear heavy brush with this trimmer... I trim weeds and grass with it. I might run this thing for about 30-40 minutes after I am done mowing. It runs longer than I do after a day in the yard with an old, but trusty push mower. 2. Weight: This thing is LIGHT. Now... granted, I am comparing it to an old Toro battery powered trimmer that might actually contain a car battery, but I also have a gas powered trimmer that is 2-3 times heavier than the B+D. I am easily able to carry this around the yard, even after spending 2 hours pushing a mower up and down the hill on which I live. 3. Adjustable/Size: Some of these trimmers are made for people who are 4 feet tall. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but one would think that a 5'11" man would be considered a pretty easy fit for such equipment. This unit does a good job with adjustment options to make sure one is NOT bending over catching weeds in the face while also ruining his back. 4. String durability/Spool replacement: I bought 3 replacement spools of trimmer line at the time I made my first purchase and still haven't used them all. Replacing them is easy... no more fighting with the business end of a trimmer for 10 minutes only to find out you didn't spool the line correctly. One should simply not have to stare down the barrel of one of these things longer than you are actually pulling the trigger. 5. Durability: While I know many will say that 2.5 years is not that long and that my expectations are a bit low to be happy with performance out this far. Well... in this day and age of planned obsolescence and disposable products, I have learned to be impressed with a power tool that does what it is supposed to without snapping in half or frying itself in less than a year. Just sayin'. All in all, I love this thing. Hope the review helps.

I"m sooo glad I left my old corded trimmer out in the rain!
UPDATE: A NOTE ABOUT BLACK+DECKER CUSTOMER SERVICE the battery that came with this trimmer failed to charge almost 2 yrs after i bought. No complaints really - i mean almost 2 years, right? But I emailed Black+Decker customer service support anyways bc the warranty says 2 years. I just asked if the warranty covered the batteries too. After sending them some additional information (images of the model/serial numbers on the battery), they sent me a new one. WOW. Well done Black + Decker. If I didn't already own all the 20V toys I could possibly I'd be lining up to buy more. I had a GreenWorks 21212 4Amp 13-Inch Corded String Trimmer I bought here on amazon: If you're on a budget and want something reliable , well built and easy to use you can't beat the GreenWorks 21212 now that its reduced to $29.98. Having said that. I forgot to bring it in. It got rained on. OOPS. I decided to go cordless and this one had good reviews and came with 2 batteries. OMG it is AWESOME. It was so good I wanted to do my whole yard with it. To be honest I did a whole lot more of the yard than I normally would with string trimmer. I love how easy it was to put together. One battery lasted a long time - easily 45 minutes or more of constant use. The second battery I'm gonna use for the Black & Decker Pole Pruning Saw I also bought from amazon because the batteries are interchangeable. In fact you can get drills and jigsaws etc that all work with the 20V Max Lithium Battery System (and I did. If the tools are as great and this trimmer I may have to build myself an addition to my house. Kidding of course but not really... The trimmer made my neglected overgrown backyard a breeze to clean up) Keep in mind that all trimmers are heavy and unwieldly due to the design and function: the weight of the trimmer is all at the end of the stick. Expect a workout in your biceps and upper back . But as trimmers go, this one isn't too bad since the battery is in the handle near your body and it works as a counterweight. If you're buying your very first trimmer ever know that they are all unwieldly but you can rig up some sort of cross body sling to offset the weight if you find your arms getting tired too fast.

Fantastic product, much better than expected!!
Better than expected!! I've always used a gas weed trimmer and had a friend who bought a Black and Decker battery powered one. This one was a good deal because it was a larger model and came with 2 - 2.0 batteries. I used it this past week for the first time and LOVED IT. I have a 1.5 acre yard with a lot of trees and landscaping. The first battery, even though I had it on the #2 setting almost the whole time did 3/4 of yard on the first battery. The second battery easily completed the job. There was plenty of power and I truly couldn't have asked for a better product. It trimmed thin grass, thick grass, and even some small saplings that had begun to grow. I also bought the 3 pack of extra string. The string feed also worked perfectly. I couldn't recommend it more highly!
