Perfect tuner if you have to tune in a loud place
Because it’s so small, I can easily keep it on my violin even when it’s away in the case. Very discreet and easy to use. I’m very happy with this little tuner. I’ve been playing for 40 years and never used a tuner, but now I’m in a bluegrass band and can’t hear to tune above those banjos! I love how I can tune without hearing myself. If I had to choose I’d still rather tune by ear in a quiet place, but when that’s not an option, this is the next best thing. Very happy with this product.

This clamps out of the way on the violin.
I must have a half dozen of the universal tuners scattered around the house. Those are great for clamping onto guitars, ukuleles and other instruments with those flat boat paddle heads, but are exactly wrong for a fiddle's curling head. It they don't slip off and fly across the room they interfere with turning the D or A tuners at the crucial moment. This one just clamps on the violin body and I'm good to go. Scale can be adjusted to play A 420 baroque music or other standards in addition to A 440. One feature I like is that it will tell you how far out of tune a slightly wrong note is. That can come in handy if one is playing with a pianist or horn player who is unable to tune to correct pitch for some reason. One can estimate how much to change the scale to accommodate the other player. (Battery is easily replaceable and is the same flat standard battery of the type that seems to power half the toys, knicknacks and geegaws that we fill our houses with nowadays. We have about 6 of them left over from a 12 pack that were bought by a family member who needed them to power Christmas lighting. So one should not worry about finding batteries.)

Great little tuning device.
This is a good tuner; for many years, in the absence of a piano or keyboard near by, I've tuned my violin to my ear. Once I get once string tuned to a pitch, I can get the other 3 with ease. Of course, this method is only useful when I play alone. Recently, I've been playing with others and have to be tuned to standards. That's where this little tuner comes in. It's pretty small and light; you don't have to worry about having it on your violin. It has nice grips and it will not scratch your instrument. The head swivels, so you can position it in the direction that best works for you. I remove it from the violin once I'm done tuning but you can certainly leave it there if you want to use it for intonation practicing or you want to use the metronome feature. The display has colors to help you tune.. from red, yello, to green when finally tuned. It will also tell you if you are off and by how much which I find helpful, especially since I do not have fine tuners on all my strings. I'm satisfied with the purchase.

Yes! It works; compact; easy to use & see!
I love having this clipped to my fiddle. I was using one that had a cable that clipped to the bridge while tuning. Very awkward. I have used those that clip to guitar headstocks. They kinda worked, but not a good place to clip on violin. Found this - gave it a try - and love it. Bought another one for my second fiddle. I like that it is quick. It obviously helps tune, but also gives some valuable feedback on intonation. Just how true am I hitting that note? It tells me! And it shuts off by itself after a bit so saves batteries. I'll never be without it. And it fits in the case on the fiddle, so if you forget and leave it on, no problem. (Some people may not wish to leave it permanently clipped to very expensive instruments fearing chemical reaction or something. I've not noticed any thing on mine & it's been on there a month or more now.)

Makes life a LOT simpler for violin players! GREAT little tuner!!
This is a great little tuner for the violin, and what I like about it you can just leave it on your instrument (next to the fingerboard on upper left bout) and it doesn't interfere with anything when you put the violin back in it's case. Just attach it by the handy cam lock lever and forget it, nothing could be simpler. It's nice to be able to swivel it back and forth, too, as I find that I will shift the violin slightly sometimes depending on my situation and the ability to swivel the display comes in real handy. The display is bright enough for me (I wear glasses) and the best thing is this thing is accurate as all get out. I had previously purchased the guitar version of this for my acoustic and electric guitars (same tuner body, with a shorter clamp which attaches on the guitar's peghead) and was very satisfied with them so when this model for violin came along I snapped it up. Liked it so well I ordered a few more for my fiddlin' friends, so I am very happy with the performance of this little tuner. You can flip the display up-side-down with the touch of a button if you wish (for alternate mountings) and you can also change the range with the sharp or flat buttons, if you need to do that sort of thing (say, if you need to tune with a piano that isn't all the way there). Battery life seems to be very good, too, but I don't leave mine on all the time like some folks do (very distracting). It does have an auto shut-off feature which turns the unit's power off after a few minutes if it doesn't detect any sound, to conserve the battery just in case you forget. This is the best thing to come around in years (IMHO) and it makes life a lot simpler not having to hunt (or lose) clip on scroll tuners any more before a show. BRAVO D'Addario for another great product!

