Don't get on a plane without them
All my life I've used the cheap earbuds airlines give you to watch movies in-flight or, slightly better, the Apple buds that come with your phone. Oh, dear reader, if you have been using similar means for your sky high entertainment audio, please don't hesitate to upgrade to Audio-Technica. Life is too short. Pull the trigger. The cost is worth it. These are not noise-canceling, but since the headphones are over the ear, they do block out quite a bit of screaming babies and the like. This purchase will feel like you upgraded your coach seat to first class, at least in terms of sound. The overall experience to your flight quality of life is like nestling into your own audio cocoon. I wear these on 10 hour trips to London and I occasionally remove them to let my ears breathe briefly, but, otherwise, they don't turn into a sweat box and remain comfortable. One tip for airline use: some seats have an audio jack in the arm rest next to your leg, so your audio cable sticks into your leg (depending on the height of your legs); consider buying an inexpensive 90 degree audio adapter (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01NBJW3T5/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_10) just in case you find yourself in this circumstance. There's plenty of room in the headphone case to store the adapter. Additionally: I struggled to decide between which model of Audio-Technica to purchase: I would strongly recommend a version that rotates to lay flat on the top of your chest. It's totally worth the extra cost. If you take good care of these headphones, my impression of the build quality is they will last for years, so the extra expense up front for the lay flat feature is well worth it. Lastly, I recently discovered the magnitude of joy and comfort a seat pad gives you on long flights and highly recommend you get some sort of pad like this one, but just note that the increased height of this pad puts your leg closer to the audio jack output if it's in the arm rest; hence the need for the 90 degree audio adapter: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01EBDV9BU/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_87

An Unbeatable value
I had the M40x before these, and I loved them. The day the ear cup snapped off was a tragic one. They lasted over a year of consistent daily use. They were great headphones that had an amazing sound quality for the price. These are similar in that regard. They are more expensive, but if you use headphones as much as I do, the extra cost is worth it. They are more comfortable than the m40x, and have better quality sound. I also like how they come with a short cable in the box, unlike the m40x. The sound quality is not that much better, but you can notice a difference. These headphones have better bass than the m40x. Instruments are a bit more defined and clear. These headphones can make your ears a little sweaty after a while, but that is to be expected from over ear headphones. If you don’t use headphones that much and the price increase is that big of a deal to you, the M40x is still a fantastic buy.

Best headphones I've ever used
I spent a long time researching a set of good, high end headphones. After reading and watching multiple reviews, I decided to go with the M50x. Man, had I been missing out. The immersion and clarity you get with these headphones is unbelievable. Well worth the price. The case that comes with it could probably survive an air strike, although it is really bulky and a little oversized for the M50xs. The M50xs fold in on themselves and become really compact, so a case half this size would suffice. Still, it's hard to complain when it's rolled into the price for this cheap (especially since I got it on a lightning deal). Finally, these headphones come with 3 different detachable, locking cords. This is the main difference between the M50x and the old M50, and in my opinion is worth the extra few bucks. I keep the shorter one in the carrying case for work/school, and the longer coiled one just stays plugged into my PC at home. The third one is a nice back up.

Exactly what I need for office listening.
These headphones are wonderful and deservedly popular. Bass is punchy but not boomy on funky, rock and louder classical music. Highs are nicely defined and crisp. And they are comfortable to wear for hours at a time, which was a key selling point for me, since I use them in an office environment. They are not noise-cancelling cans, but designed as full-range studio monitors. For casual listening they are clear and the sound is spacious without that annoying "floaty" effect I have noticed in some other brands, such as Bose. They isolate the sound to the user very well, provided you don't listen at absurd volume levels. You don't need to do so to hear the details in your music. I like that they come with three different cords -- two long ones and a shorter one -- and an adapter for 1/4" headphone jacks. That is helpful if you will use them for both long-range listening and when connected to an iPod or phone. My only design quibble is that the detachable connector at the left headphone extends down a good inch and a half from the bottom of the left cup and will occasionally catch on my shirt collar if I am leaning back but holding my head straight up and down. Minor thing, and I guess you could say they encourage good posture! UPDATE 3/17/16 These headphones are earning raves from professional reviewers and I'm really enjoying the details I pick up in my music. They are so clear, balanced and comfortable. A month later, I'm even happier with them than when I first slipped them on. Good headphones are a new window into the music you thought you already knew.

Great Headphones Yes ... Not So Great Case
ABOUT THE FREE CASE The zipper pull tab on the case broke off when I tried to open the case then the same thing happened to the other pull tab and now 1 of the zippers actually came off . ABOUT THE HEADPHONES - The Pros - I Got these to upgrade from my monster n tunes that I've always thought sounded great until going back to them after listening to my new m50x phones . Even Netflix sounds so much better with the m50x . The Netflix experience has been made new since I got these ath m50x phones . I Was going to go with the new beats pro phones but after researching audio technica ath m50x I realized I'd be probably be happier with the m50x and I have been . The bass is tight and you can really feel it but it doesn't steal the show from the mids & highs which sound awesome as well . My research results on sound difference between the m50 and the m50x said the bass of the m50x has been increased by about 3db while the treble is now not as Brite as it was with the old m50 . I went with the m50x for the detachable cable which I think is awesome . FLAC lossless audio sounds awesome with these but MP3s at least mine sound fine as well . Movies also sound really nice with these . When worn around the neck inbetween listening sessions you can have earcups together or laid flat facing down or flat facing up so u can still hear the audio . They also fold up really small for portability . ABOUT THE HEADPHONES - The Cons - This may be user specific to me only but sometimes these hurt my ears . Its not unbearable and a slight adjustment periodically helps but I did not think there'd be any discomfort . As far as comfort goes the new BEATS PRO HEADPHONES are far more comfortable . These are also bulky and while the BEATS PRO is a full size headphone the PROS still look more streamlined during where than the M50Xs do . MY FINAL THOUGHTS So with all that said I still highly recommend the ATH M50X HEADPHONES . Excellent sound quality in all areas of music and movies and less than half of what the Beats Pros cost . Thank you for taking the time to read my review and I hope you found it helpful .

