My son grinds our coffee the night before, sets up the French press, and fills the hot pot for the next morning. He really wanted a timer so the water would already have come to a boil before he gets up. This works perfectly for him. (so wonderful to have a teen who makes great coffee for us every morning:) This timer works (and looks) very much like ones we had 30+ years ago, except this has a very useful slide switch on the side so it can be turned on to work like a regular outlet. Then just slide the switch back, and it will go back to turning on and off at whatever time it's been set for. Also, the red light to show that it's "on" (working as regular outlet) is very helpful so I don't forget to put the switch back to timer mode.

Solidly built, I use it to turn a dehumidifier on and off four times a day. The dehumidifier kept freezing up as it is in an unheated garage, so this timer allows it to melt before the next cycle, and it handles the high startup current requirements of the dehumidifier with no problem. I like being able to fine tune the on and off times to allow the ice to completely melt before the next on cycle.

The motor & workings inside the timer were so noisy I couldn't go to sleep (the timer was in the bedroom). I sent it back & bought an all electric for just a little more money. Amazon is so fantastic with their returns. They couldn't make it any easier or cheaper! I have added one more star because of the customer service of Century Products. The seller sent me a new timer and it makes no noise at all. So I am changing my 2 star to 5 star. Even though I sent the old noisey timer in for a refund, the seller still sent me a new timer that makes no noise at all.

I needed a 3-prong heavy duty 15-amp outlet timer for my 70-pint per day dehumidifier that I want to control a little better that the factory allows. I have the dehumidifier on a permanent drain, and finally found a brand with a very quiet compressor (Danby), but did not have a means of controlling the "on" time until I saw this timer. So far, after several months, this timer has performed flawlessly. Easy to set the timer in 15 minute increments, so you could turn an appliance on or off every 15 minutes if that is your desire. If I find that I need to turn the dehumidifier on for a couple of hours at night just to keep the humidity in check, this timer will allow me to easily do that. Without the timer, the dehumidifier ran excessively as it approached its set point. It doesn't run as much now, which saves on electricity by minimizing the heat that the AC needs to remove, yet seems to keep the humidity at the set point just as well as before I bought the timer. For $10, I effectively added another feature to the dehumidifier control panel.

This item arrived within two days, as expected. It takes a few minutes to understand how it works but it is fairly easy to figure out. The timer has been working perfectly since the day it arrived. We first used it with Christmas decoration and now we are using it with another set of lights. Thus far we have not encountered any issues. For the low price, I would recommend it highly based on our limited experience. I will come back and update this review/rating if something goes wrong.

I own a small Jayco travel trailer that has a wall AC rather than a ceiling/roof AC. The AC doesn't have any type of thermostat control so it would stay on all the time while I was away even if it didn't need to be and I'd come back to an ice cold trailer. I decided that a programmable timer would be a good option to keep the trailer cool rather than ice cold in the absence of thermostatic control. I needed a timer that could handle an AC and also had the plug for the AC in the front of it since the AC plug is so large. Initially, I tried a fancy digital timer recommended by an electrician that cost about $45. It worked, but was rather complex to program given what I felt was a pretty basic need (on 90 minutes, off 90 minutes). I figured it out, but when the battery for the digital display needed replacement all of the programmed times were lost. I decided at that point that I'd seek a new timer. I wish I had seen this timer before asking the electrician for his input. It's easy to set multiple on/off times and isn't reliant on any source of power to do so. It ticks a little bit, but it's plugged in inside of a cabinet so I rarely notice it and it definitely can't be heard over the hum of the AC. Best of all, it's very reasonably priced! My trailer AC now provides just the right amount of cooling with an easy to use, no nonsense timer. Highly recommended!

My first mechanical timer so I didn't know what to do. The instructions for a newbie are horrible. So I go over to youtube and check out a couple of videos on how mechanical timers work. Tried it out and it works as it should. Wow. I only wanted this for a lamp, so it is fine for what I needed too. The instructions refer to pins but I look at it without my magnifiers on and only see a black dial. The black dial is actually a bunch of pins that can be pushed down one at a time or in clusters. I believe each pin turns it on for 15 minutes. So if you need an hour straight, push four pins together. After the timer passes the pins, then the light goes out. So if I want it to come on for another hour after an hour, I would skip over the next four pins, and press the following 4 pins Those are all the pins above the arrow. The timer dial is moving in a clockwise motion, so if the pin you push is 15 minutes below the arrow, it won't come on till tomorrow + 15 minutes. If you want it to come on in 15 minutes from now, press the pin just above the arrow. Hope this helps for newbies.

