excellent non-brushless trimmer
After using a corded trimmer for so long, this is a real time-saving purchase for me. Not only does it save me time and hassle, now I can reach the end of my yard and weed eat every little corner. The posting for this tool does not lie; it really takes two or three weeks to arrive. It was worth the wait for me. The motor is a high rpm unit that uses gear reduction to get torque to the head. I would rather have direct drive and lower motor speed, but I believe this is necessary for power from small electric motors. Hopefully I will have the cash for brushless next time. String speed is adequate for all of my yard needs, and the string it came with is pretty stout. I used very little until I had to learn how to edge my sidewalk again. After borrowing a friends cordless trimmer with automatic line feed, it is nice to use the bump head style again. Why would any manufacturer put automatic line feed on a battery powered trimmer? Every time I let off the trigger to save electricity, the line would feed out and get wasted! Thank you Makita for recognizing this as a poor idea. I ran it for about 20 minutes straight, and the battery is still going strong. If you have more than one battery, you should always have a spare ready since it only takes 30 minutes to charge. After running it for 20 minutes, I held my hand over the motor breather holes, and it was putting out the amount of heat I expected. I have no worries about overheating this trimmer.

Excellent tools from makita as always.
I'm surprised and even impressed with this. I knew it would have limitations, but still impressed. It's quite efficient with battery usage. It's also fairly powerful for an electric trimmer. The only thing i have to say though, is make sure to get some quality string. Something with edges. As only then will you get full potential. The cheapie nylon string is only good for grass and stuff, at best, and isn't very durable. The only other thing is, the spool will eventually wear down based on how it's constructed, but a replacement can be had for $15. So it's not a big deal. Just be sure to keep an eye on the condition of the metal part on the spool and never advance the string by hitting it against hard surfaces. I'll update this review if i have any problems in the long run. As always with Makita

Better than expected
Better than expected. I have a pretty standard 1/3 acre lot with a fenced back yard and about a 50ft long driveway. I have two 2.0ah batteries and was expecting to run through both batteries and possibly need to recharge. I trimmed the entire fence, house, multiple garden beds and edged our sidewalk, driveway and curb with one battery and still had 25% charge remaining. I wouldn't expect to trim sapplings, vines or densely overgrown lots, but regularly maintained areas are a breeze with this. The rotating head makes edging super quick and easy. Worth every penny if you already have makita batteries.

Great performance at the one day mark....
Arrived today, along with my new Makita blower kit.(which is awesome BTW- made in Japan, like all my favorite Makitas are). This weed trimmer cut through everything. I turned it on, tested it on a couple of gnarly weeds, (it passed with flying colors) then got to work on edging my (tiny) lawn. My back wanted to quit before this tool did. It's not overly loud either-big plus. After an hour or so non-stop out there with this trimmer with no battery change, I stopped and looked at the battery, and considered what I'd accomplished. I decided an Amazon review was in order. With the price of batteries etc, cordless isn't the way to go for some of us. I embrace cordless tools, (no annoying cord, yay) and as battery technology gets better I get more and more enamored of the premier brands who are leading the way. I can attest this tool is a sure winner. If it turns out to be a dog, and I'm entirely wrong, I'll post that info right here, promise. Stay tuned, more 18v Makita LXT tool reviews to come. Cheers!

Great trimmer for basic maintenance
Gave this as a Christmas gift to myself/family we are long time makita users and have been nothing but impressed with this trimmer. For being a single line running off a single battery it takes care of all the random basic areas that the mower misses. It’s not going to take down buffalo grass or massive weed patch but for normal maintenance work it’s perfect. No hassle of heavy gas trimmer and no annoying cord! Very affordable as well if you already have makita battery. 30 min run time didn’t even drain the battery. Wish would have bought this years ago!

Super Easy, Barely an Inconvenience to Use
I’m quite impressed. I’ve had gas powered and corded weed wackers. I just edged my whole front and back yard and only used half the battery. It cuts weeds and grass well. It’s lower power than a gas or corded trimmer, so it won’t eat through tree branches or thick bushes. But on the positive side I could wear shorts and not get pelted by high speed particles from the high speed trimmer. I use the same batteries for my impact driver and other tools so it was nice not to have to get a whole new system. It’s so convienent to have the trimmer battery powered, I can grab it every few days and keep the weeds at bay on my drought tolerant landscape.

Great trimmer for a homeowner.
So, I have a bunch of the LXT Makita tools, and needed a weed whacker. The man in me wanted to go buy a two stroke, but I saw a few youtube reviews of this 18v setup, and decided to give it a whirl. I am so glad I did. Now I trim every time I mow the lawn, whether it just be a couple small spots I couldn't hit with the mower, or the whole place. Very strong motor, can cut through light/medium stuff quick. my 2 amp batteries last a couple times between charges (maybe total running time of 30-40 minutes, which is huge in my opinion for a battery that charges so fast). obviously this isn't as badass as a 2 stroke, and if you take care of lawns professionally, this wouldn't cut it (ha). But for a homeowner who uses it 1-6 times a month, it is the bees knees!

Electric trimmers have come a long ways
Boom!!! Electric trimmers have come a long ways. The first time I used this was for 45 minutes on a 1.5ah battery. I have tons of makita batteries and 4 chargers so this was an obvious choice. I was so tired of wrestling with my gas trimmer, trying to get it started and decided to give this thing a try. It is much quieter and easier to control than a gas trimmer. I also like how the head rotates and the length is easily changed. The versatility is amazing. I was not blown away by the quality of the trimmer line that cam installed but replaced it with some braided .065 stuff that I purchased 300 ft of on amazon and have never been happier to edge or trim my lawn.

Assembly of the Makita trimmer was easy, and the box that my Makita came in ...
I bought this trimmer (w/o the battery) because I already own a Makita drill set with two(2) Makita 18V -1815 batteries and a fast charger. I got tired of my old Black & Decker battery operated weed wacker that only had a slow charger that took 24 hours to charge up, and expensive batteries that I had to replace every 2 years. Now with this new Makita trimmer, I can charge up an 1815 size Makita battery in 15 minutes or less. The Makita batteries I already have are still going strong after 3 years. When it comes to having to buy new Makita batteries some day, I will probably buy larger sized 1830's or greater, so I can do my yard trimming on one battery charge. As it is now, I need to use both of my 1815's to do my yard, but it's no big deal since I always have them charged up and ready to go. Assembly of the Makita trimmer was easy, and the box that my Makita came in contained a well written and pictorial assembly and operating instructions manual. Also, I deliberately bought this particular model because it comes with the manual feed string timmer head as opposed to the automatic version. It gives me greater control over the string length by simply bumping the head on the ground while its running.

Great product! Seriously recommend to any woman that wants to be able to do things without help!
I LOVE the versatility of this item! I am smallish but I have work to do. This gets it done! No more asking for help from people stronger than me for this task! I am so happy! Plus side: vibration of product and task make my arms more fit. When I used a gas powered one I had to ask my brother for help. He showed me how to start it then he shut it off and left, as soon as he was gone I tried and tried sweating to start the machine. Nothing. Called for more tips, nothing worked. When he got back, over an hour later, he started it for me, (turns out I was a wimp) but... I was ready to set it down after I barely started... (proof of being even more weak than I wanted to admit) Thank you for making me more independent! <3 Also the battery lasted long enough to make me happy I was weedeating for about an hour and it still had 1/2 battery. Super great!