Best deal on high quality headphones!
My son is mesmerized with these and cannot believe their quality for music listening. Very well made and comfortable with all the handy cord combinations you could want to connect to a variety of music sources. Handy and well protective case for taking them with you is included. Check the specs on these headphones and you'll see that that they are highly recommended across the internet and are considered a very best buy for very high fidelity at a reasonable cost. The construction of these makes it obvious that they will be a long-lived addition to anyone's music system. As with any speaker, they get better the more they are used and the speaker diaphragms get broken in. Not to indicate that they are not great right out of the box, but they will get better and better through use. Not at all heavy on bass or treble end, they give accurate sound reproduction, which is what you want. Get a pair while they are at a great price!

The best bang for the buck you will ever spend on studio monitor headphones
I had the ATH-M50's for awhile and they have been phenomenal. They still where working fine just looking a bit haggered after years of use. I did a lot of research when I bought the M50's and they proved to be the best studio monitors I ever owned, outperforming some way more expensive ones I have had. After using them day in and out for years the ear cushions where a but flattened and the drivers where pressing right against my ears. Never the less, they are still working and still sound great. That cannot be said about any other pair of headphones I have owned with so much use. Naturally with so much success on the m50's I pulled the trigger on the m50x's. My first impressions before even putting them on were I loved the now detachable headphone cable, and the cable options they include. The build quality on the old ones were good but these feel even more solid and I thought that would be hard to top but they did it. The Headphone cups are even more comfortable. As for sound, they can now take some more power from the headphone amp. The lows are well slightly but noticeably lower. Mids are a bit more balanced so sound separation is a bit more noticeable and the highs are very noticeably brighter to the point I lowered my high frequencies. Audio-Technica you made a superb product even that much better. I also like that this bundle included a hard case which is handy for travel.

Cheaper and better than beats by Dre
The Audio-Technica M50x has a cult following at this point and is without a doubt my go to headphones for under $200. The M50x's are the successor to the popular M50's and are worth the upgrade. One of the pleasant new changes to the M50X is the removable cord which means if your cord breaks you can swap it out with ease. Inside the box you get 3 cables, one coiled, one long and straight and one short cable. All the cables allow you to add the included quarter inch headphone adapter should you need it. These headphones fold up for easy storage and were not to heavy for me at all. The sound profile is the same as the M50's so nothing new there but they are still fantastic for Critical listening or just enjoying music on your phone. The M50X has a little bit more bass than it's cheaper little brother the M40X's and personally I think that's great. These headphones are better and cheaper than Beats by Dre. If you couldn't tell I love the M50X's but if i had to find something wrong with them then it would probably be the ear pads. The leather made my ears sweat after extended use but after buying some velour ear pads this became a seat of heavenly headphones.

Very clear, well balanced audio and good build quality.
I bought these headphones primarily for gaming to use with my PS4 in combination with an FX Audio amplifier. They deliver well balanced, super clear audio and are quite loud when used with the amp. What is most impressive is the clarity of the base notes. The base, while not super strong (i.e. beats or other bass head headphones) is never muddy even at high volume and will not leave you unsatisfied. In comparison to beats (other pair of headphones I have), the sound signature is more neutral with much clearer and well balanced audio. The sound bleed isn’t that bad either unless you have the volume near full blast. The only time these headphones sound bad is when you are listening to a poor quality audio file. The only draw back to having super clear headphones like this is that anything but the highest quality audio files will drive you mad. Not only do they work great for music but they can also hold their own when it comes to gaming. While they do not offer multiple drivers like high-end gaming headsets do, they still offer impressively immersive surround with the ability to pinpoint the direction of noises in-game. I have been pretty hard pressed to notice that much of a difference in gaming quality between these and my Turtle Neach PX5s which are top of the line gaming headphones. The PX5s may have a bit of an edge in some respects (as they should considering they are 2x as much!) but I haven’t felt like these are a downgrade when it comes to gaming. These are also supremely comfortable headphones and can be worn for a very long time. Out of the box, they might be a bit snug but they “break in” in about a week or so of daily wear. The only thing I noticed was that the tips of my ears got a little sore after the four or five hour mark but that began to become less common after about a month. Build quality is pretty solid as well. The included Slappa case is a must have in my opinion as it enables you to safely store the headphones without having to fold them (the less you have to fold headphones the better in regards to longevity) and has a very soft, almost fur-like interior. Just short of a $300 pair of Bose, these are some of the clearest headphones out there and will not disappoint.

ATH-M50x Summary
Great monitoring, gaming, everyday listening headphones. Extremely portable, very eye-glass friendly, and very practical coming straight out of the box with three different length cords. I use these headphones at least once everyday while either gaming, listening to music, or mixing. While most other headphones begin to press on the arms of my glasses after long periods of use the ATH-M50x are perfect for long term use and everyday use. These are a great pair of headphones and I hope to use them as long as they last. These headphones replaced my Blue Mo-Fi headphones because of the Mo-Fi’s tight grip on my head and after long term use begin to press the arms of my glasses into my head causing pain and at times a slight migraine.
