Powerful light, excellent visibility, intuitive grip.
Great buy. Extremely crisp view of the egg contents. I can see inside dark Marans eggs, detect blood spots---pretty much any feature that can be seen without actually being inside the egg. It's too bad that this unit has to be plugged into the wall at all times to use, but the superior lighting is probably something you couldn't accomplish with a battery backup. It also doesn't stand on its own like one of the product photos suggests; you'll need to use it two-handed (one hand for the candler, one hand for the egg), but the size of the handle is very intuitive and will give you a comfortable and confident grip. The candle-end ring wraps nicely around the egg with or without the rubber attachment. Very pleased.

Double check the model before ordering
overall, this is a great buy. I meant to buy the one with the battery pack option, and I clicked on the wrong listing. Totally my fault. However it's the same basic idea, and it works really really well. I use it to check eggs that my free-range chickens decide to hide, and to look for development when hatching eggs. Checking them in a dark room is the easiest. I have a range of colors from very light brown to blue-green two darker brown. My welsummer eggs are the darkest, and I can still see them pretty well. Interestingly enough the blue-green eggs are thicker or something, so they are the hardest for me to see through. I can still see well enough to check air cell and probably for blood vessels, etc, but I haven't had any developing that needed checking. The picture in the listing of the different stages of egg development is a really great resource, and I wish they sent a copy with the actual candler.

Works for dark colored eggs
I waited until I had candled some eggs before I wrote this review. After I ordered some French Copper Marans hatching eggs, I worried that my little flashlight would be enough for candling. This candler has worked well with those eggs, even though they are very dark in color. The light is very bright and allows me to see clearly into the eggs. The cup that fits on the end is soft enough that I don't feel like I'm in danger of cracking or damaging the egg, when I place it on the candler. Right now, I am very pleased with this product. PROS: bright light and soft cup that fits the egg CONS: doesn't feel very durable

This gadget is absolutely amazing. I have tried time and time again to use flashlights around the house (from large maglites to key chain LED lights) and I've just never had any luck with candling. Yes, I can see /something/ in the egg, but who knows if it's a developing chick or a yolk or a black blob. Flash lights just don't do much to help me with chicken eggs. So I ordered this thing just out of generally curiosity and suddenly, incubating eggs is a whole new world to me. This gadget is super bright, doesn't get hot, and has a rubber attachment that forces all the light to enter the egg. It makes the insides of every egg (and I'm incubating medium-dark brown eggs) highly visible. I suddenly understand how people can trace the air cells on their eggs, see if the humidity is right by checking air cell size, and watching the chicks develop. I'm incubating a clutch now, and I was super ecstatic when I checked in on the eggs yesterday and could actually see the fetal chicks moving inside the shells. This gadget even comes with a second, smaller rubber attachment for smaller eggs which is supposed to work for quail but honestly, I look forward to testing it out on my next round of leopard gecko eggs. Super awesome!

Read my review
Don't listen to the haters, this thing is MUCH more powerful then any flashlight and it works great. I tried some very bright flashlights and none could do what this does. See, the thing is...if the chick is fairly far along you'll see an egg that is fairly dense & full. Using a candler is not for the last week of incubation, it's for the first week so you can see if the egg is viable, then perhaps another week to watch it develop...by the last week the egg goes almost dark and that's because it's full with a chick! If you need a candler, click 'add to cart' and stop looking further. Done deal. And a Hovabator 1588 with egg turner is excellent..perfect temp, reliable humidity, durable and best dollar per the buck.

I was very pleased with the Magicfly Bright Cool LED Egg Candler
I was very pleased with the Magicfly Bright Cool LED Egg Candler. I believe anyone who purchases this device will be also. It is much brighter than the candler that I was previously using but most importantly the LED lamp never gets hot. It's LED lamp stays cool while I candle as many as seventy eggs. Note: it is not a rechargeable device. It has a detachable power cord that plugs into a standard 110 volt household outlet but because it was detachable, I thought it would charge the unit and I could candle my eggs without dealing with the power cord. That's not the case. Also, no operating instructions were included in the box. It does have an on and off switch on the unit which is what led me to believe it might be a rechargeable light.

I LOVE it. 1 - The brightness is wonderful
I have been trying to candle eggs for almost a year now. I had seen this light used by another of my chicken friends and had to have it. I LOVE it. 1 - The brightness is wonderful. I hatch dark shelled eggs and can see veining early on with this light. 2 - It is very light easy to handle, which, if you candle eggs you know how dangerous it can be when trying to work in the dark with things that fragile. 3 - I very much like the rubber type adapters on the business end. In all my candling time, I've used a flashlight and had never been happy with the "leaks". These adapters are just the firmness you need for support or pressing the egg safely to have a better look. 4 - The cord length was a nice surprise. I don't like little short cords or overly long ones. For where my incubator sits and where the plug is - this cord is just right! 5 - It's very affordable! That is pretty important when you WANT items like this and are on a budget!! If you are new to hatching and want a super little light for a little bit of money - this one is the ticket!
