I own the $250 Thule rack, similar to this one. We needed a 2nd rack so I took a chance on this after reading reviews. The Thule is better made, but the extra beef isn't really necessary. Sometimes overbuilt really isn't necessary. This rack is lighter and folds flat for storage, both advantages. There is one issue with this rack noted on a number of reviews. The pin for the hitch that comes with this is about 9/16" and a standard 5/8" hitch pin won't work. For $10 you can get this Harbor Freight Step Drill bit set Item#60379. In about 3-minutes drill out the hole in this rack to 5/8" and any standard hitch pin will work.....that is what I did. And you have a set of step drills for all sorts of projects around the house, especially if you have to drill sheet metal duct, electrical, plastic whatever. Another issue with this bike rack is it's a little sloppy in the receiver but a couple of wraps of electrical tape solved that one. Issue #3, have 4-3/8" flat washers to put under the bolt heads and nuts to avoid scarring the powder coat during assembly. No washers included. The one feature that exists on both the Thule and this rack is the hinge pin near the bottom that lets you rotate your bikes away from the vehicle to open a hatch door. While it takes two people to rotate the bikes back up and put the pin back in, this is a valuable feature. In summary, a great value for the money.

I have to say, I really like this bicycle rack. I am impressed on how easy it is to attach and remove this from my hitch receiver. We do not travel with our bicycles every day so I did not want to leave a rack on my SUV for our occasional use. It is easy to use the key and the quick-tightening handle along withe the quick-release button on the hitch, rather than have to deal with a bolt or locking bolt. The controls that allow you to fold down and to pivot the whole rack down are easier than having to deal with a pin and clip style setup. I like that the points that hold your bike move around to allow you to attach both vertically and horizontally... this works great with our children's bicycles that I cannot attach across the horizontal support. I recommend this product

According to Amazon, we purchased this Allen bike rack nearly 3 years ago (July 16, 2015) and I thought I should finally write a review for it. See my pictures to observe how well it's aging and handling the constant sun exposure and very frequent use. We leave the bike rack on year round and rarely ever take it off. You can see the red handle has finally succumb to the sun and a piece broke off recently, but otherwise it hasn't affected functionality one bit. We ride our bikes 1-3 times a week, weather permitting. The tilt function constantly gets used to access the hatch door of the SUV for loading groceries, gear, etc. We even use this bike rack during the snow season when combined with the Yakima ski/board rack (see pic). Everything is holding up quite well, all things considered! My thoughts on the bike rack design: I love the simplicity of this bike rack. I actually like that it doesn't have those seat-tube stabilizers as they always just got in the way when taking my bikes off and on with previous racks. If you want to keep your bikes from swing during the car's braking and acceleration, simply leave a bungee cord in the vehicle and use it to pin the bikes to the rack after strapping the bikes on. Easy. If there is any negatives, I would say the top swing arm (the U shaped arm that the bikes rest on) has a little play on the down position so you can hear it clanking around a bit when accelerating from a stop light. For the price, this is an easy 5 star rating from me. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

I really like this rack. I bought the 4 bike rack for two reasons it fits a 2" receiver hitch (more stable and less wobbling that the 1 1/2") and it cost $60 less that the two bike rack. I have traveled 500 miles with my bikes and no issues. Very stable and easy to get off and on. If I need to open my hatchback it lowers out of the way. Assemble was quick and easy if your follow the directions. I would recommend you purchase a 5/8" metal bit to drill out the rack to fit your hitch pin opening of 5/8". Order it from Amazon as it may be hard to find as most stores only stock up to 1/2". I also bought a locking pin so that a thief with a socket set could not steal it while I am riding. Would be a downer to return from a ride and find my rack stolen. The part of Ohio I live in has the largest paved bike paths in the US.

If you're trying to decide between this and more expensive brands, get this one. I sat and pondered reading reviews on several options available on here, and glad I went with this one, which, from my impression after reading reviews, is possibly better quality than the big name brands out there. Simple and smooth folding, and bike holders that feel and look sturdier than those found on other mounts. A good bike hauler doesn't need to cost $300, unless brand names plastered across your goods give you warm-fuzzies.

