Better than I expected for the price.
Just got these today. I have to say I'm VERY impressed. Yes, they are plastic. Yes, they are lightweight and feel like they cost just under $8. But here's the thing. I've been reading a lot of other reviews from people that purchased these prior to now and were unhappy with the blinking red LED. The company seems to read reviews... These have LEDs that are on dim during the darker hours. I have no idea whether or not batteries will last 9 months, but where I live (4,200' up in the Smoky Mountains) I figure I'll have a winter pair and summer pair for each camera. Ordered 4, and I think I need 5 total, so I'm probably going to order 6 very soon. 1 for now and 5 for backup. The sliding cover looks like it will protect the battery compartment from water intrusion, and the fit and finish look great. The way these things look and feel they look real from two feet away. Since they will be mounted 12-15' above ground, I have no issues. If they fall apart after 2 months, I'll redo this review. For now, I'm pretty happy.

The ring of steady red leds look just like my other real cameras where the ring of red ...
Bought this 4 months ago (august 2015), still using my original AA duracell batteries. A lot of confusion about the blinking red light - mine came with the ring of 30 red leds that run off of a photocell, so they are on steady (no blinking) dusk to dawn. The ring of steady red leds look just like my other real cameras where the ring of red leds emit infrared for night vision lighting. Although the real cameras are supposed to be emiting infrared, they leak enough red visible light to look just like this dummy camera. Side by side you can tell the difference, but without the side by side reference, this dummy camera looks real enough, especially at night. Mount the fake up high and you'd need binoculars to see the difference and at night there's just no way to tell. Seriously for the money you can't go wrong. Yes, the plastic is a bit frail but be careful mounting it and you're good to go. Just remember when mounting it, you'll need to replace the batteries at some point, so plan ahead. UPDATE: July 2016 The original duracell alkaline batteries installed 11 months ago are gradually running out. While still lit, the leds are getting dim but are still lit! So 1 year on a fresh set of alkalines is about all you're going to get. Certainly can't complain. I'm putting lithiums in next - should be good for years...

It can't hurt
I ordered one of these just to see what it looked like and I'm kinda impressed. While I'm no home security expert this unit looks realistic and to most crooks in our rural area it should be some what of a deterrent especially when used in conjunction with our motion detector lights around the perimeter of the house. I'm ordering 3 more. After reading some of the negative reviews, I don't know what some people expected for 8 bucks and I don't understand how you could break this thing during installation. It's pretty straight forward and you don't need a degree from MIT. If you can use a screwdriver and a cordless drill to pre drill the holes, then make your aiming adjustments, it's a piece of cake. (it takes all of about a few minutes) I did however use different screws and opened the mounting holes to accommodate a slightly larger screw. All in all for less than $35 (for 4) if it does ANY good it will be well worth what amounts to less than what the wife and I spend going to a movie. A fair price for a little piece of mind. (I have to admit though that the system is also to prevent the possibility of leaving a bad taste of a crook in the mouth of our 115 pound German Sheppard)

Very happy!!
I have this installed just under the garage header, pointing down the driveway. On either side I have motion-detector outdoor lights that go on whenever anyone approaches. As soon as they look up because of the lights they will see the camera in the middle. It looks so real!! Anyone with bad intentions coming up from the street will stop there, no one is going to come up to the camera and examine it to see if it's real or not. Based on the Q&A I specifically bought the one from UniquExceptional and it IS 30 LEDs. They only come on in the dark - at first I thought it was broken, but I stepped into a dark closet and sure enough, they came on.

Great investment
I have owned now for about 1 year and I can say that this has absolutely deterred people. We had a few bikes stolen and wanted something to deter people. I have not had to change battery in this year, still working perfect. Has held up out side in New Jersey weather and has not faded. This looks very real, with wire and all. I have witnessed someone start to walk up my driveway and see the camera. They turned right around. This has been a very smart investment and has held up very well. I did not want to screw into my siding so I stuck up with 3m tape. So far, it is holding and I can not be happier with the results.