I have a smart home with assorted programmable network linked timers. But there are some applications where a good mechanical timer is the way to go. This one is it. It's better constructed (and silent in operation, thank goodness!) than many of the typical like devices found at hardware stores. It's easy to use, allowing for as many start-stop cycles in 15-minute increments as you'd like in a 24-hour period, and features a timer override ON switch for powering the connected device outside of the timed periods. It's a grounded, robust unit, but I still find that I can get a regular sized plug into the lower outlet if I have this timer plugged into the upper one. Mind you, if you're using this timer to operate a device at its rated capacity of 15A (1725W, 125VAC), you probably shouldn't be sharing the outlet with anything else anyway. Great timer and a great value at the price.

Here are the "good" and "bad" on this product. . . ADVANTAGES . 1. This is the highest consumer rated timer among 179 Amazon.com users with a score of 4.8 of 5.0 stars. Competing brands do not come close. . 2. It will operate with the highest energy demanding devices. The timer is able handle equipment that requires a maximum of 15 Amps, 0.5 HP, or 1,725 watts. . 3. UL tested and approved. . 4. There is a maximum of 96 15-minute settings. . 5. The construction is heavy - very rugged. It is not the familiar light cheap plastic types that are commonly sold in hardware stores. . 6. At $10, the consumer is getting great value for an over engineered and durable product that will last for years. For the quality, it should cost $20 to $30. . 7. It is simple to use. First, slide the side switch to TIMER. Second, use a tooth pick to press down the tabs on the clock dial to set the time(s) for the device to go ON. Each tab represents 15 minutes of activation. Third, rotate the round clock dial and position the black triangle to the present time. . 8. There is no comparison between this product and the competition. Through the years, I have used Intermec and GE brands. These were the only choices on the shelves of Lowes and Home Depot. They were cheaply made; they tend to overheat; and the life expectancy was short. The biggest problem was the limited number of settings. Two or four plastic pegs were provided to turn devices ON and OFF. In other words, the user can only activate the device once or twice in a 24-hour day. These plastic pegs tend to fall off and get lost - rendering the timer useless. . The CENTURY 24 product does not have the above problems. Most important, there are no plastic pegs to insert and lose. Just depress any of the 96 15-minute settings with a toothpick to set a various number of activation times. . 9. The device is grounded for safety. . . DISADVANTAGES . 1. The timer is heavy and big - leaves little room for another electrical device to plug into the electrical outlet. . 2. The manufacturer, Century Products, is not well known as Intermec or GE, competing companies that also make timers. . 3. The timer can only control one electrical device. . . ================================================================================================== . . UPDATE 1: I was too premature with my praise for this product. Of the two purchased, one went dead after two days. . . ================================================================================================== . . UPDATE 2: The malfunction happened on a Saturday. Three hours after requesting that the defective timer be returned for a refund, the vendor contacted me by email. He politely asked for a description of the problem, which I replied. Within an hour, a second email expressed his personal apologies and indicated that a free replacement will be shipped on Monday. . The unit arrived a few days later. It was rigorously tested. The product turned my bedroom lamp ON and OFF every 15 minutes for 16 hours everyday. It was OFF for eight hours, because I did not want the lights flashing ON and OFF while sleeping. The testing will continue for the next few days. So far, the replacement timer is working without any problems. . The reality is that defects in manufacturing happen all the time. This is normal. . What is not normal is this vendor's reaction. It is unbelievable that a company immediately responded to a customer complaint within three hours on a weekend, confirm the issue within an hour, and ship a free replace on the next business day. Such an experience is "an all-time first." I am totally flabbergasted. . Customer service like this puts all other businesses to shame. In fact, it must be emulated by all companies. . . ================================================================================================== . . UPDATE 3: I was so impressed with the product's quality, versatility, durability, reliability, and usefulness that I purchased four units. In operation for 24/7, they were continuously ON since October 16, 2016. During this time period, there were no breakdowns or time inaccuracies. My lights and lamps were turned ON and OFF without failure.

So easy to set up! My boyfriend and I both have jobs that sometimes have shifts overnight and we live on a street with a lot of traffic - both vehicles & people on foot. It made me nervous when there would be stretches of time with no one obviously home at night and so I decided to purchase a timer to keep a light or two on when no one is home. This took maybe 3 minutes to set up and has functioned perfectly for months. I have one light on in the front living room every evening & a second one in a back upstairs bedroom that comes on later and stays on longer. The directions are very straightforward as is the timer itself. I'll definitely purchase again!
