Well-Built Bracket, Responsive Manufacturer

This is a well-built, heavy-duty product with a clean look. Assembly was simple, and once in place it made installation of the AC itself surprisingly quick and easy. For once, no shims or screws were necessary. In my experience maintaining a rental property, window AC setups are typically improvised affairs. I've never installed or adjusted an AC without a good bit of shimming and foam-stuffing. Especially in older homes, window ACs are just an inherently kludgey solution—and the Top Shelf bracket won't change that fundamental fact. In my case, the bracket didn't alleviate the need for plugging some air gaps, nor did I really expect it to. Its main benefit is post-installation peace of mind: I'm not worried about the AC shifting or, worse, a tenant accidentally opening a sash and the whole thing tipping out the window. The bracket is solid, and I'm confident the AC isn't going anywhere. But given all the variables—e.g., window casing, wall thickness, siding type—I'd recommend reading the manufacturer notes and customer reviews carefully before buying. Or, better yet, contacting the company. As other reviewers have noted, the owner is exceptionally responsive. Before purchasing, I emailed him a query with photos of my window, and he replied in less than a half hour, with attached illustrations addressing my questions.

Love the no-drill installation!

This shelf has been fantastic. I was not sure if I wanted to buy it due to the price, but it was worth every penny. It was easy to install and did a great job. I got a huge window AC to cool down my living room, dining room, and kitchen so the AC unit was about 90lbs and I didn't want to ruin my windows by not using a brace. This shelf was easy to put together and fit into the window and gave my AC unit the extra support it needed.

If you have the right type of windows, this is a Godsend.

Exactly what we needed. Our AC was too complicated to use the manufacturers instructions to install in the window. We had to take it out of the casing, screw the casing into the window, attach the brackets to the casing, slide the unit back into the casing, put it all back together, put the rim brackets on, it was a pain. I thought "someone else has had to have this problem," and "there has to be a solution out there already," did some research and came across this product. One caveat. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR EMAILS. The manufacturer will be contacting you to confirm the type and size of windows you have. I'd recommend putting that information in the product description. After three cancellations and a poor review from me, I ran across the buried emails in my inbox. After we connected Ernie was great, and even sent this out overnight for the regular shipping charge because of the misunderstanding. At first I was miffed, because I'd already read the requirements and had already measured the windows and such, but on second thought was pleased they'd go to so much trouble to ensure you have the correct type of windows. A lot of people don't read the details. NOW FOR THE PRODUCT ITSELF: This product is VERY STURDY & WELL MADE. EXTREMELY EASY TO PUT TOGETHER. SIMPLE TO ADJUST. Two arms rest against the inside of the window frame, the two "legs" rest against the outside wall and the weight of the unit holds everything sturdily in place. Is absolutely ideal if you have an upstairs window in a rental apartment and can't mar the window with screws and such. For our house, it's on the first floor, which I'd be hesitant to do if the unit wasn't so heavy. All in all, a WELL THOUGHT OUT PRODUCT. I RECOMMEND IT WHOLEHEARTEDLY - if you have the correct type and size of window.

Very easy install, but a couple thoughts

First, this went together very, very easily. I had it assembled, adjusted, and in the window in a few minutes. Sliding the A/C unit in place was very easy. But a couple thoughts on making it a bit better 1) The alternating pins are very clever, but need to be called out in the instructions. I thought something was wrong for a moment, until I realized how it was "walking" into place, moving one detent at a time. 2) it's not clear in the instructions how the wings that hold the inside of the window frame are supposed to fit up against the window frame and trim. I ended up extending the wings as far as I could within the window (based on the flat portion on the bottom), and let the tabs reach as far as they could. 3) I padded the support against the window with some foam, and put some of the foam that came with my A/C unit (meant to be applied to the window sill) to the shelf in a few contact points to reduce the amount of metal-to-metal contact and vibration (it's noticeably quieter, now).

Does the job

I live in an apartment with only horizontal-sliding windows; this bracket was approved by the landlord to minimize damage to the siding and was the only way they would approve a through-the-window air conditioner (so much more effective and cheaper to operate than a portable air conditioner). Installed easily and used it all of summer 2018; came out just as easily so we could store the air conditioner and close the window for winter. Strongly recommend!

Beats the balancing act of trying to get a unit in a window

Every AC unit that says it's an "easy install" for windows lies (at least based on how my windows are set up) and although the price is steep, it makes installation a breeze for all unit sizes (works so well I bought 2). If you have difficulty getting your unit in the window every summer this is worth relieving the stress of that process. in terms of durability time will tell. given the perceived strength of the components i'm surprised it doesn't have a longer warranty which is a little frustrating but otherwise i'm satisfied.

It looks really good and a million times better than what I had ...

Even though they clearly state it's not for side sliding windows, I ordered it anyway. It does work for them, I had to put two small 2x4 blocks between the feet and outside wall! I also cut a piece of clear lexan to close the top of the AC to window top. It looks really good and a million times better than what I had before! The bracket itself required no tools, it sat right down in the window channel like a cradle. Light wheight yet heavy duty precision construction with a powder coat finish! I highly recommend this product!

Peace of Mind.

The second best investment I've made other than Amazon Prime. I really love how easy this bracket was to install. I'm someone who isn't much of a handy person, but I can be if I need to. This was the perfect solution for me, as I live in a second floor of a house and didn't want to go drilling holes into my landlord's home. Not that he wouldn't let me, but it feels wrong somehow. The A/C unit I have came with small brackets that you have to drill into the window sill, but I didn't even need those with this bracket. I just placed the A/C unit on top, insulated any holes and poof. Done! Simple. Just make sure you adjust it in order to make it fit snugly against the wall. It should hold most A/C normal Units.

Simply Top Shelf!

I don't typically write reviews but I had to this time. I dred summer. Actually, I dred air conditioning install time. I have rigged up different contraptions over the years to act as makeshift platforms for my various air conditioners. We recently put in new windows and the problem on only got worse. Nothing to screw into and sudden doom awaiting me if I damaged the windows in any way. Until this year. This adjustable platform from TopShelf is...well...top shelf! Even how it was packaged in the box was professional and all about ease. Some assembly is required so put aside some time...such as a 2-3 minutes. Really. It was ready to put in my window in about 3 minutes after opening the box. I bought a couple for my various ACs. I spent maybe 5 minutes adjusting the first one to fit my window perfectly. After that, I immediately set all the others to the same pin locations when taking them out of the box. The ACs went in like a dream. I have so much extra time I decided to write this review. These are well worth the money. No tools needed. No dread of damaging the windows. Totally awesome!

returned but appeared to be a great unit

I was very impressed with the apparent quality and workmanship of this unit (very versatile for just about any size and application) so I was very disappointed when my contractor tried to install it but said it would not work with my new Frigidaire window a/c unit. I'm not a contractor so I can't say for sure why not, but I believe it had to do with the way the base of the a/c was made. They spent a lot of time trying to get it to work, but could not. Amazon return was smooth and painless - but I wish it would have worked. My a/c was installed in a window right over the street and if for no other reason but for 'visual assurance' I wanted a beefy looking shelf unit to support it, and I am sure this would have been perfect -- even though Frigidaire said the a/c did not need any additional support. My 18,000 btu unit was very heavy and the contractor ended up fabricating his own supports for my peace of mind :-). I wish I could give further detailed information as to why it would not work with my a/c (it fit into the window perfectly) to help those reading this review decide whether to purchase - but I'm not exactly sure what the contractors were up against but I do know they tried very hard to get it to work.