It's a Tuner . . . .
This was the hot new tuner at the International Folk Alliance this past year. I didn't get one at that time but wished I had because everyone was excited about it. I finally broke down bought one this summer and stuck it on my main fiddle expecting some sort of miraculous gadget based on the hype. It works as well as any other clip on tuner and is conveniently facing me for tuning. This one has a way of working itself loose during a jam but other tuners aren't meant to stay on at all so it gets points for being able to stay on with only occasional adjustments. It still should be removed before putting the fiddle back in the case. It is not something you would pull off of the fiddle to loan to the guitar player standing next to you, which is easy to do with the Snark styled tuners, but it is a good tuner in the dark, and, because you can't loan it to someone else, you will always know where it is. I would have given it 4.5 stars if there was such a thing just because I wanted it to somehow be better, but there is nothing wrong with it and it is a step in the right direction.

I did NOT get a discount or free product for my review
I love love love this product. I'm a beginner violin player and this has helped me a lot in tuning my violin at home when my teacher is not around. It has also helped me to know if my fingers are in the correct spot when playing. It's very accurate. I have tested it against our piano. It's small enough that it's barely noticeable. The digital display is very clear. It's turns to a different color when you are flat or sharp on the key. It's fits perfectly on my violin. And it's adjustable so it should fit in any size violin. The display angle can also be adjusted so that it faces you in a comfortable view. The only thing I wish I could change is that it automatically turns off after a while. I have to keep turning it back on. I wish there's a feature to where to can pick "auto" for automatic shut off or "on" if you want it to stay on the whole time you are playing. Other than that, excellent product especially for a beginner like me.

Great size. It does not have to be removed ...
Great size. It does not have to be removed from the fiddle when the fiddle is in its case. When we received it, we thought something was wrong with the display because it was displaying upside down. We were very disappointed and were preparing to return it. Fortunately, my 11 year old daughter realized the display could be reversed. I was a little embarrassed to realize the problem was ME and not the tuner, but so glad we are keeping it. It was inexpensive and perfect for the job!!! Love it!!

Works like a charm
I got this tuner "USED - LIKE NEW". Other than the fact that it was rolling around in a plastic bag & completely out of its packaging, it works really well. It is small, so it fits in my case without issue. It accurately identifies notes. I have tried more expensive tuners & some even fail at the basic task of identifying an open string. You can adjust the frequency, as well. That is a plus. Not everyone tunes at 440, after all. I am a professional violinist. I play in different capacities, be it solo or with a band, very quiet venues, or very loud events. Sometimes, the way that the venue rigs up the sound prevents me from getting a VERY clean "A" from the keyboardist/pianist. Sometimes, it is so loud that I cannot hear my tuning fork. Since this tuner has a display, it is perfect in a jam. This tuner is decent for this price point. It would be a must-have if it were less expensive. If you can get a deal on it, I would recommend it all violinists, who have to tune in some special circumstances (some of which I have mentioned). I would also recommend it to any beginning violinists, who do not yet know how to tune by ear. It is VERY small. Even the smallest of cases will be able to accommodate it.

Easy tuning. Worth your investment. Alison Sparrow (youtuber) recommended. Mom & Dad approved
Purchased for both my teens based on the recommendation of UK YouTuber Alison Sparrow’s “The Online Piano & Violin Tutor” channel Teens are challenging. They want help and independence at the same time. We struggled to tune the violins for our teen children for months with the free included version that came with our amazon violin purchase. This was a case of free isnt free at all. All the time and angst was not worth the “free” tuner included with our violin. This item is a clip it and let THEM tune it item. So affordable, small, and useful. My husband and I no longer have to struggle to tune their violins. Our teens are thrilled to be able to quickly tune on their own. Sooooo worth the small cost!! Alison Sparrow’s recommendation was the ONLY reason for this purchase
