Is it nuts to LOVE a potato masher? I'm not kidding, this thing is a revelation! It works really REALLY well. I used to struggle (& curse) while using my old grocery aisle version. When I read the glowing reviews I tried this masher and what a huge difference. There's almost no effort required. I'm using it for all kinds of mashing...bananas for banana bread, parsnips, cauliflower...works like a charm. Love it!

I am s-mashing my way to happiness with Potato Masher. I have been frustrated with the standard masher that we have had for a couple years and finally decided to upgrade our kitchen utensils. This masher is larger than any other masher I have ever seen or used. The nice thing about it is that you don't have to get your arm in funny positions or angles and it uses your entire arm to get more force and a better consistency. In the picture that Amazon uses, you see that there are red dashes on the back of arm of the masher. That is actually for a scrapper that you can use to get the potato or beans or whatever else you are mashing off of the bowl. That was an ingenious idea so that scraping the bowl doesn't induce that wonderful metal on glass/ceramic/etc sound that grates every last nerve. The perforations in the masher allow for enough of the material to pass through while not being completely open. If you are frustrated with your current masher or looking for something new to try. USE THIS MASHER!

Don't write a lot of reviews and especially about kitchen tools but this is an exception. I have been making mashed potatoes for many many years. I have used other manual mashers and electric mixers. This Zyliss unit is--for me--the best of the best. I have a unit somewhat similar to the Zyliss but the Zyliss is superior--especially in how it handles in one's hand during actual use. Anyway, it is a great unit at a great price.

I can't believe the quality of this tool for the price! It has no grooves or seams to trap food so it is super easy to clean and very sanitary. One feature I missed in the description that is very useful is the integrated spatula on one side -- makes it easy to clean the sides of the bowl and direct contents back to the bottom as you go. I have rheumatoid arthritis in my hands and one of reasons I chose this particular masher was the handle. It has proven to be every bit as easy to hold on to as I had hoped. Just the right diameter and cushioned to improve grip and comfort.

I got this to replace out old potato masher which broke where the base plate meets the handle. This new masher looks like it can hold up forever, with thick, seamless steel from the handle through the base and back again. The handle is comfortable to hold, and the scraper on the side is a nice addition. The side scraper gets potato stuck under and around it, so it requires careful cleaning. Altogether, I am very pleased with this purchase.

Saw this product on America's Test Kitchen show and it got the best rating for making mashed potatoes manually. I tried it and could not be more pleased with the quality and design. Just make sure you don't use a coated pot because the metal will mark the coating. However, the mashed potatoes came out superb!!

Like a few others I’d wished it came with a black accent rather than the red, but after using it I have no regrets and would want it in my kitchen whatever the color! The vertical handle gave me pause because I thought a horizontal one would give me more leverage and I was delighted to find that the easy to grip, slightly slanted handle was more stable and required less muscle-it was so much easier for me to use than my wavy wire shaped masher. It was much more effective in that it required vastly fewer plunges through the food and no need to chase the food around a bunch before the job was done. The red part tidily scrapes down the pot/bowl sides and the entire tool rinses off easily without trapping food in a joint that’s sure to quickly rust. This masher is built to last, keep its shape and reward with a faster, easier mash and a fuss-free cleaning. No moving parts or swivels-just solid, streamlined, but well designed features make me very glad I chose this one. I made a bean with bacon soup and where I’d have pulled out and dirtied a blender or food processor to purée or chop the cooked carrot, celery, onion, and a few of the beans to thicken the soup, I instead used my masher and got a beautiful soup with beans, bacon, and pretty carrots dotted throughout. In about 45 seconds I got better texture and a clean tool with no machine to clean. Potatoes are next!

I use a pressure cooker a lot n mashed potatoes r one of the foods I make often in it. A reg electric mixer dsnt fit well into the pot of the pressure cooker. I purchased a very cheap masher that bends when I use it. SOOOOOO, I saw this masher while looking for one that’s more sturdy. Well, look no more!!!! I LOVE this masher!!!! It’s so STURDY, n it dsnt have weld spots to anchor handle. It is continuous metal all the way up to handle. The handle has a slight curve to it so it is VERY comfortable in ur hand. I dnt think I will ever need another masher!!! If u r looking for a hand masher, this will NOT disappoint!!!!!

I can speak only for myself, of course, but whenever I make egg salad or mashed potatoes with this masher, I congratulate myself all over again for having bought it. Very well-made, nicely balanced, rock-solid. The handle is even ergonomically angled slightly to make it comfortable, and there's a thick plastic strip on one side to help you scrape your egg salad (or mashed potatoes) back into the bowl. The holes seem to be the right size for anything. (You can't borrow mine -- sorry.)

#1 on ATK, and for good reason -- it's an excellent masher. Super sturdy and a contiguous piece of work prevents it from bending or coming apart, like my other mashers have. Plus, the handle is comfortable to grip, especially since the job requires some muscle.