Keep the bad guys wondering!
I have these mixed in with my Zmodo cameras mostly on the perimeter areas of my two acre wooded property. One is very obvious near the front steel gate. They have led's that light up at night giving off the very realistic glow of a night vision camera. Not the phony blinking red light most thieves would know are fake. Listen these guys hang around in jail waiting to get realesed, sharing their knowledged bases with each other just like we do here, helps them pass the time. From ten feet away you can't tell they are not real. I took the time and small expense to run a cable down to a junction box and conduit stubbed into the ground at my out buildings also for a little more realistic effect. The batteries have lasted up to two months and they've made it through a couple pretty rough Texas lightening storms! For our few dollars invested, it's just enough to get the thieves to move along to an easier target! Update. I put a new pair of AA AC Delco batteries purchased here on Amazon.com of course and installed them in March of 2016. I went out this morning September 11 2016 before sun up to throw a new set in thinking they would be dead and they were still going strong!!! Six months on one set of batteries. I should also mention that during the original install I put high quality gaffers tape over the battery cover to help with the waterproofing. Can't see any less than five stars here, especially for the money.

Phooey on 'FAKE'
I live on a farm, miles from the nearest town and neighbors. My place has been hit a couple of times, quick grab and go scoundrels and not much more. I purchased 6 of these to place around our property and I used lithium batteries, not the cheaper types that you might install in a flashlight. The lithium batteries power a small red LED light that blinks on and off and give the impression the cameras are "on" and "seeing" what might be in their view. The LEDs have been blinking reliably for a month straight and at night they look VERY real. I'm impressed with this device because they resemble true cameras that emit an invisible infrared light for night viewing. They have held up well in storms and are easy to adjust and rotate. If someone looks close at the front of the camera, it appears to have built in infrared illuminators. These are the new technology "lights" that provide an invisible light that the eye can not see, but a professional crook might understand and know is the same style of light used on expensive "game cameras" that hunters use to capture images of animals at night. I'm happy with my purchase and I feel these "fake" cameras do a good job to discourage thieves. (UPDATE... NOVEMBER 2013. These "cameras" are still working well and in the 2 years since I wrote this review, I have not had any crooks steal anything from me. Some points... * Lithium batteries. Sometimes they will run the camera for 3 weeks and sometimes they run 5 weeks. I surmise this might have something to do with cold or hot season. * Some discussions here stating "no wires" and my thoughts are "no big deal" because WiFi cameras look a lot like this and, cameras placed around by deer hunters have no wires, because the have SD cards that can record video. Bottom line... in two years, I have not had a failure in anyone of the 6 "cameras" I bought, and the little red blinking LED light is easy to see at night. They have been sitting outside, unprotected and have been rained on, snowed on, have stayed out in the Texas sun (it was 111 degrees here one summer) and they haven't missed a beat.

Good investment.
For the cheap price, this is a very good investment. If you mount them at a good location and angle, it is not easy to tell the different between this camera and a real one. The red LED lights can definitely make the bad guys hesitate. It's been a few weeks and the LED lights haven't shown any sign of being low in power. Definitely recommended as a cheap security investment.

Don't fool the cops but believable and amazing performance
I bought these to put on a school bus I have to deter vandals or thieves.. I really think over all it worked well. Once when the HOA reported my bus to try to have it towed the police came.. and they poked a little fun at the "Obviously fake security cameras". (By the way they didn't find any violations and told me to have a nice day) But over all people believed they were real cameras.. I even had a woman come up one day while I was there working in the Bus and ask me if I would check my footage to see if I captured the people who stole her car. Battery life is AMAZING. I put batteries in these in August of last year. and I haven't had to change them. I've moved since then to the country so am not so worried about having them.. Every time I go in the bus and notice them blinking I am amazed.. even through a very very cold winter.. they are still working.

VERY REALISTIC
First off, I am an electrician. I have installed hundreds of these types of cameras in the past. I can assure you that these cameras look EXACTLY like the REAL THING. It does come with a blinking red LED light. Personally, if you are concerned with this camera looking authentic, I would highly suggest that you DO NOT activate the red light. It has been a long time since camera's like this have utilized any type of flashing light. If you want to "announce" the presence of the cameras, then purchase the package of plastic signs to post around the camera's location. They are BIG, RED and WHITE with an image of a camera on them. Hard to miss. This camera looks very realistic even upon close inspection, mostly due to the "infrared" illuminators that are present in both this item and in the real thing. Just be sure to thread the wire THRU the mounting bracket, then push it back inside...so that it looks like the wire then goes "into" the wall. Just like the real thing!
