Great product if you don't expect too much from it
The Insteon hub works well once it's set up properly. It is true that you have to pair the hub to each of your devices, but you don't have to go back and forth between the hub and the device if you add them via the Insteon Android/iOS app. Management of the devices I already have is actually much easier using the hub rather than using the 'set' button on each device to set up scenes and responders. Amazon Echo was easy to set up to work with this hub and it's quite a bit more reliable than the Philips Hue bridge that my Echo is also connected to.

GREAT with Amazon Echo!
Updated an older hub to take advantage of Amazon Echo integration. Glad I did! It's a lot of fun to be able to have Alexa turn lights on and off (our house has an extensive Insteon installation) on command. And a lot more convenient when your hands are full. Highly recommended if you already have the necessary infrastructure for a smart home. The only issue I've found is that in rooms with a great many three-way circuits (our Rec Room has three), Alexa has trouble distinguishing which device to control. The hub could be better integrated if the Amazon Echo was also able to activate Insteon scenes, which can be scripted to control multiple devices.

Control everything with your iPhone and Alexa voice-control!
I love controlling all the Insteon devices from my iPhone and Amazon Alexa. The previous owner of the house installed all Insteon switches. It took me a couple hours to register about a hundred devices to the hub with my Iphone. Now I have timed lights and fountains coming on, christmas lights automatically turning on. I was in Spain the other day and could see the status of all the lights in the house in California!

This Thing is Great!!!
There seems to be a lot of bad press on this device. Here is my experience... First, some background. I have been using Insteon devices since their inception. I have probably spent $10,000 on the product with mixed results. I used these in 2 larger homes (2,500 and 4,500sf). I now live in a small apartment in a 100 year-old building. The wiring is new, but everything is in metal boxes and conduit) I had 3 leftover Insteon LED bulbs so I thought I would try this out. I also have a Nest thermostat (don't tell the landlord). I thought I would "risk" 65 bucks on this, since it was the least expensive solution out there - by far. 1) Initial setup was flawless. The app takes a photo of the hub's QR code and does the rest. You set up an account in about 2 minutes. 2) found the LED bulbs with no issues are all. Just remember to search, then turn the bulbs on so they can send their "Hey!" signal to the hub. 3) Insteon app is clean, simple and intuitive. I have seen some nasty programs - this is simple. 4) Works fantastically with the Nest - no problems here. 5) It hasn't missed a signal yet and I played with it for hours. 6) setting up on other iDevices is a simple as loading the app and signing on. period. Here's the one I don't understand. It had remote access right out of the box. No port forwarding, no DNS. It just worked. It will remote access the devices and check status via internet with no complicated setup. This has been the best Insteon product I have seen yet. This model is not compatible with Apple HomeKit (which I wanted). After setting it up, it seems like HomeKit is just an extra and unneeded step in the process, since Siri never understands me anyway. The other Insteon hub is HomeKit enabled but seems to have a lot less features. Make sure you pick the one that suits your application. Other people seem to have had difference experiences. This is mine. I think this would be great for a small implementation or for a first timer.

Great for simple home automation.
Works as advertised. Bought this after a lot of research. needed something to turn our roof shingle/gutter heating wire on and off remotely. Worked perfectly via wifi through the winter, whether or not we were home. Wifi set up was quick and easy. Phone app works great. Can't vouch for how wide the signal range is, how the scheduled programming works, or how it works with multiple items. But as a simple device for remote on and off, it does the job.

Alexa integration, Stringify integration
Works with insteon devices and Alexa will let you group with other vendors home automation products - excellent. Also set up complex scenes with Strigify. A word of caution though, if your hub goes bad, this will not drop in its place. You will have to setup all your devices again. Before ordering to replace a bad unit, contact smarthome/smartlabs, they may be able to save you headaches.

Insteon must be tired of online bad rap... Making good!!!
The recently did an update and unfortunately it turned my hub into a brick. However not only did they happily replace my unit but they even programmed it so I didn't have to go back through and find all the mac addresses on the switches, alarms, modules, and fan pieces. They will keep my business.

Insteon Hub gen 2
Works great. I've been adding devices to my system ever since. It helps to read up on how to install the Hub (on line).. NO surge suppressing power strips should be used to install/power the Hub. Plug the Hub directly into a wall socket (or by utilizing a single line non surge suppressing extension cord.) The Hub sends and receives signals through the home electrical system and needs a clean connection to your wiring. It also sends wireless signals, but it's best to have a good electrical connection to get the most out of the Hub. Intsteon support generally is very good. Patience is definitely a virtue. If you need help, call early if you can - 6 am Pacific Time. You will need to be at least a little tech friendly to work with this type of equipment. Instructions are generally not provided with the equipment and are available on line at the Insteon web site. I have my Amazon Alexa connected to the system and now most devices can be turned on and off by voice! (The garage door I/O Linc is not compatible with Alexa at this time.)

Works well! REST API is very cool!
So far so good. It certainly does what it says it will do. I have setup a number of devices with ease. The camera is very nice, one thing to note, it is only 2.4GHZ. I upgraded to 5GHZ and it took awhile to figure out the issue. Once setup, the clarity of picture is amazing. One thing to look out for, if you have a device (like garage door opener / plugin) that is not RF and only powerline, then adding an outlet or switch that is both can help with connectivity issues. In my case, the device was right next to the hub, but couldn't reach it because it was powerline only and was on an electrical sub panel. By adding a light switch in the garage everything worked perfectly. It really is true what the instructions say, the more devices you add, the better Insteon works as it will use both RF and powerline to make a mesh of a network across your home. I just started working with the REST API. The web site API instructions are very good. I didn't notice at first, but they actually show working code examples in 14 languages like PHP, VB, Ruby, Java, etc. I tried Javascript first (AJAX call from a page running on Apache), but the Insteon site rejected my connection (doesn't allow calls from another domain). I am now working with a node.js based approach and it works really well. One thing that was not intuitive for me, the Production site to connect to is https://connect.insteon.com/api/v2/. It is on the API site, but not the clearest.

I installed them yesterday and couldn't be happier. The installation
After the frustration of trying to get a WeMo light switch and wall plug to work and failing miserably, I returned the WeMo products to Amazon and purchased the Insteon hub, light switch and wall plug. I installed them yesterday and couldn't be happier. The installation, setup and configuration was straightforward and simple. No connectivity issues whatsoever. Linking them to my Amazon Echo was a walk in the park. Since the Insteon app knows where the hub is physically located in the world, it is able to recognize time zones, daylight savings time and the sunrise and sunset on a particular day. Consequently, setting up a scene that turns the lights on and off at sunset and sunrise was also very easy. In summary, the products work as advertised and I would definitely recommend them. One note of caution, if you want to link an Insteon hub to your Amazon Echo you must purchase this specific model of the hub as it is the only one currently supported by Amazon Echo.