I’m glad I read reviews and researched this bike rack for weeks. I almost submissioned into buying the much more expensive racks for 4,5 and 6 times the cost due to name brand reputation and slightly fewer upgrades, if any. We wanted a rack for 4 bikes even though we only have two, just in case others wanted to join us or help someone. I did NOT experience the negative reviews previously mentioned by others as it has worked very well for us daily for more than a month now. The rack is VERY sturdy, easy to install onto hitch, and secure bike(s) for transport with no issues. If there was any honest suggestion(s) to provide in my biased opinion, I would recommend the rubber straps to secure the bike onto the rack instead of the nylon slip-through straps. This is only my preference due to ease and quickness of securing the bike.

We bought this hitch for our camper. It works great. We put four bikes on with no problem - one men's, one woman's, and two children's - one 18 inch with training wheels and one 20 inch.

The price is right & the bike rack is great. We used the 4 bike rack for our daughters bikes & drove over 1,000 miles. We attached the rack to our 2001 Chevy Suburban. 2 Bikes During our trip we only had the two bikes. We are not huge bikers, just a family with kids who want to ride their bikes, so we didn't want to spend too much money. This bike rack is perfect. We used the bolt & screw it came with and there was absolutely no wiggling or moving or noise as we drove 1,000+ miles. On the trip we were able to get a 24" beach cruiser & a smaller bike with training wheels on the rack easily. We had to adjust the straps to tie down the bike, but that wasn't too hard. We also used rope to secure the bikes, just in case. 4 Bikes On a different occasion and more than once, we were able to fit a 26" beach cruiser, 24" beach cruiser and two bikes with training wheels on the rack with no problem. We loaded them biggest to smallest. We did not purchase the cross bar. Instead we used put the rack between the bike frames so the bikes "sat" on the rack. On some bikes we had to turn the straps inward to "tetris" the bike on for a more secure fit. We also turned the last bike upside down so it could fit due to the training wheels. We turned each bike the opposite way when we put them on so that the pedals wouldn't hit each other. Putting 4 Bikes on this rack is totally doable without the cross bar AND with child bikes with training wheels. It is totally worth the money. The rack is easy to install. The arm folds down while still attached to truck when not in use. The rack does tilt down WITH ALL 4 bikes on it. We were able to life the Suburban door open completely with all 4 bikes on the rack. It is heavy though. My husband held the rack while I removed the pin then he slowly tilted the bikes down. Once we accessed the back, he lifted the bikes back up & I put the pin back in to secure it. It's pretty easy, just heavy with 4 bikes. I was able to do it myself with only 2 bikes. Overall this is a great bike rack and great price.

This rack fit the bill for all of our requirements perfectly! We were able to fit 4 bikes on easily with a man's bike, a woman's bike and two different children's bikes (note: no adaptor needed which was a bonus). After comparing this rack to the Thule and Yakima versions and scouring through both Amazon and Craigslist options, we ultimately came back to this rack. The positive reviews were great. Since we got it, we have been quite pleased with it. In fact, while on vacation, our extended family members were looking at ours and comparing it to their Thule/Bell racks. Even my in-law was surprised how sturdy ours was, well built, and remarked that it seemed quite comparable to his new Thule rack. The rack carried all of our bikes with no problems (going from NY to RI, then to MA especially through the mountains and then back home). We loved it and were able to leave the rack on the van (no bikes on it), and access the trunk with no problems. Only thing is that at one point during our vacation, my husband stretched one of the straps so much that it ripped. We were able to easily replace it at an affordable cost. Overall, we are quite pleased with our purchase.

☑️Quick Release: convenient, no tool needed to release the carrier. ☑️Locking: a little piece of mind knowing you can leave the rack attached and unattended ☑️Wobble Free: twist the knob to tighten the rack to the hitch ☑️Heavy Duty Construction: thick gauge steel and high strength bolts. ☑️Cradle and straps: hold bike securely ✅Recommendations: Buy the 4 bike rack as opposed to a two or three because you don’t have to use the hitch adapter. Also, you’ll have more room to space out the bikes if only carrying two bikes.
