My downstairs neighbor is a busy body nosey old woman who HAD a habit of opening my mailbox. I weighed the alternative of buying a locking mailbox (expensive) versus just trying this dummy fake camera first. I made a bit of a show of mounting the camera, and then let Miss Busy Body Nosey Pants know that there was a motion-activated camera that would record anybody who came within a few feet of my mailbox. The look on her face: PRICELESS. Since mounting this product, I've received every sales circular, catalog, and all the other pieces of mail I thought were curiously missing from my box. WELL DONE... saved me tons of money over the locking mailbox I was going to get. AND, this may deter others from trying anything while I'm either at work or out of town.

I bought this as a scare tactic for my child who gets sassy with me. I remind the child they're are camera, and they shape up. Its great.

Look's like the real thing. although it's totally plastic. It was easy to install above my back door. I'm going to buy another for the front door. What makes it look authentic is the little read blinking light! I'd say they're indoor/outdoor. I didn't put up the 2 Warning labels because they're very large and I thought that smaller labels looked more legit. If the camera & the word Warning were a little smaller, it would look more like the real thing!

After reading reviews over all the opinions of this after receiving mine I had to laugh. It reminded me of the old snow globes that you would see as a kid. It comes with screws to mount it like a smoke detector, or you could mount it anywhere with double sided tape. With aa batteries it blinks, or chose not to . Will it fool bad guys ? Who knows. It looks legit. I'm willing to think it doesn't hurt to have it and its only 5 bucks. Do I trust this to give me peace of mind ? Of course not. One thing I know is tweekers and thieves just don't care about anything as long as they get what their after. No one ever said thieves were smart....

I've always balked at "fake" anything, but after a recent neighbor had their door kicked in and were robbed, I wanted something asap to make a potential thief at lest think twice about an unexpected visit. I didn't have the time to research, no less install a real security system, so looked for something as a quick stopgap security measure. This plastic unit looked promising from all the positive reviews, but the price seemed to guarantee disappointment. It arrived a few days later and lo-and-behold it's design and build are pretty convincing. It's all assembled, just open the small "door" on top and insert the 9v battery. The red LED immediately begins it's regular pulsing and behind the smoked glass it really is tough to detect if that's a real camera inside or not. It comes with two plastic anchors that you push into the ceiling after drilling the two mounting holes. Insert the two supplied screws leaving a few millimeters raised above level. Then put the housing onto the screw heads and give a slight turn to mount in place. Total installation took just a few minutes. That's all there is to it. If I had just one suggestion for the manufacturer it would be to include a mounting paper template showing the location of the screws. Since one is not included just put the dome on top of a piece of paper and draw a circle around the perimeter. Flip the paper over and locate the hole openings and make a mark or just punch your pencil through. Now hold the template you just made against the ceiling and mark the hole locations to assure correct spacing. To make things more convincing I also ordered Security Decal - 4 Pack #204 here on Amazon. Also looks menacing and serious. I've since ordered a real wireless camera system which will take the place of this fake one, but to be honest, I think just the fear of being observed and taped would have been enough to stick with the fake only. If the real camera system that cost hundreds proves disappointing and needs to be returned, I'll keep this dome at the ready. Highly recommended!

Put it on the front porch. Easy to fasten... I used heavy duty Velcro, and it looks ominous which is how it should look. I did not install a battery after reading so many reviews saying that the blinking red light is not found on real cameras. I do have real cameras, and they have an "always on" light, but it is green and flashes red only to signal that the unit is not working or not on-line. Unit is lighter without a battery... More likely to stay fastened . A good product.

After 2 break-ins in 2 years, I put in a fake battery operated flashing blue light... then had to replace 3A batteries every 7 days... expensive!! This fake camera has been blinking "red" for over 4 weeks and boasts possible 7 months... already saved 8 3a batteries, 8 pack costing $8... No real motion detection and cannot permanently install because battery chamber is under "camera"... My neighbors believe it's real!!!

Got mine in two days came in fast and in good condition it works great put it up at my apartment complex cause i have been seeing suspicious people so hopefully it will keep them away from my building. I put it by my cable wire to make it look as if its attached to it as well. Like how the light blinks as if its actually working. Is exactly as pictured.

A friend had one of these and suggested we look into it. Bought this to put on a boat while we are not there for a few months of the year. Moorage doesn't have Internet so couldn't hook up a real one. This looks real and the little red blinking light makes it that much more believable. We didn't want to put screws into the fiberglass, so we put it up with double stick tape. This causes the tiniest gap between the surfaces but unless you are looking really hard it's not noticeable. It not keep out hard core criminals but the kids on the dock and occasional passer-by will think twice when they see it. We put the security sticker that comes with it on the door, and aimed the blinking light so that it's really noticeable from the entry point on the boat. Even though there is no actual security, it looks like there is.

This little dummy security camera is pretty convincing, at least to me. The blinking red light makes it appear as though it is a real camera actually recording. I think it would fool most people who aren’t very familiar with security cameras. Most people don’t pay that close of attention anyway. The unit itself is not a bad size. It measures 4 1/2” diameter at the base and 12 1/4” in circumference of the “camera”. You get hardware to mount the unit (included in the battery compartment) and they even include a sticker that warns people you are recording them. You must provide your own (2) AA batteries. I was difficult to get the battery cover back on after placing the batteries in the battery compartment but I was finally able to get it closed so your unit may also be a tight fit. I will say initially I tried using rechargeable AA batteries in it but the cover wouldn’t fit at all. Rechargeable batteries seem to be a little bigger than regular batteries because once I put regular batteries in it wasn’t such a big deal. Overall while this unit might not fool everyone, I think it will certainly fool a fool and I am willing to try it.
