I have a 3L version of this pressure cooker, but the instructions said not to cook mung dahl in it, which made me worry a bit about other foods which could froth. I also found it just a tad small for making spaghetti sauce in the usual quantity. So I finally broke down and got the 3.5L size as well. I find it easier to use, and to clean, and we're contemplating just finding a new home for the other, or relegating it to our camp cooking kit. This seems to be the perfect size for our needs, as a family of two, since we like having planned leftovers.

I have been using this pressure cooker for a month now. It is the best Choice for my every day needs! Very well built, feels a bit heavy to lift but it is 5 litres capacity which is not unexpected. Great for use on all gas cooktops like electric and induction. Love the hawkins brand. I have always preferred this brand over other brands.

This product is fine, it leaks sometimes and in two months, the safety valve broke down, When i look for a safety valve for this product, each one costs about $5.30. I am just wondering what if it breaks again in one or two months, i would have to spend $5 again. It seems like in four months of time, i would have to spend atleast $10 for the cooker to work. and the cooker itself costs about $30.

Westerners used to Western style pressure cookers will have to practice latching the lid, which fits to the UNDERSIDE of the pot rim, not atop it. And the "whistles" (or steam flushes) are disconcerting but one gets accustomed to that. I love this. It was bought for camping/hurricane gear, but with only 2 of us in the household now, I can see myself using this a LOT! Dried pigeon peas- 4 minutes till done! (Reminder- froth can plug your vents- always use a pat of butter or a little oil when cooking dried pulse.) Having produced charcoal in my Presto cooker more than once- I really, REALLY appreciate the safety plug- which melts prior to reaching explosion -worthy temperatures and releases pressure, thereby almost totally negating the risk of an explosion. Just in case, I did buy a spare safety plug 11/29/2016 I decided to keep the pressure cooker as reviewed above in the house and buy a separate 1.5 liter one for camping. Really glad I did that!

This is the my favorite brand of pressure cookers. I prefer the Hawkins close-from-inside design over the close-over-top of other models. If you have never used it watch a video to understand the difference. It makes for a safer and more durable pressure cooker and an easier to clean lid and sleeker profile. The anodized coating makes it doubly good. It's superior to stainless steel and plain aluminum both and id your cooking involves more than boiling, if it involves sauteing, or stir frying then this is the best way to go. Pressure cooking is not plug and play. You have to familiarize yourself with cooking times and what pressure and steam does to your food. Trying a few basic recipes from the enclosed cookbook can get you started. Once you get the hang of it, cooking is fast and easy and healthier and tastier. This particular shape (yes it matters) is best suited to making stews and curries and chilli. Any dish that is rich in flavor and mostly liquid. There are electric pressure cookers on the market now but cooking on gas flame is still the best :)

Been using it to make soups curries. Love the design. Got this about 2months back & no complains so far. Its a popular brand so the parts should be easy to order & replace if they ever go bad.

I bought the 6.5 et 3.5 pressure cookers. Since both have the same size of lid you can exchange them, and do not have to pay attention for doing anything wrong. I absolutely love these pressure cookers and use them nearly daily on my gas stove. Read the manual and practice a bit, and you will never be scared again of blowing up your kitchen. Cleaning up afterwards is easy too.

This little pressure cooker is great for perfect rice and does fine with steel cut oats, those little potatoes, and small batches of dried beans even - if you compare to the price of one of those rice cookers, it's a steal, and frankly, those electronically controlled ones are overly complicated and expensive - and are huge pain to store too. As others have rightfully mentioned, you do have to pay attention to keeping the seal clean, and that you latch the lid with the seal seats evenly all around the top or there's a slight leak preventing it from coming up to pressure. It's amazing how fast, easy, and great rice comes out too...

There have been some reviewers who have complained because this pressure cooker is different from all of the others on the market in the way it opens and closes. While I agree that that does take some getting used to, it doesn't require a brain surgeon's intellect. I think it's ingenious. The pressure inside helps to create a pressure seal, and the construction is superb. If I were hypercritical, and I often am, I'd complain that the safety valve under the handle makes cleaning the lid a little more onerous, but it's also a safety factor since were the valve to fail, the handle would act as a shield, and the shape of the pot, with the curved top, makes cleaning it a little more difficult, but once again I must say that these are really trivial complaints. I own a large Fissler pressure cooker which Consumers Reports recommends as the best they've tested, and it is excellent, but I wanted a small one for small quantities of stuff, like stone ground oats for my morning breakfast, which take forever to cook even after soaking overnight. I can easily cook them in 20 minutes using this cooker. It really is, in my opinion, a well made and excellent choice.

Not sure why there aren't better reviews for this item. I've only been using it for a short time but I've found it works fabulously. It's the perfect size for 1 to 3 people. Very convenient and easy to clean. The locking mechanism gets some taking use to but it seals great, and once you've figured out how to close it, using it is a breeze. Just don't lose the rubber ring/grommet that seals the top when cleaning. Seems like it will last a long time, as well.
