Awesome Clipper - works just like it should
My pup is really comfortable with me cutting his nails, that being said, he has clear nails so it is easy for me to see his veins so i know where to stop. These clippers have a guard on them which only lets you cut a bit at a time - you can remove this guard if you know what you are doing and cut as long a chunk as you'd like. For me, dealing with a clear nail, i was able to remove the guard to its side so i could cut quicker and more efficiently and so my pup would get irritated with the whole situation. Other reviewers on here gave negative reviews because they didnt know what they were doing! Simply stated, if your dog doesnt have clear nails and its hard to see the blood veins, then start off by clipping really really small lengths at a time. You can ask any vet that. The clipper itself is made very very durable and the metal is strong and sturdy. Dont give bad ratings to a product because you dont know how to use it! It worked perfect for us!

Not as bad as I thought!
I mistakenly bought two different nail clippers while comparing different brands in my cart. I've come to the conclusion they're all the same thing so don't think too hard on it. I passed on a dremmel because I was afraid it might be too intense or ticklish for my dog. I don't think it's necessary anymore. I got my dog when he was about nine years old so he should be 11 by now. He is a black Labrador with thick black toenails. I recently noticed he was having trouble getting up on the hardwood floor. I must admit we sort of skipped the puppy part of the manual- the part that mentions that you're supposed to clip their nails every 1 to 2 weeks. So I laid him in the tub on the bath mat. I watched a couple more YouTube videos which really helped with my confidence. On the first naiI I decided the guard was useless and moved it up so I could see better. Taking off literally shavings at a time, I got past the crumbly part to a dark center. When I start to pinch and see the nail give a little I immediately let go and that's where I'd stop. Out of all ten toes I only got the very tip of a quick. No blood, but I could see a pin size spot of liquid. To finish I clipped off a little layer of the thick top side which rounds it out and supposedly helps the quick recede. To first timers from a first timer, the key is to just go little by little. It took me over half an hour. I had it easy though because my dog is old and just laid there the whole time. For as long as I've known him his nails hit the floor. Now he is so "stealthy" and I love the sound of his pads on the floor. He now has more traction to help him get up. I highly recommend this product! And here of course is an obligatory photo of the old man with his new pedi.. which he'd like me to stop touching now.

Best Dog Nail Clippers I've Ever Tried!
We bought these nail trimmers for my very nervous, split prone jack, Lilly. We have tried everything. We've tried dozens of nail clippers (these would split her nails and often would not cut all the way through the first time) , a dremel (very noisy and stressful for LilIy), more frequent walks on the pavement, and groomers (expensive and her nails would still get split). These are the only clippers that I have found that cuts through the nail without effort and does not split her nails. The nail guard is very convenient and I don't have to worry so much about cutting her quick. Her nails are very long now so I'm following the instructions and cutting just a little bit off each week to let the quick recede. I am very happy with this purchase. It has certainly made my life easier and Lilly doesn't seem to mind getting her nails clipped as much the process is now much smoother and painless.

First time clipper user.
I am a first time user. It took me a month to work up the courage to do it. These clippers worked beautifully. If you are a first timer like me, watch some You Tube videos it will help and you can feel confident you have good clippers with these. I was so relieved. My dog has those black nails that added to my fear. She was an angel for me. Her nails were so long. I took the tips off. They are still a little long, I am waiting a week or so then will take off a bit more.

Comfortable too hold and extremely sharp.
These are very well made and perform like they should.......but be careful! They are very sharp and the first time I tried them on my dog, I cut too much and hit the quick on one of his nails. That was a surprise as I assumed the guard would prevent cutting that close and it didn't. I will have to be more diligent next time. My poor little dog suffered for it and I felt terrible.

Perfection
We have 3 dogs, 2 of which are large breed and 1 is a 4month old (but he is already pushing 50lbs). I bought these clippers to get our puppy used to having his nails done and to also clip the other 2 dogs nails. 1 of them HATES even having her feet touched but she did very well when I used them on her! She's been clipped too short too many times (crappy groomer) and these worked great! I even clipped our older Pyrenees' nails, which never need to be cut as she is outside 24/7 and they cut through her tough nails so smoothly! When/if these clippers break or get dull, I am definitely buying another pair!

You don't have to be a pro
Easy to use. I used them on my pomeranian's claws. They're adjustable for bigger claws as well. I didnt care for the file but it does serve the purpose. Also the back guard on the clippers can slide side to side a wee bit but I didn't notice this till after I dropped it on the hardwood so I may have accidentally made that happen.

and most importantly I got to do her double dew claws which were so long because they don't get used like the other toes
I ordered these to attempt to do my dogs nails myself, after attempts done by 2 other places failed (one place had to muzzle her to get them done). I was very nervous since I've never clipped dog nails (only cats), and she has black nails so you can't see the quick. I used a lot of treats and she only squirmed once. I was able to do her nails, and most importantly I got to do her double dew claws which were so long because they don't get used like the other toes. I feel much better now and have more confidence that I can do them going forward. The safety is a LIFE SAVER for me, I wouldn't have been able to do her nails without that!

Don't put off this chore like I did
Don't put off this chore like I did. Long walks used to keep his nails under control but as he has gotten older and the weather has gotten hotter, I wasn't paying attention. I replaced the carpet in the living room with wooden floors and suddenly my golden became a doggie version of tap dancing Danny Kaye. I felt horrible but was afraid. It even took me a few days after I got these clippers to get over my fear of using them. They worked like a charm. The gap stop is so helpful and my guy did not complain even once Now we're shortening the nails over a few weeks time to give the quick time to recede each time. They are very sharp and easy to grip.

Clip with confidence
I have bought clippers in the past and have been mortified that I would cut into my dogs vein. These have a guard that only allows a small portion to be clipped. I looked at each nail, knew that the vein was way off and clipped with confidence. I think negative reviews have been doing it wrong see photo.
