Good bargain at the price. Reading various reviews it seems Buffalo uses different 4TB drives. This probably is why they don't specify exactly what's inside. I took delivery of my 1400R March 21, 2018. It came with 4 x 4TB ST 4000DM005 Seagate Barracuda drives. This is a "standard" 7200 RPM desktop drive that should work well in a light to medium use NAS environment. As a precaution I've purchased an extra one. The 1400R is plugged into my 1000Mbps LAN along with Windows XP, 7, and 10 computers. Everything is set up DHCP and I've had no issues. Slightly Negative Comments: The 1400R came set up as RAID 5. That's okay, except I wanted RAID 1. That took some time (BTW, change the RAID level to what you want before using the 1400R to store data). Also it boots up slower than any of my Windows computers. And it is loud when it is booting up, 74db, as towards the end of the process the two fans are exercised at full RPM. Once it is all booted and happy they slow down considerably and the noise at idle drops below my capacity to accurately measure. I'll probably buy another one latter this year, as I've got it already about 33% full with a lifetime of pictures and videos. I'm nowhere near finished.

I got the 4 TB version and set it up so the two drives are mirrors of the same data (which makes it 2 TB total now) - in case if one drive ever goes bad. Basically using it as back-up storage, but if I need anything (like old photos) it's easily accessible. The network recognizes it as just another storage device, so I can drag and drop if needed, or program nightly back-ups to it. No issues to speak of once it was setup. For someone with a little knowledge, the downloaded-able manual is not too hard to navigate, and I figured it out. It's small, makes minimal noise and does the trick! BTW - With this much storage, I don't even compress the back-ups!

* Note - For size purposes, thats a Google Home WiFi device on top, about the size of two hockey pucks on top of eachother Like the design - doesn't stand out, fairly compact, quiet, and fast. Transferring files or backing-up my work laptop is a breeze. Great as a DLNA server for video streaming. I dig it. - I think the Desktop software could be better, but hey..... Par for the course. While I said easy to setup, it does require some basic computer networking, sharing/permissioning, etc. So if you are a complete novice, totally cool, but you may want to get geek squad to help you out or your local teenager ;)

I purchased this NAS to replace my Buffalo Link Station 200. We have a small intranet network with six computer stations and a shared printer. As a non tech guy, I’ve always liked Buffalo’s GUI. The later version, Nav2, has made setting up this unit very easy. It comes as RAID 1 by default which meets are simple needs perfectly. We also connected a WD usb external hard drive to serve as a backup. Again, the interface made scheduling the backup a breeze. We currently have no need for the other internet related features, so I can’t comment on their functionally. But as user friendly as this unit is, I suspect the other features would set up and work great as well. You can certainly spend a lot more on an NAS but this Tera Station sure brings a lot to the table for the price. Would define recommend it to friends.

It was super easy to set up with my iMac and macbook and time machine works great.

Just got the device and plugged it into the network and power. I'm using Linksys Velop and plugged into the main node. Was able to quickly find it for time machine backups on Mac, and FAST. Did 10GB in probably about 10 minutes. ALso contacted support with a few questions and they have live chat which was responsive and very helpful. Overall, very satisfied. Will update later with more.

Have not had to test it yet, but one of the few tech products that seems to be easy to setup and performs as expected. Really impressed with how quickly I was able to set up a whole house backup system for five devices. User interface is clear and intuitive. Had a question for customer support about swapping out a spare drive for offsite backup and had a great experience in a quick chat. Much happier with this purchase than with the laptop that started the project ...

I loved this TeraStation: excellent engineering, looks cool, small form factor. I configured it to work as I initially intended a NAS to work. It works as described and designed. I inadvertently set a couple options wrong and was unable to correct it. Contacted manufacturer, unable to fix but restoring to factory default, and allowed to return with RMA without any issues.

This was all I needed and more. I needed a network attached storage device to replace my old D-Link box. I like to use RAID1 to mirror my network backup information. This fills that bill, gave me extra storage space I needed, and so far, is more reliable than my old box (fingers crossed). It also came with NovaStor software that allows me to run regular full and incremental backups to the new device. This all I expected and more.

I read a lot of reviews on a lot of NAS products before settling on the 4TB model. Been using it for a few weeks and the family loves it. We have the iPhones downloading to it automatically and the web app makes browsing the files simple. Our kids are looking at family pics they've never seen before because they were just stored on a USB drive no one looked at. Concerned about the drives being subpar but so far so good.
