Stout. Impressed with this unit
Normally black and decker isn't high on my tool wishlist if even at all. I have tools from brands that carry a higher premium and respect. That said, this little sander delivered. It has a good weight to it and the push down to turn on feature was surprisingly useful. The clamps for attaching paper are very easy to operate and that's the main reason I replaced another brands sander with this one. Only thing that would have made this nicer would have been a case but at this price point that's a luxury. August 2018 - I have not broken this yet. It is also my wife’s go to sander out of all my sanders. The pad is showing some abuse but the housing is still looking good.

I recently sanded down my daughter's bunk bed so I could repaint it turquoise. I can't imagine what I would've done without this. It saved me hours, if not days.

Non-electrical sanding is stupid now
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I CAN FIX EVERYTHING *Blacks out and DIY's my whole entire house* I spent 2 hours hand-sanding paint/spackle off my door for sanding, with no research or prep, and got 1/3 of it completed. Afterwards, all the shoes (ALL THE SHOES), bikes, wall moldings, plants, etc in my hallway - and the floor above mine -- were covered in sawdust. In a fit of frustration, I bought a power sander because I saw "Vacuum." It came in the mail super quickly, and I ignored it for a few days because I was so disheartened. But I finally did it -- and in 30 mins the DOOR WAS FINISHED. I lay down tarp to be safe and there was barely any need because the vaccuum sucked up most of the dust. Some still got around and lingered in the air, but not nearly as much as before. Electric vacuum sanders are magic. They make you feel powerful. I can do anything by myself. I highly recommend; don't sand anything with your bare hands again.

Great!
I bought 2 of these hand sanders to help refinish outdoor furniture at the nursing home where my Mother lives. I'd never used a hand sander before, and found this tool simple and easy to use. It's light weight and easily fit my relatively small hand. I particularly like that it uses quarter pieces of standard sand paper sheets and changing paper is an easy task. It did a great job smoothing the wood and removing remnants of old stain and sealer. It is not designed for small, detailed areas, but worked well on tables and chairs and allowed me sand all but the most detailed area between chair slats.

It's a sander, Baby!
I finally used the sander 2 mos after buying it on Amazon (I figured that was long enough to prove my independence). I was sanding part of the plaster ceiling and upper wall (also plaster) which I had patched liberally sometime even before I bought the sander. One of the reasons I put off doing this for so long is that I was concerned that the plaster dust would migrate throughout the house and possibly make our dogs sick as they licked it off their paws. And maybe the rest of us, too, although we rarely lick our dog's paws. The sander is light enough to hold out at arms length and still control the sander's activities. I sanded about 4-5 hours with a lot of on-and-off as I changed hands, moved the ladder, etc. The sander was able to reach into the corner between the wall and ceiling easily. Although I'm not finishing fine furniture, the sander did a fine job of, um, sanding. It also did a surprisingly good job of dust control, surprising because I didn't really expect much, I wasn't smothered, and there was plaster dust in the little bag. Things I like about the sander: (1) lock/unlock switch- provided peace of mind while clambering around the ladder with sander in hand. (2) light weight (3) low noise - didn't find it very noisy, as others have said. (4) it sands. I didn't notice any bad characteristics.

Black & Decker 1/4 sheet orbital sander
I went to work with this little sander the day it arrived. OH MY Golly!!!! It works like a dream and so easy for me to opperate. My wrists are not that strong so it being light weight is a plus. It made my touch up work on construction project go like a breeze ( and for the most part I do not like to sand for too hard and sores my hands) This little sander so impressed me I told a friend about it. They were getting ready to repaint living room & hall way with lots of touch up work to be done. Sanding too! They called me thanking me for the lead! They do not know what they would have done with out this little charm! Thank You Black & Decker. My Mom always bought this brand. Now I will too!

Excellent sander for the price
I'll admit, I'm a beginner with power tools. I bought this to hasten paint removal of a nightstand. This little thing is pretty nifty. I was surprised to learn that it had a bag that gathered most of the sawdust, instead of spewing it everywhere. Attaching the sanding paper doesn't take long, and removing the old piece is a snap. I like that it has a lock to keep it from accidentally going off (like when I sat on it by mistake).

the ability to punch holes (easily!) into the paper is brilliant. I forgot to punch holes in the first piece that I used, and realized after starting that I was making a lot of dust on the cedar board - after punching the holes with the "hole-puncher-plate thing" ( it's easy and take literally 3 seconds and they're all done at one time) - there was almost no dust that wasn't collected in the bag. I was really surprised at how little dust there was. It made a BIG difference.

Best Sander Ever Used
I have been using Makita palm sanders since I started working on boats over 30 years ago. I lost the dust bag when it shot off the sander, which happens occasionally. Since I work in Marinas in California I need to have a dust bag or risk the loss of my vendor status. I read reviews of the new Makitas and was not impressed. I searched a bunch of the high-end sanders and found nothing rated very high. I saw the Black and Decker in the Suggested section and thought, "why not look?" I liked the look of the B&D and the dust bag had a mechanism that locked on, rather that just push on. The price was low so I figured I wouldn't by out much if it didn't last. When it arrived and I first turned it on, I loved that there was an on/off switch but it didn't actually turn the sander on. It only comes on when the ON switch is turned and I press down on a pad at the top of the sander. It's genius! When I stop pressing down, the sander turns off. It makes so much more sense that my old sanders. I like that there is a "punch tray" to make the holes in the sandpaper to allow the sand to enter into the bag. I used to use a Phillips head screwdriver to make the holes. I have only been using this little guy for a few weeks so I can't judge the durability, but so far, I love it!

Great little sander, perfect for small projects or edging.
Exactly what I needed for the project, durable edges well, fits in most spaces. Trudged along quite happily during our whole floor refinishing project and is still around to help me work on some shelving and a chest, unlike the detail sanders, which we bought three of and each died :/ So very happy with this guy. He'll be a standard around the house for a while. Nice that it also came with a punch for sandpaper so you didn't have to buy anything special.
